Denier is a unit of textile measure it hasn't a meaning itself(?

I think it means how thick or thin the material of the stocking is. So the lesser denier would be kinda see through and the higher ones would be thicker or more opaque. I think 80 denier is right in the middle, not too thick and not too light. Just shows the right amount of skin.
