Thanks for this video...I have heard of knee drop Tai Otoshi from a BJJ and Judo Black Belt and it has dramatically improved my take down game in BJJ... I don´t really expose my back and can use my body weight and gravity in a great way with this throw and basically end up right in side control. Great technique!

Excellent move! However I received a fair warning from a friend who did competitive Judo at national level: its very injury-prone move: when you stretched your leg out, the uke, while attempting not to be thrown, can also drop his knee, which can be right on the back of the hind leg. My friend got broken hind leg for 3 months while attempting this throw! Perhaps you guys can provide a solution for this. Thanks!

I have never seen tori's extended leg injured but certainly believe that it is possible as your friend told you. There are other methods of using this extended leg where tori shoots it along uke's side or even sweeps it. Thanks for your comment as it is certainly relevant to this technique!

Good timing on your part. We have an upcoming video showing a both-sleeve application of Tai Otoshi that will be available to view on May 11, 2019.

Does the 50/50% (or 70/30%) rule work here as is does with regular Tai Otoshi? I mean do you need to have at least 50% of your weight when you are throwing your opponent to the right? And what about the pulling action. Should I pull him forward or the pull should be circular?

Another good question. Thank you Danylo. I would say that the 70/30 rule would be better for this throw than in a regular Tai Otoshi. In pulling, it usually works best when you pull up and forward and as you rotate your shoulders into the throwing action continue to pull.

@@welcomematstevescott Ok. And how can I create space for the throw?
@danyloantoniuk902

And one more question. How can I do this technique if I have little space between me and my opponent?
@welcomematstevescott

As you start your spin in to the throw, use your hands to pull up and forward on the defender. This will create the space necessary.

@@welcomematstevescott thank you! Could you make a video about 70/30 rule for drop Tai Otoshi? It would be very useful for many judoka I suppose.
