Today I completed Moormans River Trail Loop in Shenandoah National Park the loop covers almost 18 miles, which when hiked counter clockwise, descends out of the Turk Gap parking area along a yellow blaze marked trail down to the Moorman river where there are a dozen stream crossings, some deep enough to take off the shoes, lots of waterfalls to see, and the sounds of flowing water to keep you company. This trail is lightly traveled but well maintained and i did not see anyone until mile 13 back on the AT. The trail does go through private property so just be prepared for those restrictions, after about 8 miles you start the hike back up to skyline drive, here you should filter as much water as you are carrying as there will be no other sources for water for the next 10 miles till you get back to your car. the loop covers about 3300 feet of elevation gain and loss and can easily be done in one or two days depending on your fitness. I started around 1100 am and finished a little after 5 pm, there are several campsites along the river that would make for an easy two day hike.
