Diggle Diaries: An attempt to film all daylight running freight and interesting workings from Diggle Junction. Situated on the picturesque Trans-Pennine, Manchester to Huddersfield and Leeds route, Diggle Jn lies at the top of a steep incline leading into Standedge Tunnel. Providing beautiful scenery, varied freight and trains working hard up the hill, there aren’t many better places for a bit of trainspotting.
This month includes:
Class 40 D345 on the Geordie Whistler
Retro liveried Class 37's on RHTT
Amazing colours in golden hour for TPE
Belmont Class 66 gets its white gloves dirty
And much more...
Thanks for watching!

Hearing the 68 working hard reminds me of when we moved a few years back to our present location in Buckinghamshire, with the line out of Marylebone less than half a mile away. For the first two weeks I kept going out into the garden, looking into the skies expecting to see some '40s, 50's vintage aircraft before it dawned on me that it was the 68s going full chat past the village!

@DiggleJunction Год назад
That’s a great comparison, they really do sound like vintage aircraft! I certainly know I’ve missed a 68 when I hear that roar go past my window, so distinctive.

Amazing video there! This morning i saw that there were 2 37s running but i was too lazy to get up. Im not sure if it actually was 37s because railcam often gets ir wrong but it says that 37610 and 37612 ran

It surprises me how many 37s we actually get lol

some nice tractor class 37 action here i always seem to miss them or I hear them but can't see them! Nice to see d345 out & about! I live in Ashton-under-Lyne near the main line and I see the odd colas tug class 60 on the Drax power station runs! the class 68s sound good at power they thrash quite well for modern loco's nice video 🤩😍🥰

love the regional railway's liveries on 37219+425 nice to see them in the same livery at the same time! and the class 37s are my favorite locomotives as they stood the test of time and are one of the biggest surviving fleet of 1950s/60s locomotives that was ever built by british engineering by English electric!!! nice video 🤩😍🥰

Completely agree mate, great to still see such a relatively strong fleet of them. My absolute favourites too!

@@DiggleJunction i see the odd one or hear the odd one flying through Ashton-under-Lyne Station every few week or months as you cannot mistake that EE growl of there engines as you can hear them from at least a mile away before you see the beasts!!! 😎

Very nice shots there good quality and great selection. Enjoyed that. You got a real FL lash up going to Hope! That dog ruined the shot I agree, not a fan of dogs myself but oh well! Excellent stuff keep it up.

Cheers pal, got new top microphone now too so hopefully going forward there will be good sound to go with the shots. Some real odd ball workings in this one yeah, the first 45mph 7 code i've seen here as well at the end.
@CalderTrains

@@DiggleJunction the code 7 is Mendip Rail wagons going for scrap, I saw one a while ago. Vid is on here somewhere. Triple headed the one I saw. They seem to run at 60 instead of 45 but due to the wagons operate as class 7s.

Thanks so much for these videos I live in Saddleworth and have done all my life used to live in Diggle. Would you happen to know - how often are the points used (the ones you can see at 1.11 to the left of the red signal in the background) used to go from the Up Stalybridge line to the Down Huddersfield line and vise-versa? Are they something historic and not used in this day and age? I half thought they would be located with access to the loop but this isn't the case .. I seem to think Victoria - Stalybridge stopping trains ran dead to Diggle for a time and turned around here but I don't see how the layout of the junction in the present day would facilitate for that. Thanks for these amazing shots once again

Thanks for the comment Harry, always great to have locals watching. Surprisingly those points are still used although not very often and usually only when there's been some kind of incident. As the whole tunnel is one long section, it's the only cross over point between Stalybridge and the tunnel for single line ops. If you go back through my vids to the September Part 1 Diggle Diaries episode, you can see it being used after a train broke down near Mossley station blocking Down-Hudds for four hours!

@@DiggleJunction Hi there, awesome I will give it a watch! I did also imagine they would be mostly for emergency purposes rather then any timetabled service, passenger or freight - I am still surprised that the signal box is still operational and manned 24/7 to be honest - I thought it would be superfluous in this day and age with the long gone Micklehurst Line and masses of sidings around the former station/goods yard all history. I imagine the member of staff on duty doesn't have much to do but I'm not sure..!

@@harrybroughton942 I know what you mean, I’m sure it will be on borrowed time. Especially with the digital signalling currently being trialled on the route. I’m in conversation with Network Rail to try and get in and do some filming before it’s consigned to the history books.
