The labeling of the photos got mixed up during post. Either way, the intent of the video was to show the video preset differences, not the console differences.
Decided to try the U9DG when Best buy had 1499 flash sale. The update for it brought it up a level motion and gaming wise which alot of people complained about. Going to go head to head with my 65 U8G to see brightness/contrast/blooming difference.
In my testing on this, I use the Text Clarity option in all cases. I suppose if you're not looking at small text at all, you might not even notice the difference, but I'm really OCD and dealt with the fuzzy text for months so I might be a bit biased. It really seems to be a loss in resolution, so I don't see a lot of reason to use anything other than the text clarity preset. You're right, you need to look at the pixels themselves to notice clearly. I sit about 2 feet from my TV which I use as a monitor, so I'm really prone to seeing it all the time.
At that distance I can see how it would make a huge impact for sure! I’ve been using the picture setting solely for the bump in hdr saturation; however, I moved over from series x to ps5 for Fortnite and notice a smaller loss in hdr on ps5, so I’ll probably switch to text clarity now.
I’ve been waiting for a video like this. Thanks for taking the time to make it. I’ve had my eye on the U8G for a long time but I think I’m just going to wait for the U8H to drop and see if this full 4K/120Hz issue finally gets perfected. I do appreciate that Hisense is making an effort to accommodate existing users though. Cheers!
I’m eager to see what the H series brings because honestly I find every MiniLED that has come out has had blooming issues, and as much as I love what Hisense does with their panels… I’m hesitant with the idea that they’ll be the ones to perfect MiniLED. Time will tell.
@@qwazyd0gg I recently returned a Bravia X90J because of the blooming. I didn’t realize I was so sensitive to it. I really don’t want to jump to an OLED to solve all of my gaming issues, but I gotta ditch this X900H for gaming. I’m missing too many necessary features. (sigh)
It seems like every panel has at least one downfall until you pass the $2000+ mark, which is a shame rn. I can live with the small faults in the U8G for the cost savings for sure (Slight motion blur, and resolution trade off as shown in this video).
I haven’t actually pursued an update since the M04 update since it’s been so rock solid and the M07 introduced flickering in 120hz. Maybe I’ll look into it further and do an update video on it 😀
i got M0801 on Thursday OTA for my U78G and it is working very well using on my PC with a 6700XT video card. You can not have full local dimming with freesync/VRR enabled In HDR Game mode. Prior to this update if freesync/VRR was enabled local dimming was greyed out, on PC. It worked correctly on console.
I’m not sure tbh. I unfortunately lost my key contact at Hisense Canada, and every attempt to rekindle communication has been left unanswered. I’m still running the firmware as of my last update video on both my 88 and 78G.
That doesn’t really make sense though considering this is their active model with no replacement yet on the market. They’ve already released beta M06 with official M07 on its way…
Ive been testing with HDR games lately, and for some reason the image quality option makes the image look darker, and crushes blacks in dark scenes. But text clarity option has way better shadow detail and is brighter overall, but looks somewhat washed out in comparison with raised blacks (more gray). Colors are not as rich in text preset as well. Hard to decide which to use :(….btw this is on series x
I personally got more use to the muted colours than I did the sharpness issues. Plus color can be brought back in game with sliders either in game or console options.
@@qwazyd0gg yea i bumped up color to compensate for washed out/dull color look with text clarity turned on. I do love that blacks are not crushed now using this option, but it seems like hdr does take a hit, because you can tell shiny objects in game look more dull somewhat, less accurate contrast i suppose. I did notice this difference in brightness, from pic quality vs text clarity toggle, only when my console is set for 4k/120. But when i force my series x to 4k/60….toggling the setting makes no difference but atleast black crush doesnt exist like in 120 mode for pic quality. Leads me to believe U8G has issues still w 4k 120 in terms of incorrect gamma curve or somethin. Plus i dont see the traces of ghosting when forcing console to do 60 instead of 120 fps. Ill leave my console on 60 then unless i want to play a game that does support 120 at this point.
I haven’t received a new update since the M04 series as it’s been super rock solid. The M07 was rumoured to introduce flickering which I wanted to avoid. I may get the new update and test it out.
@@qwazyd0gg yeah I've been waiting over a month for them to finally release it OTA and I finally got so I'm just wondering as to which setting to use when using hdr and or Dolby vision gaming and all that
Hello Qwazyd0gg, I've been watching a lot of your videos and have a question for you. I just ordered the U8G 65" and am expecting to receive it on Friday. Should I update the TCON first and latest update second (or vice versa) or will it do both at once?
I beaten 50+ games on a u8g(fallout 3 to shadow of Colossus to avengers to Tales of...) I used to build Pc's in the VOODOO 2 days. Ive got the eye that can tell the difference between 60 and 55 fps. 120 to 100. just a lifetime problem shooting and tweaking settings. Im almost certain the "Picture quailty" mode is a lowered res from 4k with a upscale and maybe sharpen/contrast filter. playing ps4/ps5 games and PC games and switching back and forth between the 2 settings, just seems "Text clarity mode" is FULL FAT 4k. which is weird you'd think vice versa. BTW I HATED this panel until the update that allowed 4k/120hz, the first 8 months that wasn't possible. now im VERY happy and im picky.
