Hi bro, I have the config in the Xbox vrr off, and freesync on, on the tv and with this config i can use the local dimming but I don't know if the vrr freesync it's running well too. Do you know if this config runs with vrr freesync, or not? Thanks 🙏
If variable refresh rate is off on the Xbox, then your source (console) is not sending the VRR signal to your tv. This is more than likely why LD is still enabled as the TV isn’t actually processing any VRR data
@@qwazyd0gg thanks I just heard something about the HDMI 2.1 has by default vrr, I think is the best option because if I activate freesync, this turn off the local dimming.
Glad I found this guy. I really enjoyed my tv for games but not so much for movies due to motion and some blooming. With this update the tv is much better with those 2 issues
Hogwarts legacy showcases how essential this feature really can be. This game gives you the option to uncap the frame rate. You can run fidelity mode (normally capped at 30fps w/ a 4k target and med/high graphical settings) and see a mostly locked 90fps using vrr on the series x (amd freesync) and enabling freesync on your tv. What's even better is stacking hdr10 on top of that with local dimming on high and suddenly you have a gorgeous dynamic 4k 90fps hdr experience on a $500 console. That's a major advantage to someone without freesync on their TV. Otherwise uncapping the frame rate makes the game a stuttery experience without vrr. I wish more games gave you the option to uncap your frame rate.
wow thx for this video! i have u8g and always thought to have the vrr working i had to have the tv free sync on but thats not the case. really cool stuff
Can you try this on your PC? I want to buy this tv for my PC, I have multiple monitors, and when I turn off g-sync/free-sync on my monitors, the options for VRR goes away on my Nvidia Control Panel. It just disappears. Same thing on my PS5, when I connect to a monitor that I turned free sync off, my PS5 shows “my display does not support VRR”
If it’s a multi monitor setup in a setup with one device only supporting hdmi 2.0, then only Freesync will work for vrr due to operating on the limitations on the lowest quality connection. As for the ps5, I have Freesync off on the TV and VRR is working fine in all supported titles
I have hisence u7h , if i turn off game mode will the vrr work on ps5? Because in my tv i can ONLY turn of freesync when the game mode is on when , even then the local dimming is not working , the only time local dimming works is when i turn off game mode , any suggestions?
I didn’t work for me.. on the ps5 at. I disabled free sync on the TV but when changing the local dimming connected to the ps5, it doesn’t have any effect
Might be limited by the input your in on the tv. You need to turn on enhanced hdmi for each port independently to unlock most of the additional capabilities
Wow you're so right. It worked on Xbox series X for me even on M0210, of course no active contrast yet. Then I'm confused, what does Freesync actually do? What is it for if the VRR actually works without turning on "Freesync"?
They’re essentially the same. Hdmi VRR is more or less a clone of standard variable refresh rate, where Freesync is AMDs brand of the same tech. Freesync came well before hdmi 2.1 and can be used by those with an hdmi 2.0 connection on an AMD gpu (game console or pc) with either hdmi 2.0 or 2.1; whereas hdmi VRR is only found on hdmi 2.1.
Hey there, great video. 1 question though but related to audio. my TV and or my denon receiver randomly power off while watching say netflix from the built in Android. Have you heard of this before?
Is there a flashing red light or green light on the Denon. If so then it may be going into protect mode from heat. If not, try turning off power CEC on the receiver and TV.
You can leave freesync off, and as long as you have instant game response on and are using an hdmi 2.1 source, then hdmi 2.1 level vrr will engage automatically while still allowing for local dimming
thanks a lot for the great video, just a question, i want to get a new tv and i’m really considering the Hisense u8g since the price-value ratio sounds great, but the one we have in my country is called u8gq, so would you recommend it for ps5 gaming? and can it really run 4k @ 120hz? (btw i live in the middle east😅😁)
This model only supports hdmi 2.0b in your region, so it will max out at 4K/120 or 1440p/120hz for any external device. Although it does offer a native 120hz panel, it can only be used in full by streaming apps built into the TV :(
@@qwazyd0gg thanks for clearing the difference and replying quickly , i think i’d go with the LGb1 since it is almost of a similar price of the u8gq in my country,ik it’s not as good as the c1 but still a very good choice i believe. What do u think? is it a good alternative?
There is one extra step within the ps5, which is enabling 120hz and VRR in game itself. Only certain titles support either/both 120hz and/or VRR. I have a video on console settings for the ps5, but the last step is enabling it in game in the in game settings.
