Hitting with the EASTON MAKO TORQ (bat with the spinny handle) | BBCOR Baseball Bat Review 

The USSSA version of this bat is craaaaaazy hot. Still has the spinny handle though.

We need a vid of you ranking your FAVORITE bats you’ve swung in your life time usssa and bbcor (separate ranking though) so we can see what the god father of bp loves in both divisions of age and bat class.

There were at least 3 of these on every team I played for from 2015-2017. They were always on sale and super cheap for a two piece composite BBCOR so it was hard hard to pass up on. Eventually the handle would just lock up after a while from dirt and sand getting in between the two pieces. Everyone I knew just glued the handle then taped it and swung it as a regular Mako. Got my first two BBCOR homeruns with this bat, was perfect for middle school and early high school players. (Especially since it was always on sale for cheap) 👍

We used to just retape the grip and eliminate the handle spin. We would use a small fiberglass patch and some resin over the joint. It stopped all handle rotation but voided the warranty. Once the slowpitch version of this got broken in, it was rather good and lasted forever.

I got one of these at a yard sale for $5😂. Used electrical tape to get rid of the spiny handle, then lizard skin over the electrical tape. Loved the sound it made and the feel off the bat

Mannnnn back in middle school someone on my team had this and everybody would use it. Not a bad bat but the handle was definitely funky

Great point about the transition from college to pro if someone were to use this bat successfully. What happens when you become a master with this bat, then switch to a wood bat with a non-spin handle? Does that "ruin" your swing?

one of Easton’s best bats both in baseball and softball, but got the reputation of breaking and no hitter liking the handle. everyone bought them and regripped them straight away

**** Does anybody remember an “EASTON” bat with black with red lettering, however this bat (that I hit my first over the fence homer with) had ~ a kind of ‘see-through’ film wrap, around the barrel at the sweet spot..? It looked just like the black and red reflex, but again, it had this weird kinda gritty almost sandpaper- ish wrap around the sweet spot..?

The Easton Zcore hybrid “torq” was nasty (once you taped over the spinny handle)

It creates really bad habits, it can prevent roll overs which screws you over for wood bats, or just any other bat that doesn't have the spinny handle. Bat itself might be pretty good but the spinny handle is just awful. A lot worse for younger hitters for sure

I remember getting the USSSA version when they first came out, that thing was the hottest bat that I’ve ever swung or personally seen hit with.

Way late to this but I got my oldest a Torq when they came out. Within a week I fed superglue into the spinning part and gripped over it. Great bat from there on.

Can you retest that TORQ after the handle is untorq’d with glue. Would love to see the numbers once the handle is affixed.

I still have my torque and with the way I line up my knuckles and swing through the ball, it doesn’t spin at all. They way the Easton guys are holding the bat is like trying to hit like Giancarlo Stanton. Open those hands up and you’re golden.

When I was in little league 30 years ago, Easton came out with a ceramic composite bat. It felt great and was easy to swing. Several of my teammates tried it out in practice before I had a chance. As soon as I got a chance to use it, it broke and came unwound on my first hit

Honestly this was one of my favorite bats I’ve ever used. Mine didn’t spin when I swung (it wasn’t broken, I was able to twist is). But it wouldn’t spin when I swung and I felt like I’d crush balls with it

We got this as a team bat the year it came out. First indoor practice we immediately taped it so it wouldn’t move. Worst idea they ever had.

That bat came out just in time for my senior year of high school baseball (2017). One of my teammates had it and The spinny handle didn’t really bother my swing too much and the same went for my teammates. I primarily used that bat as well as a Demarini Voodoo two peice👌

When I coached USSSA one kid had this and he used it for one year only. I think his dad made him use it because it was so expensive. He was the only kid that used it as everyone else thought it was weird.

When i had mine i taped over the whole handle so it wouldn’t spin, i liked the bat bc it had so much pop back in the day

Part of the problem of this bay is probably the fact that it forces people to modify their hitting style in order to take advantage of the claimed benefits of the spinny grip, which goes all the way back to the fundamentals of hitting. It’s like you’re learning to hit all over again while having the muscle memory of using traditional bats.

This was the beginning of the downfall of Easton. The Makos, XL1, & S1 were the best bats at the time. This bat undid all of it. The Torq handle lasted the 2016 and 2017 model years and did not sell at all. Most people would use JB Weld to prevent the handle from spinning and re-grip it.

I played highschool baseball in 2016. Our coach bought us this as a "team bat". Somehow it became a meme for everyone to rub as much pine tar on the handle as humanly possible before every at-bat with the Mako. So pretty soon the handle was just coated with a thick layer of pine tar and so it couldn't rotate anymore. At that point, it was a decent bat, lol

Maybe they needed to have some sort of ratchet or spring that makes it spin a bit less and be firmer in your grip with still letting it rotate slightly..? I haven’t swung it but trying to picture it in my hand, I feel there would be less control with it spinning to free..? Maybe it works with a perfect level swing/particular swing like inside or on CAD, I wonder if it was just a gimmick or even had some engineering put into it?

