In this video I begin my section hike along the Appalachian Trail from Rockfish Gap at the entrance to Shenandoah National Park to Harpers Ferry WVA, a journey that will cross state lines, cover the entirety of SNP, complete the Virginia Rollercoaster, and end crossing the river into Harpers Ferry. Please join me in my goal to complete this section in 7 days.
I began my hike at 1pm on Tuesday June 6th 2023 made it 13.56 miles before making camp along the ridge above Turk Gap. During the hike 3671 feet of elevation gain and 2421 feet of elevation loss. It was a good first day to test the legs.
I am carrying a mystery ranch bridger 65 backpack, with a base weight of 28lbs. With food and water my pack was pushing 40lbs each day.
One of the challenges of being my size, 6'9" and 235 all of my stuff is big and with big stuff adds weight regardless of how light you try and make things.
