I think Duke Berthold being overpowered is a product of the game's mechanics not really taking into account how fractured any given character's realm is. Even inflicting a control growth penalty to disconnected territory would really help.

I really wonder why the Hohenstaufen are depicted with black hair in the game, as their Blonde/reddish blonde hair is often mentioned. I also think, that having an additional county in Swabia called „Neckargau“ would be fitting for this dynasty, as that was somewhat the original region where they build their First castles. Maybe Paradox will flesh out these important characters one day.

The HRE seems to be fairly well-developed in terms of content in game. However, the complex structure (or rather utter mess) that the Holy Roman Empire was during the High Medieval Ages remains rather poorly explored. Jewish communities (which we’re numerous in the HRE) are missing almost completely missing. Cities in the HRE are no different from cities anywhere else, despite the effective independence the “freie Reichsstädte” (lit. free imperial cities) held and the special privileges the cities had. Among other things. I really hope a future DLC updates the HRE to better represent the complex structure of the empire. (Although realistically, considering how bare-bones large parts of the map, particularly India and the far-east, still are, we might need to wait a bit).
@KarolusImperator
@KarolusImperator 7 месяцев назад
I'd like to see more engagement with centralization and maybe something like EU4's HRE mechanics. Higher centralization means that the empire's appearance on the map is more like it is, a solid white. Lower centralization means that individual vassals visually appear as independent, with only a white fade border showing the Imperial borders.

They will for sure milk us with a HRE dlc probably including some of Italy, hungary and austria as well. I bet they will have one dlc for england and France and then one the eastern baltic regions + russian ones, they will implement a lot of stuff ck3 is still very young

Frederick III. became King IN Prussia in 1701, not OF Prussia. A 'minor', but not insignificant difference. Very interesting episode, thanks :)
@fat_alsgaming
@fat_alsgaming 7 месяцев назад
It wouldn’t be until Frederick the Great that the title would change to King OF Prussia with the first partition of Poland. Poland controlled West Prussia and the Polish King claimed the title as King of Prussia.

I mean it is actually an insignificant difference as it made no real difference to anything in real life. It is just funby historical pettiness
@blueinmotion9438
@blueinmotion9438 Месяц назад
@@sebe2255 He was the first one (aside of the title of the kingdom of Bohemia - but that title was very, very old and hold by the King of the Germans and the emperor of the HRE - the Habsburger) to take the title of a king by his own rights besides the King of the Germans - and the King of the Germans was the official title of the ruler of the land of the Germans. Usually the king of the Germans, who was elected by the Kurfürsten (electors), was the emperor of the HRE as well. By doing this he deteriorated the authority and extraordinariness of those titles and the authority of the HRE. If even the poor Elector prince of Prussia call himself a king, what was the worth of such a title?
@sebe2255

I lived in Freiburg im Breisgau for some time. Austrian and Zähringen influence can be found throughout the city. However, my favorite story has to be the revolt against the Urach dynasty in the last 13th century where they besieged his castle with catapults and Hauri the butcher killed the Prince-Bishop of Strasbourg in battle when the Bishop went to relieve the Urachs from siege.

For CK3 you could do interesting Characters in Persia after the DLC comes out. For other games: If it is Paradox-aligned it would be EU4 and the missing states of the HRE. If not: It woud have to be Total War: Atilla or Three Kingdoms.

I've walked past this castle basically every single day lol It's such a strange feeling to see these familiar places on RU-vid but it also shows the historical importance of this small region in todays Baden-Württemberg. Adding my vote to the requests for videos about regions outside of Europe; in particular I'd love to hear more about how accurately North Asia is represented, since it's a region that I think often gets left out of discussions about anything prior to the Mongol Empire. Is there any chance you'd be interested in going over details in mods, as opposed to solely unmodded games? If so, major CK3 overhaul mods like Shogunate, The Fallen Eagle, or Oriental Empires could provide good opportunities to explore areas/times not covered by CK3. Alternately, I'd love to hear your takes on the EU4 mod Voltaire's Nightmare (which shrinks down the map to focus solely on a hyper-detailed HRE). Otherwise, the Nobunaga's Ambition series could be a good opportunity to explore Japanese history -- especially since, much like the HRE, feudal Japan is a region that tends to be portrayed with far less complexity than it had in actual history.

Funfact: 1066 berg was actually in a pretty chaotic state where basically every village was as independent as most duchies. The successor to the Ezzonen of lotharingia count Adolf I of berg would only come to power in 1077 and only got recognized as a county in 1101. I can't remember how paradox treated it but i can confidently say based on what the system can do that it's historically inaccurate

Interesting fact about Rudolf von Rheinfelden, when Heinrich III. introduced his son as heir the realm (think CK2), when it was Rudolf's turn to swear alleagance to his future liege, he broke traditional protocol by giving his vow on the condition that Heinrich IV. would be a just king/emperor. This explains why he would later be chosen as the anti-king to Heinrich when the latter was excommunicated by the Pope and the Saxons and other vassals rose up against him.

Marzoban (Count) Rustam karenzade of Mazandaran in northern iran, kingdom of daylam. his ancestors are from the ancient persian empire. Some of his courtiers are from the Baduspanid house, that ruled until the 16th century. We also have their bordering count, of Rayy, he is from the alavid dynasty which later became one of the most important dynasties in the region.

Would you ever consider doing a video on historically interesting counts in the Byzantine Empire and Bulgaria? Also if you were to do these videos on the EU4 timeline you'd have enough content to last years given how extensive the timeline is. There's been a few occasions I've gone to start a game and end up just looking at the map for ages, looking at the border changes and then googling the history
