The theme: Voyeurism
For Truffaut, James Stewart is in the position of a spectator watching a movie, sitting next to the window, pinned down to his chair because of his broken leg.
Stewart uses his camera lens to told a love and murder story of the oppising flat. Hitchcock creates possible events playing with the peeping Tom inside everyone.
In his mind, Cinema is a pure medium to create a world with the scale of a flat block, built in a film studio.
