From series 44, ep. 1, a moment from 2012 when the show had to address an old transcript someone posted long ago about a fake Jimmy Savile confrontation that gained momentum again after his death. I edited in clips of the available BBC Radio 2 broadcast and actual clips from the Savile episode in question. Also involved was the Daily Mail's encouragement for underaged perversions. I think there should be an amnesty program. If you have a Jim'll Fix It badge, you turn it into the BBC and you get a Blue Peter badge in return.

I remember reading it several years before Savile died and, because I'm not a HIGNFY viewer and I had no idea whether there were available transcripts of material not broadcast, at first I didn't know if it were true. Being a non-Brit, Savile was not a part of my upbringing, but as an adult in the internet age and a reader of Irvine Welsh, I knew that there were rumours of Savile as necrophiliac. So once I read the transcript (in which Merton is portrayed essentially as a man possessed with hatred for Savile) I spent a few minutes searching and I found it was a fiction. A bit of wish listing perhaps. I had always been perplexed by Britain's affection for Savile, because he was ugly, arrogant and not very talented.

you are spot on. As an ex-pat Brit now living in Australia, I grew up in the Eighties watching Savile on Top Of The Pops and his own show 'Jim'll Fix It" (yuck!), but we (as in my family) were clueless - all I thought was he was a bit odd, a bit slimy - how could people stand being near those cigars (etc). I had no idea how deep the rabbit hole went, but you didn't 'consider' things like that back then - it was BBC "entertainment" (or whatever..). It makes your skin crawl looking back though, and knowing how dark and seedy that underbelly is...how many of them were out there, like that....truly terrifying. And yes - "ugly, arrogant and not very talented". And yet......'lauded' over by the general public and HUGELY famous. How?! How did he ever make it?!?! Exactly. But when you have 'connections', when you have the right ties........it makes me cringe and curl up inside; Savile got away with it. He died without having to face the wrath in this life we're experiencing right now - we can only hope he burned in some kind of Hell s-l-o-w-l-y for all the years of evildoing and misery he heaped on his victims.

As a pop manager said to a young pop group in an old kit kat chocolate advert, "You cant sing you cant play, you look awful...You will go a long way! You asked,"ugly, arrogant and not very talented". And yet......'lauded' over by the general public and HUGELY famous. How?! How did he ever make it?!?! That is the mystique that Saville used to attract attention plus the good charitable works that he did. If you take Halloween for example, people are gripped by its hidden abnormal intrigue and is passed off dangerously as borderline harmless fun. This is the same parallel that applied to Saville and his cohorts being both (dangerously) mysterious and yet entertaining but at hidden and higher level. To quote a bible verse, For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12 (KJV)

Yes there are bad things like what happened here. But we are growing as a specie. It's teething and it's difficult and it's painful, but we are heading towards better. The fact that we can even talk about this publicly is a huge departure from where we were only a few decades ago. And molestation has probably been around for a long time before that.

Saying "the author would have been killed shortly after trying to publish his book" is an utterly stupid stupid thing to say,, utter bullshit.
