Great video. On the first one now but will continue your series. My grandfather actually built the Ice House on Jordan Street. So it made me smile to see it.
Thank you. My Mom worked as a waitress at Bartel's Restaurant and Winery. In the 70s, it was a happening place. I played Gypseys Tramps and Thieves on the Jukebox when I could. Or KC and the Sunshine Band. I was around 8 yrs. Old. I also lived in the projects on 9th avenue. Maybe they would not admit it even then, but the projects were fully segragated, except children, I was 7 and 8 rears old. The were 2 sections, black and white and noone crossed property, although we could all be friendly off property, just no crossing to other apartments, unless you were a child, we could go anywhere in both apartments. People were nice to me in general.
Wow! Thank you for the amazing work you did showing our amazing city and all of its changes over the decades. Wonderful work beautiful pictures and really appreciate the time and dedication you took honoring My amazing hometown.
That was so amazing! I have lived here in Pensacola since 1992. So very neat to see what things use to look like. Thank you for all of the work you put into this video. :)
I was born in Pensacola in the 1970s and went to UWF in the 1990s. That UFO house was an iconic part of my childhood. I remember using it as a landmark back when it was clearly visible from the road. Great video, thanks!!
First night dinner for every visit home the last 50 years ...... Jerry’s for fried mullet. In the 60s on a Friday night after dancing at the TOC Club my mom would take us there for fries and a cherry coke. Great memories.
Born and raised in Pensacola. Lived all over the world but I always come back to Pensacola. Great place to grow up and retire, but in between is pretty tough
Thank you for posting this video! it was awesome. I am Pensacola Native and if you see or find out anything else about Pensacola's underlying wealth and History, please do share! so many people have no idea just how much history this city really hold. Again Thank you.
My grandparents lived in Pensacola, so I'm fairly familar with the town. I still only live a few hours away, and plan to visit again for Halloweenfest later this month, and seeing this helps me to make a list of places to drop by while I'm there.
That was pretty cool thank you, I used to live in Pensacola my father is buried there I still have a lot of family there. I used to work at the Dainty Daily restaurant many years ago.
Wow I enjoyed that very much. I am a born and raised Lifelong Tallahasseean. I never got to go to Pensy until about 20 years ago ( pre Ivan? ) for a Church Conference thing. I was so surprised how comfortable I was there. I'd never staid long further west than Bonifay ( except for a quick duck by on the way to Nawlins ) It reminded me of Panama City a little bit but not as much as I thought. It's certainly it's own place. PC interior's been trashed now and I'm so sad I know it will never be the same. I have no family left there anyway. I was able to go see Gene's Oyster bar one last time anyway. Very nice of u to do these!
I really appreciate you taking the time to do a project such as this. Pensacola is a great area and our history deserves to be preserved and celebrated. How did you come up with this idea?
Daniel Hayes I'm glad you enjoyed it. I originally saw a picture on Facebook of someone comparing an old photo with a new photo and thought it was really cool. I decided to look up as many old pictures as I could and determined which ones I thought I could recreate now. Then I went out and did it. I also did a part 2 that you should check out as well. Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the video. Now I am wondering if I've ever seen the crystal ice house before or not. LOL Will have to drive by and see if I've ever been past it or not. Might have and just not paid it any attention. Looks neat though and interesting story.
We visit Pensacola Beach and Pensacola every year. But we could not go to Pensacola this year because of hurricane Sally taking out the bridge. We missed downtown, Joe Patti’s, Seville Quarter this year.
That was fun. Left P’cola after high school in mid 80s. Just moved back this year. This vid dovetails nicely with my recent musings of the old days. Great job lining everything up nearly perfectly. Love to see more. Do you think those three palms on PB are the same ones? The oak at Bayou Texar has to be same.
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you liked it. I have done 3 more that you should check out. I have them on a playlist on my channel with a similar format to this one.
2:09-2:18 I asked my father about that place once, he told me that, essentially, it was a ice house, they would store ice blocks in there and you would pay for ice for the ice pan in your ice box to keep things cool, i think they should referbish it and turn it in to a FUNCTIONING ice dispenser you could put an ice machine in there and use eith credit cards, cash, or what ever , and charge 2 dollars per 5 pound bag of ice, you could use it on hot summer days to fill you cooler before you went to the beach, or during hurricanes you could add a generator and a water filter to sell ice to help preserve your food, i have allways wanted to see it back up and running.
Would LOVE to know about the history of some of these structures, I. e. the Ice Company, etc. I grew up in Pensacola in the 60s and early 70s before moving north to Santa Rosa County.
Do you have any photos or video of the entrance to Corry Station and surrounding area? Many of us sailors fondly remember being stationed there. I loved Pensacola.
I went swimming in Wayside Park Family Picnics there. Had to wade over rocks and water to get deep enough to swim and play in the water. Now fenced off because of pollution they tell me
Thank you for the video my friend Pensacola is really a beautiful place but there's low information or videos about it . You doing a favour by showing it to the world
Lived in Pensacola on Bayou Blvd , when it was a dirt road ! My heart has always been in Pensy , even though I left in 1961 …. Back then the USA had NO idea what a beautiful are of panhandle was …. actually Pensacola has kept the charm / downtown . But the Beach is a tourist hudge mess …. 😝
Pensacola, you're doing things right, don't make the same mistake Miami did and let your politicians and commissioners bowl over your entire city with condos that'll sit empty for years. Our city has almost entirely lost it's identity. It's all glass buildings now with no history, no purpose since they are empty, and they are now pushing out to destroy the suburbs and other Florida cities.
