I started the hike from Champex-Lac, Gite Bon Abri, I was quite sceptical as there was no snow in the first few kilometres until I reached the hotel in Val d'Arpette, at least there I could see the signs of snow. The weather was extremly warm, easily 16-17 C, sunny and the snow was melting, so on the way to Glacier Du Trient, I was surrounded by the avalanches and snow movements on my way.
Apart from the warm weather once I was in the valley, the only difference I saw on the snow was the sand, which the last night's snow/rain brought and made the sand a bit yellow. Also I could see trees that I hadn't seen before because they were trapped in the deep snow. The hike took 6.5 hours from Champex-Lac to Glacier Du Trient, which was only 7.5km and 1450m elevation, but it was worth it for this view.
I was amazed, as I have never seen a glacier in my life up until now. I spent a good hour photo-videographing the beauty of Glacier Du Trient, had a quick secound lunch and slowly I put my snowboard on and started my descent. Unfortunately, I forgot my selfie stick at home, so I had to attach my Insta 360 One R to my ice axe, therefore you can see a black triangle on the footage.
Due to the wet/melted snow, navigating the board was quite a challenge as it was sticking so much. When I tried to stop the board stopped and I fall into the snow, which normally not an issue, but this time I could barely move, half of my body was trapped inside the snow. After a few minutes, I could escape from it and quickly put on a jacket, then continue my way down.
I could almost make it back to the hotel in Val d'Arpette when I had to stop once again due to a spring that took the slope away. As I got through the small spring, within a minute of riding I was forced to take down my board and walk the next 25 minutes on the path down to Gite Bon Abri, as there was no sign of the snow anymore.