After the 0422 update the image is now looking washed out when I’m on 120hz almost like it was in 1080p this is so weird and even the blue ghosting issue that I have since I bought my U88g haven’t disappeared except for those two problems this tv is a beast but hisense need to bring better updates to there customers because this could be a deal breaker ill wait until I’m near the end of my warranty to see if future updates fixes those issues…fingers crossed
I use the exact same Apple TV and connection and haven’t noticed an issue. I use Theatre Night HDR, SDR, and Dolby Vision IQ without any noticable concerns and without using any motion processing.
Much appreciated man. Honestly, I mess up from time to time, but I keep everything uploaded for the rest of the information within the videos and just for the genuine nature of the channel. Thank so much for your kind words and support!
Hey Qwazyd0gg, I have a quick question about HDR settings: I looks like Amazon Prime defaults their content like the new Terminal List to HDR. Even when I turn on vivid mode and back light 100 in HDR, the picture is still so dark. Is there a way to brighten the picture without washing it out? I am fully updated with firmware. Thanks so much for your content!
Are you using the smart tv feature or an external player. I recently watched Terminal List on my Apple TV in theatre dark hdr, which is a darker hdr setting, and hadn’t noticed any color or highlight crush. I’ll give it a go in the smart tv to see if I notice any difference.
@@qwazyd0gg Yes, I watch on my Hisense (Smart TV). I have have no external player other than my DVD player. It looks fine at night but during the day, it's really dark and the sun doesn't even hit the TV directly. And... Like I said, I even have the TV set for Vivid HDR mode. Crazy
It has continued to be my main panel. Blacks are exceptional and there is VERY little blooming compared to other backlit solutions. I believe there are dedicated bloom videos on RU-vid; however, the large volume of FALD zones do a great job at controlling output.
Honestly that’s a tough one. I’m a size junkie, and the U7 isn’t far from the U8. Plus the U8 55” doesn’t support the TCON update, so I would do 65” U7
Did you mix up the consoles? Most of the time when you're talking about PS5 the game is showing Xbox controller buttons, and Playstation buttons when you're talking about Xbox.
@@qwazyd0gg well i mean, not that amazing of a catch to be fair. Just sticks out seeing triangle and square buttons and the like when talking about Xbox lol (to me at least). But thanks for making this video! Was pretty informative, and it's nice to see someone trying their best to keep the Hisense community up to date. My only other suggestion/request would be to analyze an HDR game, because if I'm not mistaken, Fortnite doesn't actually support HDR. (If I'm wrong on that, someone can correct me. But that's what it seems like from my searching, also doesn't activate for me...) So it'd be cool to see a deeper analysis like this with something proper HDR, especially since that's what seemed to be messed up the most before in 120hz, at least on the last firmware. But in any case, really enjoyed the video, and your overall demeanor -- so thanks! Keep it up, cheers :)
So what’s funny is on the XSX hdr will not toggle, even with auto hdr on, which is said for force hdr onto pretty much everything. On the ps5, it loads right up into HDR Game mode on the Tv and ALLM with VRR all still function as well. I’m not sure if the console is forcing fake hdr or not; however, on the ps5 it at least engages the tv to handshake hdr mode within the input settings. I low key only switched to ps5 for party chat with my group, but since switching have noticed it’s a lot clearer than my Xbox was and the colors are also more vibrant. I had a viewer once comment saying there appears to be a potential handshake issue with the hdr processing on Microsoft, both windows and XSX, which causes the duller tones in text clarity mode that are not as prominently apparent on the ps5. Could just be personal takes per user though, and I honestly have no analytical data to support either or… I just know text clarity has a tighter pixel render accuracy and picture quality mode, which was the main purpose of this video 😅
@@qwazyd0gg That's interesting about the HDR in Fortnite. I'm not really sure what's going on with it either, i saw a few others online mention similar things. Also why i didn't dare claim to be 100% certain lol. But that's all niether here nor there... i appreciate the detailed response, and the video for its main purpose!
I hasn’t aware of that issue, but I also just got my U7G last month and haven’t used it a ton. I didn’t get any OTA for it for any M series firmware; however, I did sideload M0422 into it and find it pretty accurate.
Quick question. I just got this TV (the 55" version) and I'm having issues accessing the Dolby Vision settings in Vudu. Everything else I can go in and turn off the motion cleanness etc, but in Vudu when it goes into Dolby Vision and I go into the menu it automatically turns off Dolby vision so I can't access those settings. Is there a way to get into those settings?
We don’t have Vudu where I live, so it’s nothing I can personally test it. I imagine you’re using the built in app, which should keep the Vision settings when accessing the side menu. Have you tried an external player to see if the issue persists?
@@qwazyd0gg I have a new player coming in soon and I'll probably just use that. I was using the built-in player and unlike Netflix once you go into the menu it automatically disables Dolby Vision and goes to the regular picture settings. Smart 4k player should fix that, at least in theory.
@@qwazyd0gg with the dedicated player I know have access to all of the settings so the issue has been resolved. The issue actually resolved itself after a few days by itself as I checked everyday and now vudu is playing the Dolby Vision content without the motion smoothing.
It's weird because so many people on other videos have reported getting the update already. I know they only push out a handful a week over a long period of time. For me, my U7G has yet to even get the first M series update, so I just sideloaded it myself with a file sent in from the social media team.