Ngl I used to like this bat idk why but I used to actually hit well with it (even though it wasn’t mine lmao) until I got the gen 2 mako ( black and green) then I wore the crap out of that bat. And even though it’s a bit sad (I am a small dude) it’s the only bat I have ever hit a homer with. Moving forward a few years to today and ngl I miss it a bit but looking back at it wasn’t really for everyone 😂. Let’s hope Easton revives the mako line I loved those bats

U could always jam the swivel with somethin sorilla glue it & wrap it with hockey tape then a lizard skin , slap a vuk one piece over that, & then stickgrip.. that ought to hold it!

I had the drop ten version of this bat, even back then at 11 i told my dad " we need to tape this handle" its a good bat with a terrible grip.

I’d like to see you practice with the spinny bat and see if it got better over time.

Bought this bat as a bbcor-3 and didn’t know the handle moved😭ended up loving it tho bc it didn’t really spin for me since I already swing fine

I actually bought this bat for 13u, 6 years ago, and I had over 10 home runs with it. Personally I liked it, but everyone else on the team hated it.

I think if we started somebody on a rotating bad, had them get used to it and never touch a "normal" bat, and then waited for them to ascend to MLB level, then theoretically they would be able to hit better than the comparable standard bat, but because any modern player's muscle memory is set for the standard bat, then the rotat-y bat just isn't gonna feel right.

Throw that thing away before it throws off that beautiful swing of yours. I have never seen you drive so many into the infield dirt. Dont pick that thing up again. Please throw it away or donate it to the less fortunate. PEACE Brother

Bought one years ago cheap for my kid with the intent of fixing it. Removed grip, gorilla glued spinner and turned it into a regular Mako. Never know the difference. Still have the bat

I swung this in high school because I couldn’t afford the regular Mako. Taped the handle like you did and made sure it couldn’t spin.

I retaped mine where it wouldn’t spin, -5 in 13/14u USSSA. One of the hottest bats I’ve ever used

I glued mine with resin and electric taped under my normal grip. Best bat I ever had. The barrel was so great. Then I got the mako beast which had good barrel but still wasn’t. As good lol

This is the epitome of over thinking something in the name of innovation, I mean the truth is you're not supposed to squeeze the handle.. your supposed to keep the bat lightly gripped in your fingers, I'm not saying you don't necessarily grip down on it throughout the process of throwing the bat, but to act as if you're unable to get your hands in the ideal position as you begin to throw it as if it's glued into your hands at the top of your swing or even more ridiculous, where you position it while waiting for the pitcher to get through his wind up, as if because your wrists began separated means you can't bring them together without a handle that spins, is just stupid.....

My sweet mother bought me one of these because there was a deal or something and I HATED the spinny handle 😂 Couldn’t even swing it in a game

I'm old... but I was taught to hold the bat so that my knuckles were lined up similar to a golf grip and my bat remained level while I rolled my wrists already.

I in worked at a retail store company that had this bats up Edmonton Alberta Canada for both baseball and softball/slowpitch I didn’t mind it but my hands were to giant for the handle so I would tell people that the barrel is good just tape the torque handle down

I paid that $75, drilled and pinned the handle. My kid pulled it out of the closet this year and used it in a HS game. Makos were work horses.

You should hit with the 2017 black Easton Mako Beast bbcor. I really love that bat.

I had the slowpitch version of this bat and ripped the OG tape off and layered the handle in duct tape around the spinny part and used a different grip over the duct tape. Barrel was stupid hot. The spinny handle was terrible though.

I feel like if there was less give in the spin, i.e. requiring more tension, it would be a better execution. Your hand just slips too easy with how loose it came out the box.

When I used the torq, I put lizard skin over the original tape to prevent it from twisting. Cause the barrel was hot

If you take the taper/bat tape off then wrap it with clear packing tape it completely stops spinning. Then put a vulcan on it. #Untorqed!

i HATED the spinny grip. I never had one but when i swung my friends it was a decent bat but the grip was so annoying

Easy solution: cement glue inside of the little spinny bit so it doesn’t spin anymore. $75 Easton mako

It might work better if the handle didn't spin loose but was spring loaded instead. So it has some give for your hands to rotate.

I broke a Mako playing summer ball and sent it into Easton. They sent me a Torque and it was odd to say the least. I taped the grip solid and the bat snapped at the torque handle.

even when i had this bat after i wore the grip down in 2016-2017 i taped it stuck. everyone i knew that had this bat shattered it

the spin should only be in small increments...nobody rolls their hands that much and it makes you lose the feel of the bat in your hands....sometimes these engineers out think themselves

Next time swing the same with both bats. You are singing much harder with the non spinny bat. The spinny bat you were so lazy on the swing. The non spinner you were snapping and had a hop to it.

I hit with the 32 drop 10 ussa version of this bat last week. Hated the handle but hit a ball over 400ft with it. Hard to believe kids were allowed to use these bats in little league.
