I cannot thank you enough for this video. I too went back to the hire centre due to ripping through papers, the guy manslplained to the woman how it’s because paint, I explained mate - they aren’t in long enough to get clogged but he was adamant! I asked if it was the tension or the screws and he insisted it was my stupid fault painting 🙄 Then he didn’t want to sell me more sheets and told me to go elsewhere as they’d be cheaper. Three stores later and none to be found other than online which wouldn’t arrive in time. Went back, got another salesman who was actually really helpful and replaced my sanpaper and gave me a couple fine ones to try too. I had a feeling it was tension or screws but now I’ve got a piece of sandpaper stuck in the back of the drum so will need to take the underneath off and clear out before I can start again. Thank you, really, thank you. Now my tears of frustration have dried I will try again ♥️
Christ. You made a 40 minute video on how to use a floor sander. What an absolute saint of a man you are. Every 30 seconds there was some new information I’d never even considered. Unbelievably grateful to find this - thank you so much 👌👌👌
Thank you so much for this!! I've just been through 3 sheets of paper breaking before even touching the floor and I couldn't understand why. Appreciate it 👍
Mate you’re a life saver. Almost went crazy busting 7-8 belts and wasting half a day before finding this video. I think for me it was just tightening the hell out of those screws. Didn’t break a single sheet after that. Oh my goodness what a relief.
I do hardwoof floor over here in USA LA CA, thats heavy longs hrs bro, I used to used a drum(belt) sander now I use a bona power drive a bit slower but I get clouser to the walls, that saves me lots of work with the edger. 👏👏👍 im sure your floor turn great as your repair bro...
I bet you have better machines in the USA. The floor sander in the video is ubiquitous in the UK and looks like it was designed in the 1960s. The last time I went to the USA I spent hours at Harbor Freight..You have no idea how poor the hardware stores in the UK are. Thanks for watching. Good luck with the flooring.
I can not thank you enough right now! I hired the same bundle from the same place yesterday! We ripped through 4 sand paper strips before watching this video and had the scorch mark issue as well! Its going a lot smoother now (touch wood 😂) thankyou, so so much 👍
Hi Emma, I had the same experience. My guess is that the hire shops assume that you will find out the hard way and by doing so make you pay for more sanding pads than you need. A laminated A5 instruction leaflet attached to the machine would save a lot of anguish. Glad you found it useful. Good luck with the floor.
Great video, yes the first sheet, bang. Then had to think through the tension on the drum to keep the leading edge under a tight grip. Life is for learning! Thank you
I work for a hire company and the exploding paper bag is a real problem. I always recommend to customers that you can use an old pillow case and you can empty it when it's full
Interesting. I had one bag let go when I whacked it. Filled the whole room with choking dust in seconds. Hmm our bags were not a problem. Must be something to do with the bag quality.
Thank you for the extra detail about tightening the bar securing the sanding pad. I shredded 3 sanding pads (at $4 each unfortunately) before finding your video emphasizing making the screws on the bar good and tight. After that, all went smoothly.
You are welcome. I should have mentioned that you can stop after a couple of minutes and tighten the screws. I don't know why they don't make the screws allen or torx heads. Please remember to like and subscribe.
Great news. It had me stumped for while. Goodness knows why they don't fit hex socket machine screws. Good luck with the sanding, may there be no divots in your floor!! Like and subscribe if you can. please...
Quick question please. What floor area would you get per sanding disc? For both the HT8 and the H7 edge sander? If you could give me a rough idea, thanks. Great video!
Hi Liam,, the floor in the video was 9M x 3M and was Canadian Pine softwood. It had a layer of hard varnish on top and some areas had to go down by 2mm to remove all the dinks and scratches. I ruined about 4 belts before I realised what the problem was. I got 10 large belts in 80 grade and 5 in 120 grade. I have 2 left of each. The round disks I got 10 disks. I cant remember the grade of these but I think they were 120 grit. I don't have any of those left. It is an irregular room with about 25M of skirting. I used a multi-tool with sanding triangular bit to get right into the corners and around and between pipes. I used about 15 sanding pieces for that.I bought a pack of 50 from eBay., Good luck.
Why does this video loop around and start again? :p I was hoping for some advice if the sander is uneven - doesn't seem to lay flat even on a very flat floor - any suggestions?
So I’ve rented this sander and it’s a disaster! I think maybe the bar holding the sand paper in place might be bent because I can’t screw it down on one side tight enough that it lies flush with the drum. So when I tried to sand it left a gouge line in my floor!!
