Introduction: 0:00
Day 1 Km 82 - Ayapata 1:26
We hike along the Urumbamba River spotting numerous hummingbirds and Incan settlements such as Piskakucho and Patallacta along with small Quechua villages on our way to the Ayapata Campsite.
Day 2 Ayapata - Chaquicocha 7:56
We depart before dawn on the longest and most challenging day of the Inca Trail, climbing to the highest point of the trail at Dead Woman’s Pass suffering altitude sickness along the way. We explore the Incan ruins of Pacaymayo, Runkurakay and Sayamarca before reaching the Chaquicocha campsite at sunset.
Day 3 Chaquicocha- Winay Wayna 20:12
The most scenic day of the journey, we travel along authentic Incan paved stone trails with breathtaking views of glacial covered Andean peaks. On our descent into the forest we take in the Incan ruins of Phuyupamarca, and the agricultural sites of Intipata and Wiñay Huayna, the most impressive Incan site before reaching Machu Picchu. Here we learn about the Spanish Conquest of the Inca.
Day 4 Winay Wayna - Machu Picchu 36:02
We depart before sunset once again to hike to the Sungate (Inti Punku) for a glimpse of the ancient city, Machu Picchu at Sunrise. We make our way down to the site known as the most impressive of all 7 wonders of the world! Here we learn about the mysteries of this site as we walk through to the highlight of the journey, hiking to a point few tourists dare to go, the towering peak of Huayna Picchu. After climbing the stairs of death we get the ultimate view of Machu Picchu from directly above. We finish up at the township of Aguas Calientes before boarding our train back to Cusco.

Awesome video! very informative! quick odd question... Can you tell me the make and model of your green jacket with the orange accents?
@GlobalTravelStories
@GlobalTravelStories 8 часов назад
Thank you! We put a lot of work into our videos.. the jacket was a local NZ company called Mountain Warehouse, I’ve recently upgraded to a Macpac 10,000ml rain jacket because that green one wasn’t very effective with heavy rain.

Machu Picchu is the ruins of a city from the Incan empire that was built in the 15th century. The ruins are in the Andes Mountains, over 2,000 metres above sea level. Its walls and other architectural elements are cut into the natural rock. It’s not certain why the city was first built, although some sources suggest it was used as a royal retreat for the emperor, Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui. It is thought to have been used between the 15th and 16th centuries, but was gradually abandoned over time. Today, it is a very popular tourist site, so much so that the Peruvian government has begun limiting the amount of people able to visit each year to preserve it.

That is an amazing trail with fantastic scenery. Who built it and when please. What was its purpose in the day that it was built. You need to be fit and energetic to tackle that. Enjoyed the video again and thank you for it.

Hi love your video ! What shoes and backpack did you use? And do you have a packing video or list of packing ? I will so appreciate it 😊

@GlobalTravelStories 2 месяца назад
Hi Monica, Glad you loved the video, thanks! Unfortunately we don’t do packing list videos, maybe one day but for now my attention is spent on making the best quality vlogumentary style videos I can. I believe we were both wearing North Face Future Light boots but we have both since upgraded. I have purchased some Mamut Gortex boots for our Everest base camp trip coming soon. The Inca Trail seemed fine in our standard hiking boots though, I wouldn’t imagine you’d run into any issues with something similar. Have an epic time on the trail, it’s amazing!

This was a excellent video. Great shots, relevant information, and beneficial 🎉I am scheduled to visit in June...just curious, how did you manage restroom breaks...I did not see many bushes. Everything appears to be in the open?
@GlobalTravelStories
@GlobalTravelStories 4 месяца назад
Thank you for that, I’m glad this video helped with your research. There are bushes along the way especially in the lower altitudes but there are also multiple restrooms each day. Plus I find hiking and sweating reduces the need to go so each break was sufficient for us..

didn't the Inca see the dark spaces in the Milky Way as a kind of constellation?
@GlobalTravelStories
@GlobalTravelStories 4 месяца назад
I posted an overlay picture, maybe go back and press pause, the dark spaces resemble a llama and one of the stars represent its eye.

Did you take diamox?

I think we started taking it but I was getting some nausea so stopped. I think the main reason I got a bit of altitude sickness was from talking too much instead of breathing 😂

Thanks! As a tour guide history is a big part of what we do. The opinions expressed are that of the local people and come directly from them. The history itself is objective and never subjective. Stating established facts shouldn’t be avoided in these videos, in fact it’s a huge part of what draws us to travel in the first place and something we will never skirt around, everything has been well researched before posting.
