Holy sh*t!! I just had my neighbor put his finger on the sweet spot of my club face and chase that hold down to parallel in my downswing. That COMPLETELY changes the feel of how you move the club downward. Now THAT is a damn revelation. I’m taking my ass to the range RIGHT NOW and incorporating that feel after a few drills. Now a have to figure a way to create that feel without needing someone there to put their finger on the sweet spot to allow for that physical feedback. Hmmm….🤔🤔🤔

Straight up one of the best videos you guys have done. I'm helping a young guy who started playing a few months ago. 6'5" and speed to burn. He's obsessed with lag, so he pulls the handle, gets narrow, cups the left wrist - and you don't need me to tell you where he's hitting it. This video is his homework. BTW, how do I get one of Mike trucker caps shipped to Australia??

Love your videos and this one really helped me immediately when I played today. By focusing on getting my hands down to my thigh/knee it fixed my issue of using my left shoulder too early in the downswing. The swing felt a lot more powerful and consistent. Cant wait to practice this more and get it ingrained.

Good video. I like the drill with the finger on the sweet spot of the club face at the top of the back swing. I'm going to use this on my sons-in-law, too. I thought the point you two made about not being able to create more lag without a more closed club face was a vital key to success for this.

When my mail shows that Athletic motion golf has posted a new video, my heart beat goes up! I know that there will be another great video, filled with insight, knowledge and drills to get my game a boost. Just out of curiosity, in the video an amateur had a club head speed faster than a tour pro at shaft level to the ground on the down swing, but he was slower at impact. By how many percent could his swing sped increase if could maintain the lag so his hands where outside his right leg, as the pro has?

@@AthleticMotionGolf I would love to gain 8 mph. Just out of curiosity, how many yards is that in carry length? This really gives us amateurs some hope in gaining length from the tee and fairway by just understanding what we versus the pro's do. There is no silver bullet, just understanding the fundamentals. And practise.

Hello, coming from a "one plane swing", I really like your first drill, focusing on having a square or even closed club face quite early in the downswing, then you can really have the feeling to push down to the ground with your right plam. The lag in this case is created by te feeling : keeping the right palm "covering the ball and pushing down". Another question do you have video related to one plane golf swing?
@gregpeterson8374

Thanks for the video guys. I enjoy the technical aspect of your instruction. This reminds me of another popular RU-vid golf instructor I also follow. He had a video some time ago, that suggested holding the club up in front of you, (perpendicular to your body) horizontal - parallel to the ground, and rotating the club more closed that you would normally do - up to 45 degrees closed. I tried this for a while and found I was hitting my irons a lot farther. The only problem I had was pulling too may balls to the left. This seems to help generate a more shaft forward at impact and also maybe a bit more lag. What are your thoughts on this practice? Thanks

Awesome video! I saw another one where you stated too much arm adduction in ams causes the right hand to be too far off the hip at left arm parallel, causing lag issues. Do you have any drills to work on lowering the arm adduction angle?
@CS-eh8eo
@CS-eh8eo 4 года назад
I noticed many good golfers and top tour players have a bent right arm and bowed left wrist through impact. Do you have any videos investigating this move of the right arm? Look at the driver swings of DJ, McDowell, Westwood, Tiger, Spieth, Hogan, Mcilroy, they all have a bent right arm through impact, an average amateur golfer will hit the ball straight to the right with this move, so it appears you also need the bowed left wrist. Thanks

Most of what you have said is correct but what you are saying about Garcia is not. Sergio Garcia is producing more lag than can be shown merely by the amount of shaft angle to the center axis of the lead forearm. It is true that his angle is 90 degrees when looked at that way. However, by leaving the shaft so flattened with the clubhead so far behind him, he has created a tremendous rotational potential around the axis of his lead forearm. The angle that you are describing is the one that can be demonstrated by holding your arm in front of you and holding the shaft vertical. The other lag is illustrated by hanging the lead arm straight down with the shaft pointing straight away from the body and then rotating the shaft towards the trail hip while keeping the shaft level to the ground without moving the body using the rotational capacity of the arm joints. This is also lag and happens much more in some swings than others (even pro ones). Lag is simply any way in which the clubhead and shaft are left behind a particlar dimension of rotation. The golf swing contains both vertical and horizontal dimensions of rotation and this second type of lag is related to the horizontal dimension. Johnny Miller relates this lag to flash crossover speed that pros have and amateurs lack, by which the clubhead crosses the body in a fraction of a second. This lag is created by using the lead arm as what is called a "moment arm" in physics. Both Ben Hogan's and Sergio Garcia's swings have an unusual amount of this type of lag. When both types are particularly evident in a given swing, we tend to perceive large amounts of lag in that swing.

Another great video.. regarding the hands too far from the body in the down swing and the lead arm too much across the chest... This is a fault of mine, and I have noticed that when the lead arm rides up my chest in the backswing, this puts the hands out too far and the adduction (your video reference) angle gets too low. Keeping connected but also turning to keep that left arm from riding up the chest is critical. IMO. False turn and the lead arm rides up the chest....hands now too far away in downswing, out of sync with right thigh. Wipe. Your first drill I think is what Tom Watson referred to as keeping the club face "square to the arc"....
@AthleticMotionGolf

I know this is an older drill but I'm going through all of your wrist setting and lag videos to hopefully get it right once and for all. I've used the Swing Dyne and the Tour Striker to help but I'm wondering how to pair your "pump the club" video to start with more speed and how to "unload" the 90* angle so late. On video, I see that I start dumping the angle a bit outside my thigh so I'm wondering if I'm pumping too fast from the top and if there is a good drill to marry the two. Thanks for all of your insights in these videos - love them!

Can you do a video that shows the clubface-path motion before and at impact for a properly compressed shot please? To show how the club face is squared and stabilized through this area ahead of impact. Magazine and picture instruction have instilled an idea of the club head face-path action as a sweeping open-square-closed type motion with the club face only square for an instant. I my own swing I always felt that the club is closed before impact and it's a driving out and down motion that creates a straight shot. I never feel like I'm swinging the clubface at the target if that makes sense.

So, Sergio also seems to have a rather large vertical drop with his hands in his swing and is, or was known as one of the longer iron hitters out there. Are we saying that none of these factors can be attributed to extra loading of the shaft due to his move?

Hi, Guys-- I'm new to your site, but I think it's just great. I haven't seen anyplace where you can be reached. First: where do you teach, and how much are lessons? Second: already anticipating that I can't afford to go to you, do you do video analysis? I'm going to the PGA Merchandise show next week (I'm a USGTF guy) and I plan on purchasing a Live View Golf system, so I should be able to put lines over my body and swing, etc. I have ways hit the ball pretty well (I've been playing over 60 years now) but my swing sucks. @AthleticMotionGolf

The mass should shift, but it needs to do so early so it can stabilize late allowing the hands and club to "catch up." If it's a late shift, the hands get left behind... literally.
