Drass in Ladakh is one of the most important habitats for the rare Himalayan Brown Bears. I manage to spot this family of mother and her lone cub and an another family of mother and two cubs on my first expedition to the area.
Recently five families were seen in the upper ridges of Mushko Valley and surrounding mountain landscapes which is a good news.
After the Kargil war (2 decades before), Brown Bear population dwindled due to artillery shellings and disturbances due to India and Pakistan war.
This is video clips of Himalayan Brown Bear mother and her cub atop a snowy mountain, some 900 m from our place across the Mushko river, returning from their night venture for food. They slipped into their den after this playful display.
