The first time I saw this film I was about 10 years old, I’m 50 now. I can not tell you how many times I’ve seen this movie and the Spanish Inquisition is my favorite. Mel Brooks, Dom Delouise, Madeleine Kahn, Gregory Hines, they became my comedy heroes at a very young age and they still are. No one can beat Madeleine Kahn choosing her royal guard for the midnight orgy. THE BEST SCENE EVER! Mel Brooks ruined me for all comedy films. No one compares to him and his stage presence.
Saw it with my dad and brother for the first time, and it was one of the very few happy times I had with the old man. He didn't laugh much, my dad. But he laughed at this, and so did we. Thanks, Mel. You're the best.
My wife is perpetually annoyed with me because I will grab any excuse to sing “The Inquisition” and it’s generally about half an hour before I let up. Mel rules!
The first movie that we watched AS A FAMILY when Cablevision first came in to homes..I don't think my Mom and Dad ever laughed that hard at anything that i liked!!!
When I was a kid in high school (late 90's)my dad bought History of the World Pt. 1 and sat me and my sister down to watch it. Instant favorite. One time I forgot about a history report that was due the next day, and I wrote about the Spanish Inquisition. Of course I had to look up the spelling of Torquemada, the actual dates and places, but the bulk of the report was based on this musical number. When I got the report back, my teacher made a note that I should watch this movie lol.
@@kevinrhatigan5656 the movie? it was on VHS. The info I had to look it up in a book! Google wasn't a mainstream thing yet, or at least it wasn't in my high school. This was in the late 90's.
The Hulu series was ok. I didn’t like the way it shifted from time period to time period. It got confusing after a while. It just wasn’t the same. Mel was able to get away with so much in Part I. Now, he has to be cautious with the material and dialogue. I wish he could have made Part II immediately following Part I and using the cast he had back then.
Such a great number. I like that this puts the Jackie Mason bit BEFORE the other guy, because beardo's got by far the better punchline in his part. like, you don't make Jackie Mason go first, so I understand how it ended up that way. I just think they could have punched that bit up a little so it could follow 'and not a tube of Preparation H in sight'
and suddenly these goys break down my walls. i didn't even know them, and they grabbed me by the scrotum, and they started playing ping-pong with my balls. oy the agony! oooh the shame! to make my privates public for a game?
my favorite Mel Brooks movie! I wonder if the ADL will go after Mel Brooks for his edgy, satirical humor concerning the Jews, even when Mel, himself, is a Jew? He has done a lot of controversial and humorous comedy bits against the Jews in some of his films. After the Kanye and Kyrie controversaries, it makes you wonder if the ADL declared open season on anyone that pokes fun at the Jews.
