This guy just doesn't let up. Forget about the marathon record. Let's just appreciate a little thing called longevity. Kipchoge has been at the top of the game across multiple distances, on multiple surfaces for multiple decades. He has more top ten performances than most athletes get appearances. And he's still. Going. That career to me that sets a case for greatest runner, and perhaps greatest athlete of all time, regardless of who claims the official world record.

Watch his track career before you claim such ridiculous things. He won nothing major after his 2003 epic year, he was outclassed until he transitioned to the marathon in 2013 I love to see Kipchoge run in the marathon but he will never be goat worthy overall, that's a fact. Kipchoge has already cemented himself in as a marathon legend with a career longer than most could dream of. He has nothing to prove. Yes Kiptum has the new record and may possibly be the first to break the 2 hour mark in a race, but will he prevail on the level of Kipchoge and will he have the longevity at the top like Kipchoge? This is what will earn him the legendary marathoner status in my opinion.

I brought this topic of age up a year ago and got laughed at. As a lifetime competitive runner, I was interested in the age when running times fell off for professional athletes. My studies over a 20 year period shows moderate drop off at 38 years old, significant drop offs at 39 years old and the bottom completely dropping out at 40 years old. So Kipchoge is in a unique position at 39. He could run a 2:02-2:03 at next years Olympics, or he could slip back 2-3 minutes slower then this time. Either way, his big stage marathon wins will definitely be over at the end of 2024.

I would not be surprised if Kipchoge is due to age a little bit slower in Tokyo than last year. Paris: If they both stay healthy, Kiptum is for me the favorite. But Kipchoge has the advantage he had experience racing at hot and humid temperatures. And Paris can be very hot in summer ;-) - so I guess they just run something around 2:06 to 2:08 as it is non-paced. So I'd love to see Kipchoge winning his 3rd title!!

I think you need to discuss the two approaches that Kelvin and Eliud take towards the marathon. As you mentioned, Kipchoge has been doing this for 20 years. It wouldn't surprise me if he's never had a season running as many miles as Kiptum is now. I think Kiptum is taking the approach of hot and fast where Kipchoge was slow and steady. @@carlholland3819 well, the premise of all these Kipton Vs Kipchoge vids is that they're going to run together in a race (I doubt it), if this is the case, then Kipton will have to run the fastest first half of a marathon he's ever done by about 30seconds, at which point Kipchoge is doing what he's always done which is run the first half 30 seconds faster than Kipton ever has. At that point I doubt you'll see a negative split. Seeing as Kipchoge is the most experienced I doubt very much he'll be letting Kipton set a slower pace, so if Kipton is about 30 seconds behind at the first half he'll be looking good for a win, but, he'll be chasing the best marathon runner of all time by doing so, which won't be an easy task. If this is the case then everyone else can choose to be paced for a positive or negative split depending how they race and steal a win from both of them. The route of Tokyo Marathon is not as good as Berlin Marathon, one is the toute is not flat with some slop, second too many 90 degree turn, third Tokyo at March time is very windy. For my 4 times Tokyo Marathon and one time Berlin Marathon experience, I personal comment that Tokyo Marathon is not the perfect race for world fast Marathon venue.

I like your videos and reporting, but please get rid of those clickbait video titles.... at least give some more context on the content.... sometimes its hard to know if i watched the video already or not as the titles are very generic.

Okey, so nobody listens to me, but Kipchoge won't even metal at 40 years old. Wake up. Talk about an "age group record,' but that same age group runner winning a medal at the Olympics? Go out on the track and try to run even one lap at the pace these world class guys run.. Now, once you have finished you will see just how fast they are running. The margins between the winners and the losers are small. Very small. And that is the point. Nature has erased that small advantage that The GOAT Kipoboge had, and frankly it's now not even a race. However, I think he's doing it for the money, and in that case more power to him.

Of course he is doing it for money. Marathon bids very very high amount of money for Kipchoge just to show there.
