First test footage from a Hitachi FP-Z31 broadcast 3-tube (Saticon) studio/ENG camera. The camera was fully aligned and calibrated by me, bringing it back to full factory specifications. It was shot at my quarry in Elsberry Missouri, and recorded with a Sony BVU-150 portable 3/4" U-Matic SP VTR. The camera and deck were powered off a single Sony BP-90A battery for the duration of shooting. The video was transfered to Final Cut Pro in my studio from a Sony BUV-900 U-Matic SP playback deck (with TBC and DNR options installed and active), through a Grass Valley Group model 100N production switcher, into an AJA Io via composite video, and captured and edited in DVCPro 50 format. After editing, it was compressed to H.264 encoded QuickTime with deinterlacing and continuous keyframing.

Reminds me of TV news from the 1980's. Color seems to be better then CCD or is it just me?

That looks great for 3/4" SP! Some artifacts from the h.264 encoding though.

Hi can I ask you how do you allign the tubes? Must you use a wave form monitor? How difficult is it to allign them and can you please help me with alligning tubes I have in my camera please? Also did you replace the original tubes? Is it hard to replace to tubes? I would really appreciate your help. Do you think I could also attach this to a betacam sp recorder or can I run it through a cd recorder via bnc cables? Please help me. I love the look of your camera.

Hi, I recently acquired a consumer grade single tube Saticon, the Hitachi VK-C800, how would I go about aligning the tube to get better colour quality? What would be the best lighting conditions for filming with a tube camera?

Looks great Tom. The tubes do well even though they probably do have high hours on them :) Lots of nice Catfish in that lake too :) Id like to see what it looks like without the youtube digital compression. Great job on that alignment. Matt

Very nice test!! I like tube cameras very much since I got a Panasonic WV-N3 and a Thomson TTV-1604S, both 3 tube cameras!! :-) The quality and and image feeling that are capable to give is definitely unique. Best regards, Asier.

Also please help me, what lens did you use? Do you know the mount, b3 or b4? Is it 2/3 inch? And what kind of battery and power supply did you use? Which lens too? When was this camera made?

I think that's called blooming on the green tube. Probably needs beam current adjusted.
