Haha, I love how you waited till the end about giving away the Peak design. I was actually just looking at that model or the other model that goes around your belt. I think if you put it on your belt it would be bouncing off your leg constantly. So I think the model you are using would be better, and I’m glad you used the 100 to 500 because I have the 100-400. At least I know it can hold the weight!

Hey Brent...it's the Florida guy. It was cool bumping into you and your family the parking lot. I thought you might be working so I didn't want to delay you, the light never waits. The clip looks great, the one I use is on its own harness, which gets hot with a backpack. Love the blue light photos, I didn't get any, was concerned about the coming darkness.

Thanks for the video, Brent. I used to surf those dunes in my younger years - we used to make surf boards out of 1x6s, bend the ends up and cover the bottom with formica. And we waxed with paraffin. It was a rush. Awesome shots. And thanks for the review on the Peak Design clip. I have looked at some of their other straps, but hadn't seen the clips before.

I have always been nervous about mounting my big lenses supported off the camera body. Just bought a capture clip hoping for the same luck with my 100-400, doubt the 200-600 would be too kind to my lens mount. (Sony user 100-400GM and 200-600G)

Hey - quick question. I have a 200 600mm, would placing the clip in the body put a lot of stress on the mount? It's not like a tripod, where there's a vertical stress. This one is in line with the body and lens weight. Thanks!
@BrentHall
@BrentHall 9 месяцев назад
oh, idk about that. I've never used that lens before, but I think it's heavier than the rf 100-500, so I'm not sure if/how it would work. As far as the mount stress, It would be very similar to carrying the camera with lens attached in your hand and letting it hang down. Same stress plane. Personally, I've never had an issue carrying a camera like that and letting it hang down with a heavier lens attached.

Have you tried any of the cotton carry stuff? I have been using them for my camera while hiking and like it quite a bit, but when I put my Tamron 150-600 on their system it stacks plates too much and moves the weight so far from my body that it is quite cumbersome. I like that this system is compatible with tripod mount natively.
@BrentHall

The only thing I've tried of theirs is the Skout (I made a video about it a few years ago now). I haven't tried their backpack carry mount or their bigger chest mount.

Thank you for an interesting view of someone using the capture clip. I have hesitated about it because of the threat of smashing camera if I were to fall forward. Another concern is having the 3 pound 100-500 lens off the RF mount on the camera. Is it possible that you could deform or damage the mount over time? What are your thoughts? I would be interested in getting the Peak Design Capture Clip
@BrentHall
@BrentHall 3 года назад
I don't think it presents any more stress on the mount than if you were hanging it around your neck or shoulder from a regular strap. It seems pretty solid to me so far. I might be a little hesitant to try it with a big ef lens on an adapter though.
@itaylorm

@BrentHall
@BrentHall 3 года назад
Thanks James! I felt a little concerned at first, and I probably wouldn't want a big ef lens like that with an adapter on there hanging that way, but I feel like the structural integrity of the native mount is fine. Plus it's no different (from a forces perspective) than carrying the lens on a strap around your neck or shoulder.
