Just a couple of observations for anyone trying to learn about hip rotation from this video. I would respectfully suggest that trying to replicate Rory’s hip / pelvic rotation will not be possible for almost all of us. Rory’s hip and pelvic rotation significantly stalls mid downswing allowing his arms and upper body to ‘match up’ and sequence his impact. This is not something he tries to do consciously, it’s a swing ‘motor control’ pattern he’s ‘naturally’ developed and had from being young and is near impossible to learn or teach. It’s almost certainly why he mentions in the video that he’s “never had to think about or work on hip rotation”, it’s inherent in his swing. Oh, and working in an office doesn’t give you “tight hips”, I don’t know where Rory picked this up from but it’s pseudoscience and one of many ‘medical myths’ out there.
Sitting for long periods of time can also restrict blood flow to the muscles around your joints, leading to hip tightness and even pain when trying to stand. First result from google
Very interesting! I always thought he’s a left side dominant player just by looking at his swings. Another example of how feel vs real can be so different. Will try this out and see how it feels. Thank you Rory for sharing as always! 🙏
I was checking out his grip. His is pretty neutral, from what I can see. Looks like 1 to 1 1/2 knuckles showing on the left hand. Working on brining my grip closer to neutral (2 1/2 knuckles showing). Helping with the release on my driver... much easier than a strong grip.
Whenever I try to turn my hips, my right shoulder drops and I end up hitting behind the ball. And when I'm not hitting behind the ball, I think my hands are getting out in front of me and I end up pushing the ball to the right. So, I end up standing very straight and end up using mostly my arms without much of a turn at all. I'm 57 and need to fix this.
Besides the hip mobility / rotation issues ... the REAL bomb here is Rory telling us he uses his RIGHT side (hand, arm, elbow, etc.) to CONTROL and apply power to his swing! This busts miriads and miriads of "pull with your left side", "don't use your right hand", etc etc etc. of WRONG golf teachers and instructors, all over the world and all over the time!
If this video wasn't enough check out padraig harrington channel here on utube. He's got a at least one if not two videos on how to move your hips/pelvis in the golf swing.
Hip motion "has always been natural"? Sure you just automatically have very deep hips that flex and move at very specific angles 😂. Golfers are constantly being lied to. He has practiced some very detailed moves with a coach. If you look at his swing when he was 15 to now. Its not the same and its definitely NOT his "natural" move! Golf instruction is a joke
If Rory’s hip rotation has always came naturally to Rory perhaps it should us as well. The fact is Gary Players taught us that the hip rotation occurs secondary to the direct acting of our stomach and oblique muscles. Use your naval area 100 percent of the time as Rory does and Players teaches and your hip rotation will come naturally to you as well. Guaranteed! Cheers 😃⛳️👍
GOLF beats the crap out of the body. I hit 65 and it all broke loose. Now 65 I am getting a hip replacement in a month. Looking at knees very soon after? Look at Jack and his replacement. Lee Trevino. I'm not sure how many more. And my wife says golf is not a sport!
What I've observed, and have actively been noting for the last few months is that some of the best players don't turn their hips alot on the back swings. more shoulders, and if anything, their hips do the least amount of turning during the back swing. I wonder if that is a big part of getting to the top of your swing properly for a good downswing
@@constantexpected I have actively noted the same, without making a chart. Charts are not at all as important for actively noting things as they are made out to be.
Senior instructor asking Rory about how we can hit it like “HIM”. No wonder the golf world is confused. Try hitting like Rory if you are under 30 and work out daily- Maybe bit takeaway is right sided concepts and feels…
What I've learnt after a few decades of swing golf clubs is : Don't rotate your hips but get your lower body cleared out the way to allow your hands and and club approach the golf ball. And as Rory said, move everything of the right side of your body through the golf ball.
I realised today that as I worked on the rest of my swing, I’d lost the hip rotation that I naturally had. I put in some proper hip rotation and found I gained distance and consistency
Rory's vocalized swing thought does not match his actual swing move. Rory did not talk about how he actually squats into his left glute as he unwinds from the top. Also, Rory makes zero mention of actually first squatting into his left side (while simultaneous shifting /moving his left hips toward the target while lowering his right hip and raising the left hip. I guess his move is so natural that he doesn't even understand how to articulate exactly what it is that he's doing.
@@CSqrdX Or perhaps visually, in all the videos of Rory’s swing that I’ve analyzed over the past 12 years Rory is, in fact, doing exactly as I’ve described and perhaps because it’s so natural for him (and Uniquely him alone) that he doesn’t actually feel what I describe seeing and therefore perhaps Rory actually does not feel himself squatting and then bumping his left glute into his left side toward the target. 🤷🏽♂️ I don’t know what Mcilroy Swing videos you’ve been watching over the past 10-12 years but, I can identify at least 5 Popular and Respected PGA Golf Instructors who in the past have discussed Rory’s squat move. In fact, it’s the exact same squat move that was once executed by one of Rory’s swing models/idols: The G.O.A.T., Eldrick Tiger Woods. 🤷🏽♂️ Proof is in the facts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LoLhumRB9kU.html
Maybe you are Mad because what u have analyzed is actually not what he is doing and maybe all of u so call swing analysis or off basis . He said he is right side dominate and that explains why he does what he does .
@@lawrencecooper9340 Mad? 🤦🏾♂️ Maybe I’m right and you’re wrong. Maybe you shouldn’t be so bold hiding behind your keyboard talking trash on the Internet. Maybe you should review my previous comment and click on the link that I sent, carefully review the video link that I sent which fundamentally 100% supports my original Comment and my subsequent follow-up Comment. Maybe you Mad 😡 and upset because a confident strong opinionated black man disagrees with you. 🤔 Maybe you suffer from privileged white male syndrome. Maybe you mad and upset because in the year 2045 white folks will be the minority demographic in the United States. Maybe you upset because Obama, a Black man, was elected twice as POTUS. Maybe you MAD 😡 because 90% of the NBA consists of African-Americans. Maybe you upset because Tiger Woods, a black man has demonstrated that he’s a superior golfer than Jack Nicholas. Maybe you upset the majority of the NFL consists of Black men. I could go on and on but I’ll just suggest you to go back and read my last comment and click on the link you ignorant mofo. Now take your ass whipping like a man and run home to mama so she can rub some alcohol on your wounds. Finally, I don’t believe neither you nor Rory understand what the term “right side dominate” means. Regardless of whether he’s right side dominant or left side dominant it has nothing to do with what he does with his hips and his glutes when he starts his downswing. For the record Phil Mickelson is left-handed also known as “left side dominant” but Phil plays golf right-handed you idiot. What else you got for me Lawrence Cooper? 🤔
Everything you said could be right, but what do you expect him to tell you with something he doesn’t even feel? We all know feel vs real is different, but that doesn’t mean feel is not important. What he feels is what works for him, if he loses that feeling he’s gonna struggle with his swing. What you feel will be different from what he feels, you can feel exactly like he does but your body might does something totally different. Appreciate what he shares and just try it out yourself, and if it doesn’t work for you simply move on to something else.
