@inthewakeofthebunt21 The Canucks didn't overachieve if anything they underachieved during the 1993-94 season. The previous 2 seasons they had 102 points and 101 points and 1993-94 was suppose to be an even better season and the team was thought of as a cup contender before the season started but ended up finishing 7th in the West and they made it to game 7 of the Cup Final. The reason why we were so proud of that team was because they were the first team we had that could contend for the Cup
That's why he has a NTC. He earned it and he deserved the right to want to stay in Toronto after all he had given to that franchise. Remember the good, not the bad.
yeah he did...it was 5.7 mill for him..but he took 5 mil..so now canucks have like 4-5 mill left in cap space..he wanted vancouver to get one more good player so they can make a run for the cup this year..

Can you blame the guy? He said he wanted to be apart of the team he wins the stanley cup with in the way that he feels he makes a difference. If he just joins an already stacked Detroit at the deadline, what good would he be doing? He'd just be another player on an already bolstered roster It doesn't matter what Toronto wanted, he earned the right to make a choice on whether he left or not. That's what a NTC is, and that's why only great players get one.
RockerJon4life: Maple Griefs screwed Mats Sundin big time. Season after season he gave it all for that shitty team and got nothing for it. He always said he wanted to stay in Toronto but the club wanted him to leave. He had more heart for the team than any one I have heard of. And now when he finally do what the club has been urging him to do, leave, he just get shit from the fans. I hope ML never gets the cup again (well they probably never will anyway). They and their fans do not deserve it.

@mrceebees14 For the record, I'm not a fan of the Rangers AT ALL, but each team gets the same amount of money towards players, so I'm just saying, it doesn't really matter how much they are bringing in because they don't get to put it all towards players.
It's funny but he DIDN'T take a paycut with Vancouver. Sure he didn't get the $10Million due to his not playing the entire season, but he WOULD'VE gotten less if he had gone to the Rangers. So as funny as this is, it's not completely accurate.
@mrceebees14 Yuuup, the good ole leafs, and they might not make as many bone-head signings, but they haven't made the playoffs in quite a few years. So it's not like their strategy has been working. They'll make it next year though, so maybe things are changing.
