You guys told me to start listening to Metallica's first album 'Kill Em All' so that's what I'm doing! You can see how much they progressed through each album they did. It's even hard to believe how young these guys were when they released this album. The talent is just unmatched.
Here's my reaction to hearing Metallica - The Four Horsemen for the first time. I hope you enjoy!

It’s crazy that metallica doesn’t play that riff for that reason anymore at shows. I think they wanted to pay tribute
@p1g5m0k3
@p1g5m0k3 6 месяцев назад
I feel like how similar the riff is, people tend to exaggerate that. Metallica/Mustaine definitely made it sound different enough that it isn’t totally obvious. Not as obvious as “Fade to Black” paying homage to “Goodbye Blue Sky” by Pink Floyd, or the obvious riff from Master Of Puppets that was inspired by David Bowie’s “Andy Warhol.” I’d say those ones are definitely more obvious than the “Sweet Home Alabama riff” from The Four Horsemen.

Mustaine has been compensated for his parts on the 4 1/2 songs he Contributed on...NOT wrote and ZERO lyrics. As someone who loves Megadeth from what you've heard of them, this is one of the songs Dave Mustaine wrote while in Metallica and is also given a credit on this album. On Megadeths debut album there's a song called Mechanix which is the same guitar riffs played a little faster with different lyrics.
@paulgrudowski4383

Mechanix is such a letdown compared to Horsemen IMO. Too fast, too messy, worst lyrics ever. But Dave had to speed it up from the original demo version to be faster than Metallica.

There isn't a single song I dont love on this record. To the point that I have trouble picking a favorite, but "No Remorse" is probably it for me. @markuslausen me either! Back in 86, I was 16 yrs old, had just barely discovered Megadeth's "Peace Sells" album, and instantly loved it. Shortly after that , I heard 2 Metallica songs in passing, Battery and Master of Puppets (brand new songs at the time), and I'm embarrassed to say, wasn't really grabbed by them at first. To my young and inexperienced ears, I thought they sounded almost more punk than metal. So I was originally a Megadeth fan and thought they were the heaviest thing I'd ever heard. Then I heard Kill 'Em All while riding around in a car with friends and was completely blown away. We listened to that cassette, playing in a loop over and over all day long, and I loved every minute of it! From that moment, I was ALL about Metallica! I HAD to get that album. I ended up wearing out 3 cassette tapes for Kill 'Em All and fell in love with the rest of their library. I've been a huge fan ever since.

I have been *waiting* for this one to come up. Now you need to add The Mechanix by Megadeth to the queue. Those two songs side by side encapsulate the differences between Metallica and Megadeth better than anything ever will. You can check the liner notes on the album, and Dave has writing credits on several songs.

great reaction mate, ive not listened to this album for like 20+ years so gave me goose bumps to sing along with it so thankyou. can i make a few suggestions for the next new music monday please............ the time has come for you to meet machine head and it must be the 1st track off their 1st record called davidian, machine head are one of the rare bands that peak with their 1st album when usually a band will take 3+ albums to peak. machine head came into the world in 1994 with the album burn my eyes and it was nothing short of perfect, great riffs,great drums,great solos and the production was on point. they have changed their style many times over the years (sometimes good/sometimes bad) but this album was their masterpiece in my opinion, im not a hater of their other stuff im just a big lover of their 1st album..............oh it must be the music video please for full on 90''s retro awesomeness. the next new band i would like you to try is fear factory, you mentioned in the pantera im broken reaction that you liked the melodic vocals aswell, well fear factory mix clean singing with metal vocals and have been a major player since the very early 90's. you wont get guitar solos from them but you will get killer drums, they use alot of samples and sound effects aswell and are very industrial. everyone will say replica but please dont as its been done like 10 million times, start with zero signal, it has a brilliant mix of clean/heavy vocals and some killer sound effects in it aswell. best way to describe fear factory is if a group of terminators started a band it would be fear factory :)

I'm so glad you have gotten to this album- it was life-changing in the 80s-it gave pure adolescent anger and aggression a voice like never before. I really enjoy watching your reactions as you experience these classic thrash albums- (you should check out some of the early stuff from Death Angel too!)

the KillemAll stuff is always the best in concert. Seek and Destroy and whiplash seem to be the encores of the later shows I went to. I havent been to any of their geriatric tours, Jason was bassist when I last saw them. and it turns out Jason is by far the coolest of them, and you could see that in their own Binge and Purge video way back in the day and every recent interview with Jason shows what an amazing person he is.

WHIPLASH was The Song that changed it all. Even Motorheads Lemmy covered it because Metalica loved Motorhead.

Come on man Be truthful Metalica grew up on Motorhead and was one of there influence bands, Lemmy very rearly acknowledges other bands but they responded to one another with all out ear bleeds for one one another, I'm half deaf because of one of motorheads concerts from la mor east queens back in the day. Lemmy almost walked out because the stage divers kept going the mic stand and came down and hit Lemmy in the mouth. Crazy freaken night. Metalica played bigger venues further away. At least Motorhead played the local clubs. I just missed them at CBGBs. To this day I have one ear blown out pretty good.

