Some parts of the Philippines aren't occupied by the Spaniards by 1700's-1800's. It took a lot of time to colonize the whole of the Philippines. The Spanish did eventually establish a presence in Mindanao by 1800's though.

The Spaniards never gained any foothold deep and/or had never established any major control here in what is now the Cordilleras despite their strong military due to stiff and stubborn resistance by the Igorots

Filipinos are naturally very hardworking and willing to take any job although the problem could be is that they have no selfworth anymore but they're just not as finicky as other people. Also, because the pay in here is not as high in other countries more people tend to seek greener pastures and work abroad, building other nations while their own country lacked the best professionals cause they're elsewhere making other countries more successful. People remained Catholic because of the teachings and their own choice. With the long colonization there is still a struggle to find their own identity. While not all the natives embraced Catholicism there were many who did even the Rajas themselves were the ones who embraced it. Go research on how Catholicism spread and started in Cebu. The reason why "Maharlika" was not used was because while it has a noble meaning in the Filipino language it was said that it has a negative meaning in another country. Actually, Marcos Era was focused on uplifting the dignity of Filipinos. Buying used clothes was imported from other country was strictly banned (Bawal ang ukay-ukay) I believe being a katulong abroad was also banned. Imelda has great regard for the arts. Iconic structures were built because they dreamt of a world-class country(hence, the extravagance). But all that was remembered of the Marcos regime was martial law and the abuses that followed, (and the debts because most projects were abandoned and even destroyed) :/ And now, they have an unplanned, chaotic country 'cause of the lack of respect in professions. They've lost their esteem and forgot to build their identity and rather work for other people than make a name of their own. the filipino history curriculum only serves the essentials of filipino history that all filipinos should learn about. you need not learn the specificalities of each and every historical detail. if you were extra curious about it, you could just take a history course and major there or research it as a hobby on your own. we do not have a very detailed specific study of the prehispanic histories of the country and the new things you hear about the old prehispanic states are also just recently discovered in the past decades or doesnt have enough substance yet. something our curriculum has not updated yet or has seen no need to disseminate mandatorily to every philippine school as of yet since its not essential and not as perfectly understood yet.
