Buckethead is 6 ft 7 and he moonwalks, robot dances, and does nunchuks on stage. I've seen him 22 times and he amazes me each time. He has over 700 albums out. My favorite of all time.
It's called a natural harmonic. There's certain areas of the fretboard that create them. Looks like a 12th fret harmonic. Artificial harmonics are where you play a note and touch the string where the natural harmonics are and then there's pinch harmonics, which are digging the edge of your thumb into the string after picking it.
@@CJ-Fischer I think his amp just has a lot of gain so it sustains and starts trying to turn into feedback but Buckethead has great control of his instrument to it's only feeding back from the frequencies he allowed to ring out which are the ones that add to the note he played. It's something that you develop a feel for over time and not something I think anyone could teach a person to do.

I took my 17 YO to see him two nights ago and it was incredible. After the show, he handed out sack after sack of gifts to the audience - he even gave a sweet young lady a new LTD guitar and she was still hugging it like 15 minutes later in the merch line.
I cut my teeth on the greats of the 70s.... I discovered Buckethead 10 yrs ago. I listen to him everyday. Saw him live 3 yrs ago, and it was GREAT !!!!! ( 67 yr old usa rocker)
Buckethead is critically underrated. Hes got so much music its insane. I recommend reacting to hold me forever or standing in the field. Love your channel bro
I had the pleasure of seeing him live at a really small local venue years and years ago and it was one of the best experiences of my life. You should definitely check out more of Buckethead, you won't regret it.

Hes close to 700 albums, now. Buckethead is proof what 10 hrs of practice a day will get you. If you want to dig further Lotus island, all of pike 40, and jordan, are few quick suggestions. I consider what he does, a soundtrack to life, more than just songs. Love the channel 👍
Pike 264 Poseidon (especially parts 4-6) is probably the greatest rock instrumental I've ever heard. Absolutely stunning composition with so much energy and passion. Sounds like movie soundtrack stuff. Also, Pike 71 Celery is one bad-ass 29-minute track.
The lead break in this version of Soothsayer is incredibly good. For those who are not aware...it was Buckethead that played the top level guitar music in the Guitar Hero video game.

Yes, Buckethead skips some steps and exports his music directly into your soul. With almost 700 albums (as some have mentioned), he can also directly pour his soul into sound via guitar... not sure how this shit works, but I bet he's an alien :D (a very cool alien)

What an awful suggestion There are 15 mid-level music-producing guitarists RIGHT NOW that can play 10x the ability Prince ever could have dreamed of being possible. Let alone a band as despicable as The Beatles. Get out of the past

Every note of this song has a memory attached to it… through my ups and downs. Sadness and happiness. Love and heartbreak. Success and failures… This is the background music of my life.

I am a huge fan of the genius of Buckethead. Please take the time to listen to pieces of his catalogue of over 700 albums. Genius of all genres. I guess, start with “Coupon” and “Flare.” So many great ones on RU-vid to sample “Beware of the holding funnel” …. It’s endless. Fastest shredder and created of the most emotional and sublime melodies. This song barely hints at his talent. He deserves to be listened by everyone. Everywhere. That’s called a harmonic note you asked about. You just touch the string in the right place without pressing it into the fretboard at all and it will resonate at a specific tone depending on the string and the place you hold your finger.
You aught to check out some of the bands he’s in… DeliCreeps, Colonel Claypool’s Bucket of Bernie Brains, Praxis, he’s got an album produced by and featuring Serj from System of A Down. He plays many different styles. He’s just amazing.

Both are epic songs from 64/65, that's 1964 /5. Ya know before auto tune , raw talent. Move to the 70s an Family of brothers, the Bee Gees will blow you away with their harmonies, they owned the 70s !!! "To Much Heaven ", "Stayin Alive", your Mum may even know that one. He also was in a band w Maximum Bob ( Maximums Bobs stockyard skinners) and Pinchface in 1992 called the Deli Creeps. “Dawn of the Deli creeps”. And although it’s not technically an album it’s on YT and just got put on Spotify and Apple Music. It’s considered Avant-garde metal. Metal funk. Obviously BH shreads on it and one song in particular “Time” is one of their greatest songs.

