This may seem like an unusual request. But can you do a tutorial of what women from the Titanic (aka Edwardian, victorian era) wore their makeup during their stay on the ship? Or you can do a Victorian age era.
@speckybeccy
@speckybeccy 9 лет назад
The Victorian era may be a little bit tricky for her to do, as makeup was only for prostitutes and actresses (who were looked down upon back then). Although they used dozens of lotions and face creams to keep their skin looking white, and sometimes traced their veins with a blue pencil. The only makeup you would really see women on the Titanic wearing would be very light face powder, maybe eyebrow pencil and a tiny bit of rouge. :) (Sorry for rambling, I love makeup history!)
@Tengounsecreto231
@Tengounsecreto231 9 лет назад
Becc is right. This is why women in the Victorian era had those crazy huge undos. They couldn't wear makeup so the compensated with huge amounts of hair.
@bookwrm4evr
@bookwrm4evr 9 лет назад
Becc Edwards wow that's really interesting. In high school i took a fashion merch class & did a presentation of 30's fashion. I included the makeup, but my teacher got angry because he said makeup had nothing to do with fashion. I then found out makeup was a passion of mine because after gasping i made it a point to give my (unsolicited) opinion on why i thought it was. Lol needless to say i didn't get a good grade. I was surprised with myself because i wasn't one to speak up....then lol.

Lisa Eldridge has this series on her blog where she researches popular makeup looks from movies. For example, Clueless or Clockwork Orange. She interviews the makeup artist and writes about what inspired the famous looks and the exact makeup that was used. It's so fascinating! I would love to see you do something similar but in a video format. I know some youtubers recreate character looks but I love how thoroughly researched your historically accurate videos are so that would set your videos apart. This would be so much fun!

I love your historically accurate videos! You're beautiful in every decade....My grandmother was a young woman in the 30's, and for the rest of her life. at least into her 80's the only lipstick and nail color she wore was red. I always thought that was odd, because in everything else, her clothing and accessories she was very neutral and subdued. I guess she just picked up red as her classic shade and stuck with it for the next 50 years....I'll have to check my makeup bag and see what I've hung onto since the 80's!....Thanks for the fun video. - Pam

I totally relate. My mom and many other relatives of her generation or older pretty much stuck with red. Nail polish colors weren't as varied and red was classic. Their clothes were in basic colors as well so the biggest pops were the lips and nails. I miss that look, and many of the special women who wore red. :-)

I do makeup for my high school drama club, and my director tends to lean more towards period shows (i.e., Grease, Bye Bye Birdie, The Outsiders, Anything Goes, etc...). This spring is our production of Annie (cheesy, I know...), and she was extremely strict about makeup and nails, saying no eyeshadow, no lipstick, no brows, just foundation, heavy blush, and brown or black eyeliner-no wings (that she seemed to get right). As a die-hard nail polish girl and makeup queen, I took to the internet to prove her wrong and get my way. I simply showed her your video, and she promoted me to head of the makeup department and makeup consultant for further shows, since I'm a senior this year. I will use nothing but your videos for reference! Fantastic learning tool!

It's amazing how much you can learn about a time period just by studying the makeup trends. I would love to see 90's Clueless...that was my favorite movie when I was in middle school.
