In mid-2023, I needed some hiking therapy and didn't have time to head west to the mountains of Virginia. I found a local preserve with hiking trails, wildlife, water and scenery. This is a nice 2-3 mile hike (depending on which trails you take) that is in a small, quiet setting. Be sure to check the hours as they are limited (closes at 4pm). In this video, we view the kayak launches on Hoffler Creek and Lake Ballard, hike the main trail, Homestead Trail, Riparian Trail and Bluebird Trail.

Hike over 3 miles of trails to experience four separate habitats: a riparian forest filled with pines and hardwoods, a meadow of native wildflowers and grasses, a non-tidal fresh water lake, and a tidal creek with its expansive salt marsh.