Animals as leaders “CAFO” or polyphia “champagne” are great examples of how this sort of guitar playing has evolved and gotten better. They’re both like ten or so years old so it would be some good middle ground between this and today. Great stuff as always brother!
Excellent guitarist! That technique you were questioning is one of many guitar trick where he used his right hand to tap and hold a not on the neck. Many guitarist borrow from Eddy Van Halen who really made this famous (although he admitted that he didn’t create it, but he brought it to a new level). I don’t know what it’s called as I’m just a humble bass player but my guitarist occasionally did this at the same time using his left hand to “capo” or pinch all the strings above the “tapping” area to create a new bridge change everything on the neck. Eddy Van Halen’s live solo “eruption” has s the single most amazing guitar playing I have ever seen.
Its caled a "hammer on" and he is puling a natural harmonic out of it. If you ever want to listen to something for yourself pike 65 "hold me forever" its a 25 minute song wrote after his mom died from breast cancer. It is one of the most beutiful instrumental songs. I started learning guitar about 15 years ago and even played shows up and down the east coast with my band. Always stand/sit as comfortable as you can when playing, it makes it easier to learn/play. Good on you for learing guitar bro, i has to put it down for 2 years but im getting back into it. I play epiphone les paul custom shop and i use Vox(british company) hybrid tube amps, they always sound good. It took me 4 years and i still cant play his solos, he is a virtuoso.
Love some Buckethead. Nottingham Lace is another fav of his. I do suggest you listen to the album version of Soothsayer (on your own time) because the back half of that song is one of the most beautifully composed pieces of soloing I've ever heard.
Bro check all his Pikes....like over 300 tracks plus more. Insane artist that is a complete humble man. This is one you talked about, that is in the woodwork. There are people all over the world sharing thier music that are insane musicians with no strings attatched other than just to play what they want.

Another guitarist known for being a beast that was in Guns NRoses Ron Thall aka Bumblefoot. He has been a solo guitarist and artist since 1995. He is absolutely incredible and one of the most humble and nicest guys ever. You shpuld check him out ad well. Way underrated.
Hey man, I first discovered your channel when you began doing TOOL reactions (they were my main music obsession from 2019-2021). But once I discovered Buckethead in late 2021, that's pretty much all I listen to anymore. I'm quite certain there is no living musician who has recorded more original music than this dude. Pick any 20 guitarists and compile all of their life's work and it won't even come close to Buckethead's output. And while he's generally thought of as an incredible shredder (which is true), he's so much more versatile than that. His work spans multiple genres, everything from metal to easy-listening tunes. But in my view, what really sets him apart from other great guitarists is his compositional skills. The guy is truly a musical genius. If there were a top 100 list of greatest rock instrumentals, Buckethead would deserve at least 70-80 spots on that list. He just has so much extraordinary music. The fact that he's an extremely strange dude is a special bonus. If you're curious enough to check out more of his material, I could easily recommend dozens of great ones, but I'd probably start with Mount Shasta. It's completely different than Soothsayer and one of the most glorious guitar pieces I've ever heard.

Since you loved Buckethead you should check out a band called Colonel Claypool's Bucket Of Bernie Brains. It's Buckethead on guitar, Bernie Worrel (legend from The Talking Heads) on keyboards, Brain (from many projects including Primus) on drumsand Les Claypool (legend from Primus and many, many other projects) on bass. It is absolutely amazing. Also if you havent heard them you should check out Primus. I'd recommend their songs "Too Many Puppies", "Scissorman" or "Ballad of Bodacious" to start with.

Yo, i haven't even watched, this but Buckethead is my fuckin dude!!! I play guitar myself, this guy is an inspiration and the reason i also don't want to play. He's the goat. he is also the friendliest and nicest guy doing everything for his fans, it is all about them not the money or the fame. He is known to go buy little trinkets from dollar stores and storing them in bags and giving them out to the crowd. If you like him you should see Jared James Nichols (threw me to the wolf would be a good song) and John5. Edit: If you do get around to checking out more of him, listen to Pike 65, Hold Me Forever. Do it in its entirety, even if it is by yourself off cam cause it is almost 30 min long. It was written in memory of his mom. It's guitar playing at its absolute finest. Edit 2: That thing he did was just tap the note... you can do it at any point, VanHalen Eruption was a lot of it really fast but you can just hammer into the fretboard and hold it in place. I know you mentioned it being a beautiful guitar, that's his signature Gibson Les Paul. It's i think 25% larger than a normal les paul if i remember correctly (i dont want to look it up lol) he's also got a killswitch on his guitar to turn off sound output. I don't really like Les Pauls personally to play on but I would want this one for sure.
There are good "Guitar Players" and there are a few "Guitar Masters". Guitar Masters are people who spend so much time exploring the instrument that they can make it do things others simply can not. Stevie Ray Vaughn, David Gilmore, Mark Knopfler and Buckethead are True MASTERS of the guitar. They all can make a guitar "sing" like very few others can. What I would have given to see Buckethead and SRV get a chance to play together. That would have been some amazing playing to witness. And if SRV was alive, I am SURE it would have happened at some point.
One of my favorite memories is seeing Buckethead play this live in a small venue. Near the end of the song, his fingers appeared to be blurring they were moving so quickly on the fretboard.
