Thank you so much! This video showed your technique beautifully! I had a project where the hinge point came apart & I did not know how to fix it. You just showed me how! Thanks again!!

How does the second piece of wire help if it’s not connected to the main piece of glass.

Hi Saressa, thank you for watching! The second wire is soldered to the wire that I applied to the first piece, it reinforces the bottom piece. I hope this answers your question,

Is there a reason you didn’t use one continuous piece of wire, rather than two separate lengths?

No, no reason at all. It's sometimes it's easier to handle smaller pieces.

If you were putting the wire during construction would you need to tin the pieces first?
@thecuttingedgestainedglass4894
@thecuttingedgestainedglass4894 3 года назад
No, it's better not to tin first because the gap between each foiled piece of glass allows the wire to fit down in the gap as much as possible. Once the wire is in place tinning will adhere the wire in the gap just fine. Thanks for your comment and best of luck. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

This is a great explanation. Any suggestions on how to wire a butterfly body? My wings are hinging on the body.

Hi Patti, sorry for the delay. I would frame the butterfly with wire and attach the wire and glass to the body.

What kind of metal is the wire that you used?

This is so interesting!! Why does she brush it?
@johnlombardo8472
@johnlombardo8472 3 года назад
She is brushing on flux, which must be done to help the solder adhere. Thanks for your question.

20 gauge zinc coated copper wire, which can be purchased online through Ed Hoy, here's a link: www.edhoy.com/art-glass-supplies/metals/wire.html

regular copper wire will also work, just be sure to use flux and the solder will easily coat the wire.
