Exploring Alamere Falls Trail: Epic Hike on the California Coast to see a Rare Tidefall Waterfall
In February we took an epic journey to go hike the breathtaking Alamere Falls Trail along the stunning California coast near the town of Bolinas. We started the hike from the renowned Palomarin Trailhead, this scenic hike covers approximately 13.7 miles round trip with an elevation gain of about 1,817 feet, making it an ideal adventure for hiking enthusiasts of all levels.
Alamere Falls is a 40' tidefall waterfall that flows into the Pacific Ocean. It is located on the beach and falls from the cliffs directly onto the sand. This is a quintessential hike located in Point Reyes National Seashore, just northwest of San Francisco. The trail offered tons of great ocean views, including multiple lakes and scenery of the Farallon Islands.
There are a few options for trails on this hike and can be turned into a choose your own adventure hike. Beware that during our adventure we experienced crumbling and eroding cliffs, poison oak, and lots of wildlife. The elevation out of the beach was intense, and although the elevation gain was slight on the way back, it was enough to make it a hard hike out.
