@@jonaslocao1690 nah that's because mef screamed at the same time but let's be honest... when gza says "Wu-Tang Clan off the head rhyme" that was fire man
Arsenio did more singlehandedly to push Hip Hop forward than any one particular person you can name. That love they were showing him at the end was genuine
@@vel2118 nah Twista (known as Tung Twista) came out in ‘91. He was the first to really raise the bar with that fast rhyming flow. Groups like Naughty by Nature and The Beatnuts actually dissed him for that, but would later spit the same way. 😂🤣
Why Do I keep coming back to this every year. You can't touch this era, Hip Hop will never be the same again. I remember the Self Destruction record, that was a proud time in Hip Hop!🔥
This video a big smile on my face. Rap Music owes Arsenio a huge debt of gratitude because at the time he was the ONLY show allowing and showcasing Rap Music. These lyricist are the pillars of the Golden Age of Hip Hop. Originality, lyrics, vocal clarity, delivery and presence.
Yo MTV raps has something to say about that, they did spring break shows and showcases of artists and groups. A tribe called quest had their own take over along with all those old school hiphop acts. Paramount streaming just put up alot of old yo MTV raps from the 90s avalable to stream
@@christianterrill3503 Not taking anything away from Yo. That show had a tremendous impact on Rap Music and Hip Hop culture on national level. Prior to that Video Music Box, Graffiti Rock and even Soul Train. Even though Don C hated Rap Music, considered it a fad and had had live acts very rarely. However all of those shows with the exception of Soul Train were on cable, paid service or local access. Arsenio was nationally syndicated, on a network, night show. No one else was giving the music and the culture that level of exposure. Arsenio also had the real MCs (Rakim, Heavy D, KRS, PE, Tribe, Ice T, NWA, Kool G Rap, Run DMC, etc).
I will say that as a late 80s baby, this is so awesome to see. The OG legends coming together and drop dope ass performances and show so much love to Arsenio. GZAs almost fade in with the lyrics and then the crowd when he flashed the Wu was so fuckin sick.
I was speechless from the beginning.... I was Not ready for this. This is like a dream come true. Not just the art, but the chill and united environment. The 90's truly was the golden era of Hip- Hop.
Gregory white hell yeah I miss the real hip hop music back in the 90 it was fun and good now we have the new garbage shirt out now I don't play any of that stuff today i will always be the real 90 hip hop for life
this is what UK Drill is today. outstanding talents all over the place, crazy beats, high quality performance and production. UK Drill today is what US hip hop was in the 90s.
The most epic hiphop show of hip hop legends ever seen! Arsenio was original and fearless as a talk show host, and the best ever! Salute and respect always! And I love how KRS1 and ODB summed it up in the end, The Black Man is God💯‼️7️⃣💪🏾🏆👑✡️🤴🏿⚡️☄️
I was 15 in 94 and I'm just seeing this now September 4, 2021. I started imagining what I missed at my teens. Funny thing is, I know these rap stars. RIP to the ones who're dead. Guru rest easy bro
Yo this memory right here is crazy!!! Wow we didn't truly know how good we had it until it was over!...This was A Magnificent time and place to be present!💯✊🏾✌🏾🔥👊🏿💯💙😎
since i don't see anyone answering the question about the instrumental it is a beat made special for the performance by the legendary Pete Rock. he would revisit the beat (and touch it up) for The LOX and "It's Like That", released in 2008. Bob James "Nautilus" sample
+J. Ekberg Actually, the roots of the beat run way earlier than that. It appears to be an early stripped back version of Sun Won't Come Out, off The Main Ingredient released in '94 (the same year as the Arsenio Hall finale). Same drums and everything, just the LP version has a few more added layers and low ends.
Arsenio's show was groundbreaking for the time!! No other talk show host at the time or before him allowed Hiphop artists to perform on their shows not until he started giving them exposure!
Just black voices in general. No one treated that many black folks from all forms of entertainment and culture on mainstream TV. Its why MTV started Yo MTV Raps, and opened the door for Living Color, Fresh Prince, Family Matters, Living SIngle. Arsenio and (sadly) Cosby's empire of TV shows changed TV forever even though black voices would be greatly reduced into the late 90s and 2000s. The early 90s was a highwater mark for not just black faces on white made shows, instead, POC on shows produced by POC. HUGE difference.
When hip hop was everything and everyone sounded different. Throughout the entire performance not only was I jumping and bobbing my head but every last one had my attention
I moved to Brooklyn in 1995, and was already a hiphop fan, what a time! Heaven. Id just wander around, listen to the street sounds and Hit 97, and buy mixtapes from people on the street. And respect to Arsenio Hall for putting HipHop on TV! There was such a backlash against it back in the day. Long live Hip Hop ❤
WOW can ya'll imagine the adrenaline of seeing something like this in its beginning stages!!! like this must have made the day for every kid growing up fascinated by this new genre/era! this was the next biggest thing after the 80's music!
Darryl L Nelson The first rap I heard on a song was, George Duke, on a song called "reach for it" and it came out in 1977, and George Duke is from California...the first commercial rap song that came out of New York was, Rappers Delight, and it came out in 1979. Jus saying......
I think nobody else has received this much respect from such a fine line-up of MC's... Names that more than 15 years later still have legendary status. Biggest allstar cast I've seen ever.
SMH so sad this era is over!!! Man ol man!! Now this is love & HipHop at an all time high! This is the era in which I grew up in, Realness!! RIP to Guru&ODB! This was phenomenal!! To all my true HIPHOP heads yall feel me!! Word!! 90s we miss u!! Seghye Stroud
I'm around 20 years old and only listen to real hiphop (mostly West Coastgangsta rap/East Coast hiphop from the 90's). But i know a lot of new school artists you will like and i can give you 10 songs: 1 Joey Bada$$ - hazeus view 2 Joey Bada$$ - papar trails 3 Joey Bada$$ - waves 4 Joey Bada$$ - big dusty 5 Big Krit - soul food 6 Kendrick Lamar - poetic justice 7 Kendrick Lamar - hiiipower 8 J.Cole - fire squad 9 J.Cole - crooked smile 10 Ludacris - problems
+BlackMvp10 check out goldlink, waldo, lonny x, vince staples, king los just to name a few. there is so much great new hip hop out there. you just need to know where to look.
Never seen this before and it brought an emotional joy. That teary eyed feeling with a knot in your throat haha damn. 3:07 hit. Just thinking about all these dope bar hitting MCs. Makes one really appreciate the culture
Damn that takes you way back to my college days. And my cross color outfits that I used to wear. I remember my mom watching this arsenal Hall episode with me and my sister and my other brothers he was off the hook. And my mom was dancing to this music. That's why I love about my people's music The older generations can groove to it also. Hip hop truly transcends our people's culture and way of life throughout all time!!!
Q Tip's outfit perfectly sums up my jr n sr years in High School dress code lol RIP PHIFE & GURU & ODB & YES I saw the original airing of this bacc n my day
