I have several gripes with the points that you are making in this video. One, Sure the falco is easier/quicker to move to a different bag but it is only designed from what I can see to work at two different strap thickness levels. The PD clip is infinitely adjustable meaning it is more secure on all bag types. Two, the groves on the PD screws are designed to give you grip to be able to turn them even if you are wearing gloves, if it hurts to turn then don't squeeze as hard Three, I think the reason you notice a rattle on your PD clip is because of the amounts of wear that it has, granted there is a bit more space between the walls of the clip and the Swiss plate but I have been using mine for about two years on the side of my sling and don't notice the noise at all. It also appears that even in the video you need to shake the camera more than it would be shaken during normal use to even produce the minimal amount of noise that you can hear. Four, The button on the PD clip may be more out of the way but that means that it is harder to detach/unlock by mistake. Five, The PROpad that you showed is meant to be used as a belt clip not for protecting your shoulder, if it's hurting your collar then move it down just under your shoulder where you have more surface area. I will admit that there are a few things that I do like about the Falco, First that it's half the price of the PD clip(which you don't even mention). Second the button being easier to hit (although I feel like that may be a bad thing), and third the fact that it still uses an Arca Swiss style plate. Good video in terms of getting your points across, I just feel as though there are some nitpicks that are blown out of proportion

Couldn't agree more. Some of the Falcam accessories are significantly better that PD (as a 5 year PD user), but in 5 years with 2 clips and 3 bodies, I have never struggled with the things he said. LIke "doesn't work as well if you are left handed. Super valid put for like 10% of the earths population. But dang, if Falcam doesn't just have more options, so I am looking into that hybrid option.

I ordered the Falcam and the tolerances were just bad. The plate (which I had to buy separately) would rattle around when clipped in and would occasionally slip part way forward out of the full grip of the latch at the top. Did not give me confidence in the product at all. Secondly I found the cable system finicky to work with. He makes it look slick in the video, he's clearly had practice, but straight out of the box if you pull on that tab at the end of the cable the wrong way the metal bar that is clipped onto the cable can pop off and then you have to mess around to clip that back on in order to pull the cable tight and finish mounting it. Huge pain. Finally while the cable feels sturdy now I wouldn't trust using it long term. What if it gets nicked and damaged and you didn't notice and then one day the cable snaps. I can't even tell if it's a metal cable underneath or just nylon or something. Too risky IMO. The system is interesting but too many red flags for me to trust it and I would much rather have something like the Peak Design clip that clamps flat on the strap with two strips of metal.

Hi, considering those two products what do you think about Ulanzi Claw Clip in terms of attaching/detaching the gear? I'm a little bit worried that pinching to detach will be too "difficult" in day to day usage as well as to attach the camera you have to know exactly where the clip is because you have to attach the camera perpendicularly to the clip, a little bit different compared to those two from the video.

Not covered in the video but the Falcam F38 v2 QR bases (both shoulder & capture/ backpack) accept the Peak Design plates as well if you've a mixed system. I've tested with both the older PD plate (came with Clutch CL-2) and newer PD plate (thinner plate that came with CL-3 warranty replacement) and they work just fine. It remains to be seen if Falcam would produce an Arca to F38 v2 QR base for tripods though.

Worth to mention, PD offers a life-time warranty, and Falcam is 1 year. Though, I don't think either one will brake easily. Also extra money for PD is most for their good CSM.

Totally agree with you on this. I've been a die hard fan of the Capture Clip V3. I have 3 of them but ever since I got my hands on the Falcam V2, I had a change of heart, haha. It's just so good! Usually when companies copy a product, they get something wrong but Falcam definitely did an awesome job with the clip!

Speaking as a fellow slim build guy, I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the comfort level of the clamp. However for me I’m not sure if this type of system is for me? I already have a L grip on my X-T5 which has an Arca Swiss groove, I don’t really want to attach yet another item to the camera. Pity there isn’t a clamp that could accept any Arca Swiss compatible plate?
@markfriday
@markfriday 5 месяцев назад
Hi, there! I actually had the same sentiments as you. I own so many cages with built-in Arca Swiss plates at the bottom. Ended up not using cages for my walk-around cameras. I only use cages/brackets for rigs I use when I film production work or interviews wherein I actually need to mount a lot of gear on my rig. But back to your question, you're gonna have to really put a plate. I know it's kind of redundant with you having your L-bracket. May I ask if you have any specific reason for using an L bracket? Is it for added grip or for shooting landscapes?

I'm just upgraded my set from PeakDesign strap to Ulanzi Falcam 38. New Maglink strap pro, BackPack Strap Clip V2 and QuickRelease system for the tripod and gimbal. I love it, thinner, lighter, more comfortable strap, thr BackPack Strap Clip can handle wider straps, easy to install (it takes more than 24 seconds for me :-) and significantly cheaper than the PD CC v3. But anyway i love and loved the PD strap, but this Falcam Strap Pro is much more comforable for my moderate heavy camera (EOS 80D + Sigma 150-600, above 2,5kg) and the plate is very small but sturdy and I can you my older camera with the PD system. Absolutely well thought system is the Falcam F38 + Maglink straps.

