Hah, thanks! I haven't spoken the language for years, and to be honest, have forgotten almost everything I ever knew! I picked up the softer accent from my Father... but after 20 years, I'm probably still butchering it!

I really enjoyed that video - thank you so much for producing it. Apologies if I missed it, but you didn't seem to directly mention that the E-M5 Mark III has on-sensor phase detection AF (in fact, the exact same system as the E-M1 Mark II) whereas the E-M5 Mark II had only CDAF, so that's a big speed increase in AF - I thought it might be worth me mentioning that in case it's of interest to folks maybe not familiar with the Olympus models. The new Mark III also gains pro-capture mode for saving the last 14 shots buffered during a half-press before you then start shooting and saving at full-press of the shutter button. Another very useful addition from higher up the range (though the E-M1 Mark II can now store up to 35 half-press shots since a firmware upgrade a while back). Was that Mr. Will Cheung in the chairlift next to you? My many years of reading photo magazines in the UK caused me to think I recognise him (assuming he doesn't have a doppelganger!).
@ppmagazine
@ppmagazine 5 лет назад
Yes, both good points I should have mentioned. It does indeed include the PDAF upgrade, though doesn't pick up the same recognition algorithms as the E-M1X. Plus, the Pro Capture, as you say. Yes, that is Mr Cheung! Top man, and all round gent!

I want to upgrade from my M10 mrk III, but as the current price of the M5 III doesn't differ a lot from the M1 II, I probably will go for the M1 mrk II
@ppmagazine
@ppmagazine 5 лет назад
There's a strong argument for that, and as the EM1 is the flagship standard, it's a great upgrade to make.
@simonjh465
@simonjh465 5 лет назад
As far as I can tell the EM10 iii and EM5 iii take the same battery. So if you have spares for your EM10 you save yourself some money, and If you decide to keep the EM10 and buy the Em5 iii you have a common battery.
@EricSnissaert
@EricSnissaert 5 лет назад
@@simonjh465 Yes, that's totally truth, although that's not my biggest argument to choose for the M5 mrk iii. The M1 mrk ii has all pro features the M5 II doesn't have

If you're reviewing the camera, wou;dnt it have been more helpful to film the entire video actually using said camera instead of using the G9? Then we could see for ourselves just how good this camera is in real life VLOG style usage.
@ppmagazine
@ppmagazine 5 лет назад
It would have been great, but we only had one per person and at the moment we're more geared towards photographers than video, but I agree it may well be something to push out for in the future. Consider it on the list. However, the video actually looked pretty good from the small samples I took, and the image stabilisation is brilliant. The bit rates aren't as high as some of the higher tier offerings (obviously) and there's no external recording or log. That said, the weight and size benefit does make it pretty appealing for vlogging.

Although it's not clearly pointed out, it's pretty clear this was a promo spot NOT a review. You'll also note, they don't mention one single weakness, deficiency, or compromise in the camera. Got to stay in Olympus' favor so they don't miss then next adventure. There's hardly any reviews available online - plenty of "first look" stuff but they don't ever use the word "review" and don't point out anything remotely close to a weakness.

Looks great especially for a first time Olympus user, I have a two year old omd10 mk3 and I can't see any advantage for me to upgrade to this camera. I'd rather go the whole way and get a omd1 mk2 or if I could afford it the 1x. ?
@ppmagazine
@ppmagazine 5 лет назад
We can't argue with that. If the EM10 III does what you need, then that's the right camera for you! It's tough to justify an upgrade when your current camera delivers the goods!

Is it worth buying the mark ii after this? I'm looking at wildlife/nature photography and find myself drawn to this camera. But the mark iii price is quite a bit beyond my budget. Any other recommendations within the m43 system for my use case?
@ppmagazine
@ppmagazine 5 лет назад
It's tough. The Mk II was a solid camera, but it's now a 4 year old system, and a lot has changed. The benefit is always the 2x crop of the M43 sensors, but the AF of the mark II isn't going to win any awards in this day and age, like wise the low-light performance is going to be noticeably worse than newer generations. You can look at getting something like a second hand E-M1 Mk II, or a Panasonic G9 potentially. The E-M1 Mk II is a capable camera with some meaty specs, but is a flagship mode, so will still hit he pocket, or the Panasonic is £999 new currently, and has a blistering shooting speed. It really depends on budget, and both M43 manufacturers have less expensive bodies, with less impressive headline specs, that will give you good shots.
@thrallingFRglory
@thrallingFRglory 5 лет назад
Practical Photography That was quite a thorough explanation. I might just go for a G85 in that case, even step it up to a G9 if I can cough up enough cash. Thanks and keep up the good work!

@ppmagazine 5 лет назад
That's no worries, but it's a short first look, you've got to get the info out there and sadly there isn't the time to slow it down that much. It's RU-vid, the average attention span is seconds, it's playing to the audience!

EM5 Mark ii better package overall + better looks. Too much plastic this revision. Tripod mount failure common problem. Avoid and do not buy.
