I began my section hike along the Appalachian Trail from Rockfish Gap at the entrance to Shenandoah National Park to Harpers Ferry WVA, a journey that will cross state lines, cover the entirety of SNP, complete the Virginia Rollercoaster, and end crossing the river into Harpers Ferry. Today I left my campsite along the ridge above Simmons Gap and made my way 27.19 miles to Big Meadows. During the hike I climbed 5883 feet of elevation gain and 5148 feet of elevation loss. Today was a huge mileage day for me, I feel like my trail legs are under me now. The altra's took some damage on the rocks around the toe and my feet are still getting used to the trail pressure on the rocks, my weight plus the pack is not helping any.
I am carrying a Mystery Ranch Bridger 65 backpack, with a base weight of 28lbs. With food and water my pack was pushing 40lbs each day.
One of the challenges of being my size, 6'9" and 235 all of my stuff is big and with big stuff adds weight regardless of how light you try and make things.
