Thats wrong, waistcoat has as much of an obscure history as the other two elements. Somebody has to show these people claiming that waistcoat originated in 1666 even older paintings of Dutch Golden era to shut their claim up. And moreover someone should also show them portraits of Carl Emil von Donop and other German military officers to clear once and for all about the design of modern suit jacket with lapels.
@@kodywhitehead9315 no one can be sure about waistcoats however the earliest depiction is from 15th and 16th century Dutch paintings. Seems like it came to be worm by the general masses first before being adopted by elites. Now funny thing is that there are Dutch paintings which modern suit arrangement being worn by general people including kids before the 1666. However the modern coat with lapels seems to have originated in ceremonial uniforms of German royalty around early 1760s and later on it can be seen in other nations. But it still was knee length frock coat. The short length coats were once again adopted by general masses first who as longer coats are more costly.
@@sharjeel.k126 funny thing is I've seen those paintings and I don't see no correlation between the two. Like it or not the three pie suit (modern suit) was invented/popularized in Britain.
@@martinsanchez4827 I think you haven't seen some of the paintings that I am talking about especially the one of Jan Steen in which a guy is sitting on a chair wearing a frock coat, a waist coat and trousers which predate the dates that are usually attributed to King Charles II and the pictorial evidence is even further later. And in that painting, the dress worn by King Charles II is no different from the one depicted in Jan Steen's earlier works. Moreover what's funny is that even in that reference it is alluded that the dress may have been a legacy of the Ottoman Empire which does seem valid since it seems to have been adopted in elite circles of Eastern Europe and the Balkans first and later by Northern and Western European elites who until then used to dress like clowns.
not just British.. the suit is uniquely JEWISH.. its the official attire for Rabbis.. just look up George Galloway.. to see what a rabbi wears... hat and all.. even INDOORS!!!