Don't make me go REPECT Pentera style. Ohhhhh play love Hate Pentera too New York Metal Heads Rained Down Blood especially from Brooklyn. For fun the Metalheads went to the Punks in Manhattan pulled their ear rings out when they gave us shit. That time it was a subculture almost militant.

Kids today have no idea what it was like growing up as a kid in the 70's then a teen in the 80's married in the 90's when grunge came in changed it all, untill New Metal came in. Scorpions Led Zeppelin - tribal Brooklyn Pink Floyd Deep purple Rainbow Black Sabbath Judest Priest Iron maiden Metalica Anthrax S.O.D. Storm Troopers of Death(to heavy to be played on any radio) Van Halen - Rush Then all that New Wave stuff then the hair metal bands of 1985 to 2000 Mostly the guys who looked liked chicks had chicks going to their shows the like always followed and listened to all the stuff. Aerosmith was a Footnote but led the hairbands, Warrant, Posion, Dokkon with George Lynch was freaking awesome then the one hit wonders until it's final countdown on Europe. The only punks excepted was The Remons, The Misfits, Deftones 70's had so many classic good Man stuff where Men were Men And Women were Women music you would just have to have a good year on that in of itself. New metal is OK Keeping it Alive like Judest Priest still is. True Defenders of the Faith. No one can deny Slipknot Rammstein, Disturbed, Five Finger Death punch awesome and 7fold Of course there are so much more I missed Like stabbing westward or Helmet and Chevelle 90' s had a like of nuance type rock for TV shows but you have you work cut out for ya. Congratulations Your getting there. The last one most important Christian Metal Lots of Great stuff there Too in Time you will see. Just like Megadeth Korn smashing pumpkins all had a life awakening started with Alice Cooper. If you want The answer thought, there are tens of thousands of rabbits track's but only one track leads to the way your supposed to go, the road your supposed to take. Depends how long you chase rabbit tracks and the rabbit holes. One Band comes to mind and you'll thank me later ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-20N9_JsVJ_0.htmlsi=CtLMvCVdhapDatNr

Nice call on Sweet Home Alabama. Their original lead guitar player (Dave Mustaine from Megadeth) jokingly played Sweet Home Alabama and Lars loved it so they kept it in the song.

I grew up in a house where I wasn't allowed to listen to rock. My parents got dicorced and my new step brother was a big rock guy. This was the first rock song I heard pulling a random CD out of his case of 100. I looked at the song titles on the back and, being the little Christian boy I was, I saw this title and thought of the rapture, so I listened. Been a rock fan since. Many things have changed about me but this song takes me back.

thank you for making me revisit this one! I was very late to the party when I heard this in the 90's when a friend of mine made me a "best of MetallicA" tape and I liked this one! and from time to time I listened to the album after but, today I felt I liked it even more! don't know why? anyway! thanks again! suggestion Mondays eh? how about a band called Everything Everything with their "No reptiles" song? (maybe you've heard it? they're an English art rock band from Manchester) that song was hooked into my hears for days when I discovered them in 2016! plus that whole album (Get To Heaven) is amazing! love the band too! but it's VERY different from metal and more on the side of Radiohead sometimes! don't know what you would think of it? 🤔they're thinking outside of the box for sure! have fun!🙂

Funny story about this album. Around the time when this record was released, Sebastian Bach of Skid Row was in a record store. Skid Row had not yet met with the popularity they would have in a couple of years, and no one knew who Metallica was outside of the Bay area yet. So he's looking at albums and he picks this one up and looks at it. Metallica has their pictures on the back and Sebastian said, "These are the ugliest musicians known to man. I have to buy this."

My second concert was Metallica on Ride the Lightning, so Kill 'Em All was key in developing my metal ear in the early '80s. Four Horsemen is awesome, Jump in the Fire, No Remorse, Phantom Lord ... a ton of winners. Thanks for the reaction.

The "B" solo in the slower section sounds like that because Kirk recorded two variations of that solo. They couldn't decide which one they liked better, so they used both, hence two guitars at the same time. Personally I prefer the one on the left channel. You can pan right and left and hear each.

A highlight of their live box set, Binge & Purge, is this song performed in San Diego. During the middle eight when the new riff is introduced, Lars leaves one drum set and runs across the stage to another one, just in time to come back in to the song. It was pretty cool.

Great reaction to another amazing song! And yes that Sweet Alabama riff in the middle that’s exactly where someone in the group came up with that riff idea, from the song “Sweet Home Alabama.” That’s why you were able to compare, cause it sounds like it. This album is magnificent. Trust me the next song from this album I very highly suggest is “Seek And Destroy.” Trust me you don’t want to miss it. Hope you have a great day! 🤘🤘
