Good stuff....i never considered this but one could use the seoi nage grip to fake a shoulder throw, then hit the osoto gari...if that fails, you're set up for the hikkomi gaeshi....feinting forward , backwards , then forwards again

I've been using my knee in the middle, on the left, and on the opponent's right since 1997. That part is all in how you angle that knee's foot. Now, try inserting the second knee on the ribs coming out of the roll. Rise up and turn your body laterally and vertically so the first knee can pin the head with the shin bone. The knee might begin near the clavicle, and slide the shin across the throat until the shin near the foot reaches the neck. His defense will be to tuck his chin and sacrifice his jaw to save his throat. Then sit on your heel. The tap will come quickly.

I don't know if I missed something, but the second version IS Sumi Gaeshi and not Hikkomi Gaeshi? Sumi Gashi is IMHO a perfrct counter to Morote Gari.

@@henrikg1388 Second version is closer to sumi gaeshi, but the sumi involves throwing your opponent over their side - you face off laterally to them, not in front. I think that's the major difference.

why didnt I CONTINUE to take judo when I was young? ANSWER because it wasnt as sexy as karate. I didnt know at the time that sexy has a time watrantly.

why is Hikkomi Gaeshi considered a transition rather than a proper throw?
@welcomematstevescott
@welcomematstevescott 4 года назад
It serves as both. If you don't get Ippon for the throw, you still have an effective transition.
@ARKSTGT
@ARKSTGT 4 года назад
@@welcomematstevescott so, basically the fact that the position after the kake, which makes you easily continue in ne waza, makes it a transition ? Thanks for the explanation.
@welcomematstevescott
@welcomematstevescott 4 года назад
That is correct. Follow though with the throw so that you can transition immediately into a hold or submission technique.
@ARKSTGT
@ARKSTGT 4 года назад
@@welcomematstevescott so, (Soto) Maki Komi should be considered a transition as well, I think!?
@welcomematstevescott
@welcomematstevescott 4 года назад
Soto Makikomi is definitely a hard throwing technique, but it is a good example of how just about any throw can be used to transition to the ground.
