Shocking fitness level needed to prepare for ancient combat. Alexander the Great's army saw what India's armies were about & wanted no part of it. Having done heavy lifting & endurance running these exercises are spectacular so exercisers try some out especially squat movements. I've talked to young Hindu's in Canada that seem to know nothing about these exercises preferring to use machines at gym that are far far easier but produce little.
I really like these exercises but this video is frustrating to watch because a lot of this footage is repetitive, shot from the same camera angle, and cuts away too soon for the viewer to see the full range of motion of each exercise. The videographer could have made much better choices.
It usually happens as rope climbing with a lot of variations in the akhada along with drawing a LOT of water from the well! But rope climbing is not functional hence, traditional hindu training stresses on lathi chalan(staff movements) to build a functional upper torso.
I like all these exercise as it is ancient type of exercise without equipment every one once in a day have to do all these exercise by that our body will definitely fit and healthy
this is AMAZING! i teach hatha yoga at a texas yoga studio and i have never seen this before. true evidence of why we are to be eternal students. always something to learn. this is the ultimate marriage of what i know of as plyometrics and hatha yoga. thank you for sharing.
this is reallyu cool - thank you so much for pisting this - I'd love to work this into my routine - how long would you do this for and how many reps of each? AGain, many thanks for posting - this looks the DON.
These exersizes are actually very good for connectivity with your spirit. The high numbers of them help you stay more relaxed, and the stretching opens up the meridians in your body.
FUNCTIONAL STRENGTH at its Simplest and FINEST! Oneof the sssoooo MANY REASONS why I have so much respect for Body weight work outs,Yoga, Qi Gong and traditional MA :) tO THE POSTER OF THE VID,..thanks :)
I am a former professional badminton player. trained for 15 years. 2 years ago I started playing squash with a serious interest, in parallel with my job. 1 year ago I started these Indian methods of exercises to get fit for squash. They give me muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, agility, flexibility all in a single workout. Pain in my knees, elbow, back, due to earlier injuries vanished within 3 wks! Do not forget to breath through nose only and the rythm of breating. Enjoy!
I have had neck issues and found that starting with stretching was key. Start building strength with head raises using a towel/scarf/belt around the forehead then around the back of the head leaning over. I started with a 2lb plate and moved up as my neck got stronger. Be careful not to over do it or you'll really feel it the next day. But slow proper stretching was key for me, take it easy and be careful. Lots of nerves in your neck that link through your entire body. hope it helps!
I agree with you Vishals2 and have found the same in my experience. The muscle built from these types of self-resistance exercises build not onlyfunctional muscle (in regards to wrestling and hand-to-hand combat which weight lifting IME have been pretyt useless for) but also denser and stronger muscle than lifting weights. If you're just interested in a nicer physique or bigger looking muscles then go with the weight lifting. Weights build bulk faster, but bulk is slow and mostly water.
I need to ask, how healthy is this for the knees? This just popped up to my mind, because I've suffered resilient knee pains since highschool (almost 10 years) I have managed to to do some kettlebell and barefoot running to get my knees back to shape. However, it hurts my knees just to watch the guy with double knee braces doing squats with that stick, but maybe I just don't know any better. Is he wearing those because the practice or is this good way to strengthen the knees? Cheers!
I do TaiChi and see these exercises as good compliment to condition whole body. However, I wonder if some of these exercises that involve repetitive knee bending while weight bearing, whether they would be beneficial to strengthen supporting muscles of the knee or whether potentially damaging and lead to premature wear of knee joints. I guess it would depend on whether or not the exercises were done properly; weight sinking down through core into ground instead of down & out through the knees
you could always take this same exercise but flip it in reverse. Instead of bending your back out (backwards) and rotating on your neck, do it with your back bending the opposite way so that this way you can put your knees on the floor and control how much of your body weight is going to your neck and do it like that adding more of your weight until you get where you'd like to be then do it the other way.
depends on if you are training for strength or if you are training for mass. if you don't have a good range of motion while training for strength like olympic lifters would the likelihood of getting injured due to poor technique increases significantly. it also depends on the exercises you choose. compound exercises often increase your mobility while isometric exercises tend to stiffen the joints and reduce flexibility
@20baki20 weight training mostly gains you muscles, bodyweight training strenghtens joints, tendons and makes you more agile weightlifting stiffens you.
Every now and then i have to physically restrain people in my job. The problem is i can feel i have lost a lot of strength as i dont exercise any more. Would you recommend this workout or something else. many thanks.
mnpli - i have just got serious about physical training due 2 some health issues that surfaced last year - i was 356 lbs (i'm 6' 6" tall) , i am now down to 310 lbs due 2 diet & running/ power walking everyday - how do i start strengthening my neck as a beginner? or is it safe 4 me 2 start with the neck bridges that i see being exhibited here n ur video ... ?
