Glad I came across this! I'm always looking for new hikes to do! With it being over 10mi. in length, it's gonna be hard convincing someone to go with me LOL!!

Ive hiked it solo many times. The people you see there are gold miners, not transients. If you go on the weekends be sure you get there by 5:30-6am or you will be parking miles away from the trail head and the walk is all uphill.

I've done this hike alone (you can even run/jog, it's about an hour to reach the bridge to nowhere, if you come early enough - where you are not stuck in foot traffic), and have also stayed the night (not alone) in one of the valleys. It's a beautiful trail, with lots of wildlife - we saw a really big tarantula last time we were here. Quick warning: when it rains heavy, the river will rise significantly. There was one time this year when we cancelled our hike right at the 1st crossing, where the water was up to our chest. It was more of a flash flood, with logs, debris, etc. We turned right around and went home. As we found out much later, someone tried crossing (around the same month), and didn't make it. Their body was recovered eventually, but in the moment, no one could help them, people just watched the body float downstream.

Oh dawn, thanks for that info. We too had to cancel out hike in June because of how much rain we had in the spring. Hope to make it back this coming spring. I also saw mountain sheep on one of the times i hiked it. See u in the trails 🙌

I'm not too familiar with gpx files, I would just screen shot. I was able to track my hike and see where I was by having my location on before leaving the city, just made sure battery wasn't being drained

Just a heads up that since the video was posted they have put up signs saying to not cross under the bridge and that you will go to jail because it is private property. Not sure if that’s a risk anyone wants to take but just putting it out there!
@hikeronatrail
@hikeronatrail Год назад
Thanks for that info. I prefer the the trail directly across the sign, before u reach the bridge. But it's good to know that the trail that goes under the bridge is no longer an option.
@ClaireYurev
@ClaireYurev 8 месяцев назад
Good point: the bridge itself is leased, and I've seen the signs that you describe. These are not made by government or authorities of any kind, and instead were printed by someone privately. In other words, it's more of a request to respect their leased property, and not a guarantee by a judge or a police officer. So, this hasn't been tested in court, in this case. We recently went directly underneath the bridge (right past the signs you described) - with permission from the company. What happened was: one of our hats blew off with the wind, and fell under the bridge. We waited for one of the managers of the bungee operation to have a moment (they were busy, with multiple people jumping that day), and asked him if they'd be okay with us going under the bridge. He was very helpful, and gave us permission to go. I noticed in general, that even on the days when the bungee crew is there, and operates - there are always several people taking the path along the river (underneath) with no problem. It seems that this is accepted as fair use, and not discouraged. Things can change in the future, but that's the way it is currently. Having said that, on days when there is no one on the bridge (when the bungee company does not operate), there are hundreds of hikers exploring the area completely unencumbered. The only time we've ever seen any kind of authorities (rangers, police, fire, etc) near the trailhead is when someone was injured or dehydrated. In other words, rescue activity only.
@dvsmike
@dvsmike Месяц назад
@ClaireYurev the land 1/2 from the sign to 1/2 past the bridge belongs to the bungee company. Their relatives owned it and ultimately they inherited it and started up the company. From what I understand

Hey Devin, thanks for watching hope u find Devils Gulch. It would be really unfortunate making the 1 hr drive, trekking for 5+ hours and not making a short detour to see a beautiful nature's creation, or worse getting lost. Nature is for all of us to enjoy and I do advice my viewers to leave no trace, happy hiking ✌