@@GreenEggsAndGraham you made an assumption rather than *asking* the guy responding *kindly* to every post and then claim the video is clickbait when he clarifies in detail.. you're an ass.
So when I put Motion clearness on I’m losing local dimming is that supposed to happen ? Other thing is I’m using ug7 which is almost identical it even allowed me to do your manual update when you pressed down 4,,5 time w.e it was and it definitely helped but I’m still trying to maximize the tv
Do you still get the Low Frame rate Compensation with HDMI VRR?. Digital Foundry did a Video about the PS5 VRR. And they said that the PS5 doesn't compensate when below 48 fps. Games like Elden Ring routeinly go below that
I can’t remember the specs now, but hdmi 2.1 VRR was high to low 40s IIRC. Freesync was only lower by 5-6 frames though when I found the actual metrics
@@qwazyd0gg finally got it to work... Now the only odd thing is when I look at all the items that Xbox says in enabled on my TV, it says that Dolby Vision is limited to 60hz... Very odd!
I've been wanting to pull the trigger on a Hisense 55" U7G but I've been seeing a lot of comments about ghosting. Has any of the last couple updates fixed this?
I’m unsure on the u7g; however, I’ve been hearing a lot of improvements since M0422 on the 55” U8G. Both TVs share the same panel and processor, so I’m sure the results are similar too.
@@qwazyd0gg So while I've been back and forth on whether or not to get this TV, I woke up this morning and Amazon has the U7G on sale for $500. Now it was just a no-brainer.
@@qwazyd0gg It's funny how they works out. I've been back and forth on buying one, checking out every review I can, and the day I go to order one it went on sale for that much. It was meant to be I guess.
So all this time I've had these settings when playing my Series X, but my Active Contrast set to Off. Should I have this on? What's your recommendation?
It can be tedious for sure! Since I have my Switch, Xbox, and PS5 all in the same input since they’re all routed through my AVR, I just leave it on base HDR game with ALL color modifications turned off. It gives me the most universal look for everything spanning HDR, SDR, 4K, 1080P, and streaming content.
Great video. A little off topic, but does PS5 120hz VRR work on the U8g? Any chance of doing a video showing how well the U8g performs with 120hz VRR on the PS5? Im really considering getting this tv for gaming with the PS5 and would like to see how well it performs with 120hz VRR. Thanks.
Que tal amigo a mí me mandaron una actualización recientemente pero la mía dice MO801 la mía es una hisense u7g 75" ....!! Mi pregunta es cual actualización es mejor la MO422 o la MO801 ?
Hey! Does this work for the Hisense U7G Australian model? Because on the Aussie model there's people debating over if it has VRR and supports PC 4K 120Hz. Do you have any advice?
@@qwazyd0gg If it can do 1440p or surely 1080p@120hz , then is the hisense TV able to use AI to upscale the image in game mode? How would it compare to something like DLSS?
I haven’t played with the upscaling much on PC since my panel is used for my consoles and my H9G is my PC display; however, the U8 handles upscaling on the Switch very well. Depending on your GPU, (I believe it was called) DSR should also help clean up the 1080p feed alongside upscaling to give you a nice clean 1080p upscale.
@@qwazyd0gg i mean yea for netflix and stuff and streaming and all u see the diff with the color and all but not worth it for competitive gaming i think u need both for it to work maybe u dont notice it but im telling u way more laggy unplayable
Its strange because Freesync only synchronizes the high and low frames to make it smoother, and if anything may introduce a small amount of latency due to processing vs having it off
Hey bro, nice video. I have done everything in my 55u8h and have bough the power a hdmi and connected to port 4. The issue its showing me 3840x2160 -60 hz and not 120hz? I cant seem to fix it. Please i even subbed you brother.
Wait - I have a U8G and PS5. With FreeSync enabled - VRR and Local Dimming works. If I disable FreeSync - it will work however the color depth will drop from 10Bit to 8Bit. So with PS5 with U8G with FreeSync On has 120hz VRR Local Dimming working together
@@qwazyd0gg Let me know what you find out why PS5 is dropping bit depth when you enable and disable FreeSync. It's most apparent in Ratchet and Clank. There's also a difference in VRR refresh rate info between FreeSync On and Off. It looks like it does LFC when FreeSync is enabled with 120hz on
