No, no reason at all. It's sometimes it's easier to handle smaller pieces.

No, it's better not to tin first because the gap between each foiled piece of glass allows the wire to fit down in the gap as much as possible. Hi Patti, sorry for the delay. I would frame the butterfly with wire and attach the wire and glass to the body.

She is brushing on flux, which must be done to help the solder adhere. Thanks for your question.

regular copper wire will also work, just be sure to use flux and the solder will easily coat the wire.
