Say what you want about Kessel, he put the crappy Toronto media on notice got run out of town, fought cancer, and came back with 2 Stanley Cup rings, AND is still playing hockey today. The guy is like Sinatra. He did it his way.
Phil is hilarious. I can't get over the time he and Malkin were yelling at each other on the bench in the conference final with Kunitz laughing in between them. Classic.
Imagine if Phil actually cared about his body and put in the effort that most NHLers do. The guy crushes nachos, then scores 30 goals. He’d be fucking unstoppable.
This guy was born in the wrong decade. 1970s Kessel with the Lanny Macdonald mustache, can you imagine? He would’ve been living his best life, teaching the young guys about pre-game cheese for endurance.
Omg...lol. I was thinking the same thing. Gretz was crushing McDonalds in LA...eating chocolate bars, and smashing soda between periods...Darcy Tucker was smoking butts between periods.....
They say goalies are weird. Kessel has one of the slickest snapshots and maybe one of the best wrist shots in history but has the work ethic of Shaq. It's fucking hilarious I want him to be the all time ironman so bad. I love Doug Jarvis and Yandle's record has kind of a asterisk. But if Kessel broke it downing hot dogs and nachos and Pepsi I would just die happy
I love how I've heard the 2nd story from multiple different perspectives, and they all tell it exactly the same! Goes to show how iconic Phil Kessel is I guess 😂
I concur with the below comment! Keep these stories coming! The last one that Brian Burke spoke of Phil bringing Mr. Sub on a team flight that provides dinner was classic!
A friend of mine, Leafs fan, turned me on to the Kessel Legend. He was really pissed they ran him out of town. As soon as I saw a pic of Phil the Thrill, I realized the connection. My hockey playing buddy looked just like Phil! Beer barrel shaped body, but could skate and shoot. Think my buddy projected himself as narrowly missing having Kessel's NHL career. Phil is an Everyman. I have a Coyotes jersey with his name and number.
I have a theory about Kessel's diet. I think he doesnt get injured because of the extra fat and calories. Ochocinco said the same thing about his diet in the NFL. Ocho was lean, but I think the fatty fast food diet gave him a bit more cushion for the pushin, especially when it comes to tendons and joints
everyone is laughing but the last laugh was had by Phil the Thrill, flying down the wing with a hotdog in his hand while sniping it top cheddar to hoist the Stanley cup 2x
Phil is a future hall of famer! 2 cups. . Bill Masterton award...multiple 80 point seasons. .....scoring leader and gold medal winner world Juniors. ....on pace to be all time Iron man leader....he overcame CANCER! ....If this is ANY other athlete in any other sport., There's a documentary being made ! Why is he a laughing stock.
