One guy had a p38 which I'd have liked to have bought but this jerk told me that the small chips you could see in the grips where the bones of Jews that had died in concentration camps. While logic told me he was full of bleep and it was more likely to be wood chips used as filler what I told him was I didn't want the bleeping thing in my house. I don't think that was the reaction he wanted. 😂🤣😂🤣😉🤢

So what I get from this WW1 series is that: - 6.5mm good - larger calibers bad
@grzegorzbrzeczyszykiewic3338
To be fair , 6.5 seems to be the Goldilocks diameter for both full power and intermediate cartridges for its high accuracy, low recoil affects while still having enough “ stopping power” similar to a 7.62 diameter cartridge. Of course , none of that mattered for the Italians since they never switched to spitzer bullets, reducing a lot of the positive effects of a light 6.5 cartridge while not getting any of the power of a 30 cal bullet.

I'm sure the fact that Italy is basically a long strip of annoyingly rugged, hilly, even mountainous land had something to do with the ambivalence towards cavalry and a reliance on highly mobile infantry. EDIT....months later: The Bersaglieri are badasses. The feathers look a little 'dandy' at first but somehow on modern kit they actually look pretty cool. Wonder what the Afghans thought about the Italian plumage walkin' down the roads a handful of years ago.

The M91 TS was made in a larger number was because of the constant fights the Italians had on the Isonzo front. The weather there was horrendous and when the winter arrives, they found that those that did not have gloves were finding the bayonets to be more of a nuisance as when they accidentally touch it, some of their men's skin would stick on it thus they decided to issue more M91 TS there. Soon, with the constant attacks on the Austrians on the steep slopes, the TS does seem as a better choice.

Patton probably had respect for the bravery of some Italian units and individuals. Maybe the closest he came to death during the second war was when he came ashore (his real landing, not his later, "original Hollywood" version) on Sicily and a Macchi made repeated strafing passes in suicidal AA cover. Dying for "Lo Zucchone".

Very nice put together video, chock full of great information and numbers! I'm a pretty proud owner of a Trophy send back M-38 one in 6.5mm and one of which was converted by the Nazi's to 8mm Mauser, which I will never fire due to the fact it was known to kill more Fascist than the Allie's when they were over pressured by the German ammunition! BUT the M-38 in 6.5mm is a very sweet gun for hunting being so short and lightweight! Plenty of stopping power but definitely not overbearing to shoot it all day long! Appreciate your video and thank you for sharing your information on these semi rare rifles!

A buddy of mines grandad had passed that rifle down to him. Sat in his garage for a long time and he didn't know what it was. I told him it was a 6.5 Italian carcano carbine. The bolt had a split right down the middle, the action was locked up and wouldn't open. After doing some work on it I got it to cycle and function. Unfortunately it's not really in shooting conditions, rather in terrible shape. But it's neat history that he'll pass on and on

I purchased a 1935 FNA Brescia manufactured Moschetto that somehow avoided British or American test proofing before it made its way to me in Canada. The stock and hand guard serial numbers don’t match but they’re written in pencil inside which is really cool. The hand guard appears to be much taller than the factory hand guard and the slot where the rear sight folds down into is crudely hand hand carved out. It is a fascinating piece of history and I wish I could find out where it found itself upon Italian army acceptance.

I just ordered a Carcano carbine from Classic Firearms. My grandfather was a Alpini captain in the Italian armed forces in WW1 so I figured that was the weapon that his men used. Being an officer he probably just carried a pistol i’m thinking. The carbines were reduced in price from $269.00 to $229.00 on the Black Friday sale.

Not that it could be done during either war, but it would be interesting to see what might be accomplished with the use of a lighter spitzer bullet out of the same cartridge. Both this and the Arisaka are practically intermediate cartridges when compared to many of their contemporaries.

I got one of those carbines haven’t fired it because I haven’t had time to clean it up first, I have another one a m91 TS, but that one runs like a Swiss clock except for the fact that last round just does NOT want to chamber without assistance, it tries to stick itself straight up in the sky, which means you have to push it down with a finger while trying to rack the round into the chamber but all in all a great rifle.

I accidently stumbled over your channel this morning and was VERY impressed, so much so I subscribed three minutes into the video. Very informative ! I have been circling two of these little carbines for several months but knew so little about them that I've been holding off. Come Tuesday (when the gun store I do most of my business at opens it's doors again) I plan on buying either both for shooters or one for shooting and the second for parts....and they are both in excellent condition with almost "like new" bores!.....Heck, I may just shoot both and rotate their usage so as not to wear either of them out. By the way, have you ever done voice over work for PBS or another TV network that carries a lot of DYS type programming? I'd swear I've heard your voice on TV describing projects that the otherwise mostly silent carpenters, electricians, etc., etc. were doing. It's the cadence, tone, and word usage that sounds so familiar. Thanks for an excellent video. Now all I have to do is catch up with your previous uploads.....

My dad had a 91 rifle. Didn't the safety lock the bolt, I'm not sure now. Anyway, I liked the safety for a couple of reasons. When the safe was on , you knew it because it blocked the sights (if I remember correctly). And I like that fact that it works as a de-cocker. I guess there's no great advantage to having a de-cocker on it, but I like it anyway.

Great episode! Great shooting! This question is for Mae, what is the sight picture you are using to get such a fine group? I’ve read that the front sight post is held at the bottom of the V-notch. You said a 6 o’clock hold, how deep in the rear sight is your sight picture? I’m a collector of a number of Carcano’s that I plan to shoot when weather permits. Thanks in advance.

There's a saying in my country, "Avanti Bersaglieri por la bataglia nostra", i always thought "Bersaglieri" meant brother or friend or something like that. I cant belive it took me this long to find out a "Bersaglieri" was a type of italian soldier

It's "Avanti Bersaglieri, che la vittoria è nostra!" ("Let's go Bersaglieri, that the victory is ours!). Its a phrase of Garibaldi, however, for some reason, despite being in Italian, is much more known in the spanish speaking countries than in italy.

As far as firearms these folks review this one might be more affordable. Check out the website classic firearms. They have these for like $270.00 More than likely though it'll be manufactured in between the wars.

I did enjoy Miss Mae's control and shooting of both carbines. I am impressed with the results - shot groups. Which made me wonder; At what range does Miss Mae engage those targets? You (either) have no doubt mentioned that before, but I've either missed it or forgot it. By the way, one of my recent WWI finds is a Carcano TS carbine, stamped on the barrel boss "Bresica" and 1917, which I assume are obvious. (I do have the M1891 long rifle as well, but I would rather have one of the shorter guns than lug the big one over hill and dale.) This video and subject is of personal value. Thanks.

Hi, great video, very well documented. I've found your video researching about Carcanos, since I've just bought a M38 Cavalry with fixed iron sights. I am accostumed to WW1 and WW2 bolt action rifles, but I just don't understand the sights of this specific model, I miss every time, even at 50yds... Do you know how to aim with Carcanos fixed iron sights ?
