It was actual Mustaine that wrote that riff, but yah, he said he ripped it from Skynyrd. Love this album!

Mustaine played the riff as a joke and Lars was like WOAH WHAT'S THAT USE IT.

It’s crazy that metallica doesn’t play that riff for that reason anymore at shows. I think they wanted to pay tribute

I feel like how similar the riff is, people tend to exaggerate that. Metallica/Mustaine definitely made it sound different enough that it isn’t totally obvious. Not as obvious as “Fade to Black” paying homage to “Goodbye Blue Sky” by Pink Floyd, or the obvious riff from Master Of Puppets that was inspired by David Bowie’s “Andy Warhol.” I’d say those ones are definitely more obvious than the “Sweet Home Alabama riff” from The Four Horsemen.

Had a shop air compressor once. That upon starting it's charge cycle sounded just like the intro to Motor Breath. Constantly having to listen to that song due to this machine 😂😂

A lot of folks forget about Exodus. Another good band from that time. Haven't listened to an Overkill album since the late 80's. Never hear anyone reacting to D.R.I. or Sacred Reich either for matter.

Yep, up to the departure of Jason. I ate and slept Metallica since this record. Nothing against Rob, but I was done with them after he joined.

I absolutely love and enjoy Dave Mustaine's bitterness😝😝😝 almost as much as I enjoy Megadeth itself

I watched both Megadeth and Metallica live within the last year. Both brought the heavy metal riffs that are foundational to what metal is known for. Never understood the hate between the fans of both bands. I'm just glad we still have them both. And Judas Priest. Yeah, Judas Priest.

So, Metallica had their epic 4, almost untouchable. But Megadeath has shredded for a dozen great albums, something Metallica couldn't do. Glad they split so we can enjoy both😊

For Metallica yeah, definitely not all of metal. It is funny how it’s played over sweet home alabama though.

@@carolynm.7530 Most of the songs were made in 1982 so they were really 18-19. Cliff was a few years older.

Yeah most of them were young, Megadeth, Exodus, Testament I would say aswell and Slayer ofcourse

Mechanix is such a letdown compared to Horsemen IMO. Too fast, too messy, worst lyrics ever. But Dave had to speed it up from the original demo version to be faster than Metallica.

@paulgrudowski4383 Mechanix was the original song. James and Lars slowed the tempo, added some chord progressions and changed the lyrics.

@dazed1nyc540 I know it was the original, but you are slightly wrong. The demo version of Mechanix and final version of Horsemen are almost the same speed. Dave sped the final version of Mechanix up significantly because he wanted to be faster.

@paulgrudowski4383 yeah, either way I don't disagree, i think it sounds sloppy sped up also. I feel like Cliffs performance on Horsemen is vastly overlooked as well. Wouldn't shine through as much if played on Mechanix

@markuslausen me either! Back in 86, I was 16 yrs old, had just barely discovered Megadeth's "Peace Sells" album, and instantly loved it. Shortly after that , I heard 2 Metallica songs in passing, Battery and Master of Puppets (brand new songs at the time), and I'm embarrassed to say, wasn't really grabbed by them at first. To my young and inexperienced ears, I thought they sounded almost more punk than metal. So I was originally a Megadeth fan and thought they were the heaviest thing I'd ever heard. Then I heard Kill 'Em All while riding around in a car with friends and was completely blown away. We listened to that cassette, playing in a loop over and over all day long, and I loved every minute of it! From that moment, I was ALL about Metallica! I HAD to get that album. I ended up wearing out 3 cassette tapes for Kill 'Em All and fell in love with the rest of their library. I've been a huge fan ever since.

Metallica was never the same w/o Cliff in my opinion. RIP

Been commenting this for weeks/months now. This lad will be absolutely blown away by Seattle ‘89; maybe the greatest live set ever performed & recorded. I know he did Creeping Death form Seattle a while ago, but he would almost certainly enjoy reacting to the entire show! Battery, Four Horseman, One, Harvester, etc. just pure brutality.

Come on man Be truthful Metalica grew up on Motorhead and was one of there influence bands, Lemmy very rearly acknowledges other bands but they responded to one another with all out ear bleeds for one one another, I'm half deaf because of one of motorheads concerts from la mor east queens back in the day. Lemmy almost walked out because the stage divers kept going the mic stand and came down and hit Lemmy in the mouth. Crazy freaken night. Metalica played bigger venues further away. At least Motorhead played the local clubs. I just missed them at CBGBs. To this day I have one ear blown out pretty good.

Kids today have no idea what it was like growing up as a kid in the 70's then a teen in the 80's married in the 90's when grunge came in changed it all, untill New Metal came in. Scorpions Led Zeppelin - tribal Brooklyn Pink Floyd Deep purple Rainbow Black Sabbath Judest Priest Iron maiden Metalica Anthrax S.O.D. Storm Troopers of Death(to heavy to be played on any radio) Van Halen - Rush Then all that New Wave stuff then the hair metal bands of 1985 to 2000 Mostly the guys who looked liked chicks had chicks going to their shows the like always followed and listened to all the stuff. Aerosmith was a Footnote but led the hairbands, Warrant, Posion, Dokkon with George Lynch was freaking awesome then the one hit wonders until it's final countdown on Europe. The only punks excepted was The Remons, The Misfits, Deftones 70's had so many classic good Man stuff where Men were Men And Women were Women music you would just have to have a good year on that in of itself. New metal is OK Keeping it Alive like Judest Priest still is. True Defenders of the Faith. No one can deny Slipknot Rammstein, Disturbed, Five Finger Death punch awesome and 7fold Of course there are so much more I missed Like stabbing westward or Helmet and Chevelle 90' s had a like of nuance type rock for TV shows but you have you work cut out for ya. Congratulations Your getting there. The last one most important Christian Metal Lots of Great stuff there Too in Time you will see. Just like Megadeth Korn smashing pumpkins all had a life awakening started with Alice Cooper.