I know it does and I have read some stuff written by the people you mentioned. Maybe I should have stated that "using myself" works out better for me than weight training. sorry fo any confusion.
not to mention with weights you may train to lift 200lbs over your head... but only be able to do it once. weights don't do much for explosive power, muscle endurance or functional muscle memory (for the most part)
the reverse position I'm talking about is the same as if you were about to do pushups or a handstand but only with your knees on the floor. This won't work out the back muslces like the other way will though but it will work the neck. nameste
Weight lifting for strength is necesary, every professional has a program, you can get very strong with bodyweight but to get maximal strength you need to lift!
Very interested in the exercises here. Is there any place I can get complete instruction for this. I can tell just by watching that these exercises will yield excellent gains in muscular endurance, overall conditioning, and flexibility. Believe combining some of this with the cardio and plyo work I do could improve my sports performance substantially. Any info you could provide would be appreciated.
I think you already got a reply but just lie down and have your head with neck over an edge and try to straigten the neck as if you were lying. It seems easy but the muscles will tire fast and go hard. Don't forget to stretch and relax the muscles :D
check out kalari (indian martial art) videos and you will forget your judo, not trying to down you or anything just watch it and you will see (watch the whole thing). Its a damn shame, hindus are so passimistic that they would rather be ruled by others then to hurt them. Otherwise mogals and British had a world of hurt coming to them when they invaded.
Weight training is more than capable of increasing strength, flexibility, and endurance. It is a part of many professional athletes', and unprofessional average Joes', training programs. Read anything written by Lou Schuller, Alwyn Cosgrove, Mark Rippetoe, and--fuck it--Eugene Sandow. Sandow's dead, but if I'm going to generalize from a single individual to the rest of a given population in order to support an argument, then he's my man. Or, I'll use myself. It's worked for me so far!
0:10 - 0:16 guy to the right wouldn't it be better to always do the hindu pushups like that instead of getting back to the starting position from the cobra position by just arching forward. I feel like you'd put more tension on the shoulders and triceps like that.
Looking big doesn't mean a person has become stronger. Body building is totally a different thing, a person who has the best body at an international event cannot b the strongest man. The title clearly mentions strenght training, I hope u undstnd the diff between strength training n body building :D
Hey, have you considered "Musclegion" (just search on Google for it ...)? On their website you will find a good free video featuring the best way to grow notable muscles fast. It helped James overcome his muscle development plateau and therefore pack on cut lean muscle without fat super fast. It may work for you too...
I hope ppl watching this vid come here when they undstnd diff between body building n strength training. Best example would be Shaolin monks, evry1 knws tht they r strong as an Ox bt they dnt look like Body builders......so plz if u dnt agree with whts shown in the video, atleast try to be sensible :D
Apparently you have never heard of The Great Gama. He died undefeated and lifted a 1.2 tons stone by the age of 22. I bet all of them are able to flick your forehead to Pluto.
@ysomioc yep i agree. I was looking everywhere for the best way to put on huge muscles mass. And I heard it from one of my body builder friend, that you can use this method to gain big muscles. The video is public now. Have a look >> bit.ly/NEQ4FK?=jmvved
You are correct. even i was very sad since i workout well for abs but nothing was coming. And My international body building trainer also recommended this 7 food elements to kill your fat belly. you can see it here bit.ly/19lvGaD?=nlxdr
sure is right. You are smart if you understand you need to eat right at your age to kill your belly. Listen Do you know about the 7 odd foods that kill belly fat if you don't know about them you must see this. have a look here bit.ly/11mjTTv?=mrxvc
This should help with people with flexibility problems like many bodybuilders have....but don't expect to get big doing these....just another tool in the tool box
Mate, this style of training will get you nowhere fast! You may have SOME gains in strength and flexibility at first... But it'll come to a screaming halt an then it's all endurance... Do this and you'll wind up looking like the guy with the tattoos.... Scrawny and frail looking... Seriously guys.. Lift some DB's/BB's, sling a sandbag around, get on the gymnast rings, a few isometric holds here and there and you're sweet! But I'm sure some people think this method has merit because the word "Hi
Absolutely right. i know the bad fat is the reason that stopping 6 pack coming outside even we work out well. And the surprising part is my friend who is not doing much excercises, maintaining his six pack with this secret food items. if you are serious go for it now bit.ly/1dtPdEZ?=hvdkq
look i hardly think mnpli is a practitioner, lets put aside humble (no offense mnpli i respect you dog.) The point is simple your chai tea came from indian martial art and yoga. And believe me when I say the above techniques are not just meant to make you strong but to out last you everyone. check out kalari videos where master of this art (who perform similar exercise on dialy basis) are over 100 years old and still running strong.
