The story of the Third Crusade is the story of two enigmatic men who struggled for control of the Holy Land and the city of Jerusalem. Richard the Lionheart and Saladin were both masters of warfare and in each other they found a worthy opponent.

Flash Point History you are very imprecise in mapping Hungary, it encompassed the whole Carpathian Basin at that time when Frederick Barbarossa crossed through it. And he never went through Romania, which at that time didn't exist. His route was through Serbia, Bulgaria, Greece and Thrace.

I'm still in confusion about something. Why was Phillip so passive in allowing himself to be suboordinated by Richard when he arrived... What made Richard so obviosly senior? Then after Acre was captured why did Philip leave really? Seems to me he could have stayed and participated, and remained a big contender for powersharing in a recaptured Crudader Kingdom...

Amazing video - Saladin was undoubtedly a brilliant general, but since he never defeated Richard I in any battle, it truly shows what an amazing warrior king Richard truly was. Whilst Muslims like to glorify Saladin, we in the West rarely speak of Richard's accomplishments.

@@nickafanasyev6550 Yes it doesn't fit the bill. Genocide is the attempt to eradicated an ethnic or religious groups. While the prisoner were Muslim, their death was mainly a military decision as the Crusaders could not afford to feed them rather than a attempt to destroy an entire ethno-religious groups.

I've always liked how you compact your videos into one movie length video at the end of a series or series chapter. I like to download them and keep them for long road trips or long international flights. Your series on the early Reconquista and the Black Death got me through a 10 hour flight to Hungary once. @@FlashPointHx It's the combination, the passion from the narrator and the conclusion of this great adventure. You can feel like something great is about to happen. It reminded me of the end Alphonso The Avenger epsiode when he was about to finish the reconquista only to die from the black plague.

I must say I have never seen a video like this before, I love history and after playing Assassin's Creed 1 I wanted to know more about this time period and the Third Crusade as a whole, King Richard and Sultan Saladin were great generals and their war strategy was a joy to watch and learn, you narrated it perfectly and I will be sure to recommend your channel to friends and watch your other videos.

In 1889 Wilhelm II visited Syria and he visited the Mausoleum of Saladin the following day, the Kaiser made a speech: “In the face of all the courtesies extended to us here, I feel that I must thank you, in my name as well as that of the Empress, for them, for the hearty reception given us in all the towns and cities we have touched, and particularly for the splendid welcome extended to us by this city of Damascus. Deeply moved by this imposing spectacle, and likewise by the consciousness of standing on the spot where held sway one of the most chivalrous rulers of all times, the great Sultan Saladin, a knight sans peur et sans reproche, who often taught his adversaries the right conception of knighthood” and he donated a sarcophagus and placed flowers on Saladin’s tomb after World War I, when the German-Ottoman alliance was defeated and both empires were destroyed, T.E. Lawrence stole the gilded wreath and brought it to London

Watching such video is terrifying. Fighting day and night continously lots bloodshed all over. Those days those kings and soldiers are so brave and strong but they all have to die one day fighting with their enemies to capture their territory and lands I salute to all the warriors who shed their blood and tears inthe battle field.
