Yeah for sure, it's also nice that a wider variety of new cards can see play there too. I tried Convoke in Timeless but the power level was just way too high for it to work.
Thank you for another great video! Great to see you come back to historic, but honestly, after timeless started as a format, historic no longer "click" for me. Guess i just want to play the most powerful cards, and historic just feels as a demo version of timeless now))) however, i recently began playing standart again, and i've been really enjoying switching between it and timeless. Increased cardpool made standart more interesting, at least for me. And it's a great change of pace if i want to play something less explosive then timeless. Anyway, thank you for your videos, i hope to see your updated titan list soon. And maybe some new decks for timeless!
Yoo thanks! Yeah I completely understand, the one issue with Timeless from a deckbuilding perspective is that the power level is so high that a lot of new cards like Kuldotha Rebirth aren't good enough to see play so Historic is a good place to utilize different new cards. Either way I'm definitely gonna be playing both formats and will have vids coming for both too. New Titan update should also be up in the next few days
I love the simple sideboards. This is what you want for this matchup. Too many times I see people having their sideboards just full of one of’s and it’s just not consistent to make a difference in the match
Fun to see you back in the non-timeless streets! Still keeping my eyes peeled for some explorer content (especially now that Pioneer is the format for the next pro season)! It feels like this deck can easily be transfered to explorer though, would you mind sharing your thoughts on cards to play there instead of esper sentinel and kuldotha rebirth? Maybe another side board also?
This is sick! I was playing a very similar version but with Obosh instead of Jegantha (replacing thopter and case with recruiter and patriar’s humiliation) and I’ve noticed the deck has a very good wizards matchup, especially with more removal post-board. Very cool to see some innovation in it.
Ahh nice yeah I tested some Obosh versions too but needing 3 mana for Recruiter was a bit rough, Ornithopter really helps the speed of the deck, and I was having to cut Obosh after sideboard quite frequently for 2 mana sideboard cards so I prefer the Jegantha version personally. I think Obosh makes a lot of sense if you're playing Recruiter though since you need more lands to be able to cast it, and therefore the companion is likely to come up more often because of the higher land count.
Great deck, would have thought explore combo would be a weak matchup due to magistrate just dying to 4 copies of bedeck? Would love to hear your thoughts
Yep! Got a few other Historic lists in the works with new cards that weren't powerful enough to work in Timeless so should have some more to come over the next couple of weeks
Outstanding content as usual. I think you need to post stuff more often to grow as much as you deserve. Why not do some deck breakdowns of already existing meta decks and play a few games? I feel like I'm learning so much whenever I watch you from how well and fast you can verbalize your thought process, you're super sharp.
Yoo thanks a lot, really appreciate that! I mainly focus on deckbuilding and trying to innovate so I don't like to cover pre-existing decks if I'm not bringing anything new to the table. It also takes a lot of playtesting to work on new brews/ ideas and refine them/ figure out if they're working or not so I feel like if I start covering pre-existing decks it'll take me a lot longer to come up with and refine new ideas if that makes sense. I have done video series in the past where I cover new ideas I'm working on that are solid but not top tier, and series where I record myself building a brand new deck from scratch which I plan to bring back soon which should lead to more regular uploads though!
You can really see why Explorer/Pioneer & Standard are struggling right now with this deck being so stupidly high powered that it even works here in historic. Amazing job.
Yoo thanks! I think Kuldotha Rebirth is the main card that really made this deck viable in Historic which isn't legal in those other formats, but the other tools like Case and Inspector have also been great additions so I'm not surprised it's putting in work in Standard/ Explorer too.
I have had success with this deck WITHOUT the convoke creatures, running Lurrus as a companion, Shrapnel Blast, and Pride of the Conquerors as a "top end." One sideboard card I'm loving in the grindy matchups is Assemble the Players, but this is a lot worse in the more traditional convoke decks because it can't hit the payoff creatures.
Will do! It's also the format where more new cards will be viable since the power level is a lot lower so it's easier to brew in when new cards are released.