Would there be a way to mount other items to the backpack clip, I am curious because it would be awesome to have a small little pouch with other camera accessories on the other backpack strap or even for every day items like sunglasses and things of that nature and then you can unclip the pouch easily for better use.
@markfriday
@markfriday 6 месяцев назад
Hey there! I actually thought about that a while back, it's just that it's not easy to mount an arca swiss plate on to a little pouch, it's doable but it'll require some rigging haha! Good idea though! If I come up with something, I'll definitely make a video about it!

@benbunch4159 6 месяцев назад
The Falcam doesn't allow you to insert it both ways. If I was willing to give that up I'd just use something arca Swiss which the bottom of my camera grip already is cut for which would mean no plate. When I am using it in my bag I want the lens to point in the direction it slots in. When I am using it on my belt I want it perpendicular. I don't want to constantly change the plate around.

@markfriday

Hi there! It's not lose at all. You have to use the correct tension to make sure it's grabbing it while pulling it instead of just grabbing it. So you're gonna have to move it to another slot for the cable. I hope this makes sense haha.

I use P38 exclusively so I bought two of the P38 version 2 clips. The mounting mechanism is better than V1, or PD - but I am finding there is far more lateral play when a camera is mounted. V1 is rock solid, while V2 is way too loose for my liking. I will return them and hope that V3 holds the plate as well as V1.

idk man, all your points just pushed me further to spending the extra money on a PD capture clip instead of the falcam system. I trust metal over cables and plastic, especially that rubber plastic crap that will liquefy in some years time. And you stating that you've used the PD system for 5 years, and those were the only downsides kinda just sold me that it's something that I'd expect to last.

I have to Falcam Backpack Clip V2's and they don't rattle and there's almost no play. One thing I changed is that I use the Peak Design Capture Clip plate more than the Falcam because of it's compatibility with my Mantis Pod Pro. But yeah, there should be no rattle, if there's any sort of play or rattle, it might have been installed incorrectly or you have a defective model. You can contact Falcam for that.

Sensible, constructive criticism of the PD capture clip - not really sold on their gear anyway (made the mistake of buying one of their (inflexible) straps - never again. I've just purchased a number of QR plates, capture clips & mounts for my tripods - at a fraction of the price that PD retails at. Falcam economically sound, robust, excellent quality & innovative design - as per over ten reviews, plus photographer colleagues who endorse Ulanzi's camera support systems. Thank you !

I'm not sure that a speed test is of any value whatsoever. The saving of 20 odd seconds before I set out on my hiking trip is, well, irrelevant. I'm not overly convinced by the Falcam product, from what I see. I'm not supporting in favour of Peak Design, either - whilst their designs are quite slick, some of their equipment in-use is awful! Now I'm having a look at Cotton Carriers' G3 Strapshot, but haven't come to any conclusion, yet. Whilst it is a velcro wrap-around (as opposed to a friction fit) it does require anchoring at the top of the backpack to prevent the 'unit' from slipping down. But is velcro, even with a stiffener plate too floppy? Anyone know? At least they provide in their bundle a safety lanyard to stop your camera from falling to the ground following a clumsy moment, plus a rain cover for the camera, as well as a hand grip....and there is an adaptor plate (extra) for non-Swiss Arca peeps. As for colour? Well, choice is always nice: surely, this is photography, not a fashion show..... Maybe the Cotton Carrier bundle should be designed by Peak Design?? 😂 For the moment, it looks as though I will be going on my next hike using my rather old Black Rapid Sport sling strap - the Nikon kit hanging on the end of it has occasionally swung around and slammed into rocks, it is still all working perfectly. Probably unsaleable because of a few scratches, but hey! I would, though, like to try a backpack strap/clip system, as they seem to offer dome useful advantages over conventional straps, as well as - and this is where time is a consideration - taking your hiking pack off your back, then digging around inside to extract your camera, brushing your crumbled sandwich off it.... Oh! And don't suggest twisty-around backpacks with a camera carrying compartment. For most hikes I like the leanest, simplest, most accessible means of carrying my camera, leaving the backpack for what it does best :)

The Peak Design V3 is a nice gimmick but nothing more. For me, the screws come loose on hikes on my bab, even if I tighten them very firmly beforehand. For this reason, I think it's only suitable for a walk, but I certainly won't be hanging a camera on it on a hike. Incidentally, my camera with lens only weighs 800g ;)

Amazing feedback. The biggest utility in what you shared goes to highlight how much user error can come into play. Because for 5 years, I have never had any issues with my 2165g ;) setup. I admit I have never done through hiking, so maybe multiple nights is the issues. But I am beyond happy with the experience of this nice, reliable gimmick that has never failed me in over 15 countries or 6 national parks. Truly, I hope if you pick up the Falcam that you're able to do a better job of understanding how it works so you don't suffer the same issue with another, wonderful gimmick.

@@michaelp9313 No insight into difficult of terrain, but if we're only talking about 12 miles a day, we're experiencing the same distance. But atop the loops in the mountains, I've used it on busy subways and buses and have never had any issues with either of my clips. Since you addressed it and there is no chance it could be user error, maybe you're just part of the unlucky 4% that don't like it (based on nearly 8,000 reviews on amazon) where 96% of people do. Speaking of which, do you know any other gimmicks that satisfy 96% of users? I might have to look into those as well. As much as I love my capture clips, you calling them a gimmick is probably high praise.
