Good video, it'll help a lot when I fir my new Hive. Can I just ask though, at 2:21 what's the brown wire connecting to the earth, surely that's not right ?

Lee, You make that look easy! I have a system with two separate heating zones, separate hot water, and a towel rails on their own program. Will the hive system work on that?

Hey, great vid , I have a thermostat for heating and hot water thermostat bin two different locations. I was wondering how I would set it up. Thanks
@LeeThompson
@LeeThompson 5 лет назад
You can get a multizone version, you would just install a receiver in both your current locations and then a Thermostat in each.

Thanks. I sometimes see "Ready By" on the screen when the thermostat is set to scheduled and infact the heating comes on early. Any advice? Thanks

Great informative video. My heating system is an old style 1, with no working thermostat... On looking at my old programmers wiring, it's quite a bit different to that. Might just get the system and give it a go. You made it look easy!

I also have a gravity fed system with a hot water cylinder. But I don’t want to be restricted to turning the hot water on only at the same time as the heating. Am I not able to time the water separately?

Managed to replace my Drayton timer without changing the backplate. Just got tripped up with the old wall thermostat. Had to bridge the cables to make the signal permanently live then worked fine. Didn’t find this step in the instructions or video

Hi I want to ask if you know to tell me why the thermostat can not be reconnected . I had a power cut and since is not working,I took a battery off and put back also I did reset the wireless and still not working. At the moment I use manual to have hot water and heating.
@shalomsam5159
@shalomsam5159 3 года назад
Had a similar sort of problem. Best check the lights on the receiver when you reset it. If it is failing to flash once instead of twice. It will need replacing. Had mine replaced for less than £30 from hive themselves and now it all works fine

No. But u can set up insurance with Hive for Hardware replacement. About 2 quid a month, otherwise no monthly fees.

I’m looking online at getting Hive and some packages offer with the hub and some without the hub, I know the hub connects directly to the router but what does this do and what functionality do you gain by having the hub vs without? I’m confused, please help 😁
@LeeThompson
@LeeThompson 4 года назад
The hub is what allows you to control everything from the app and is the "smart" element of the system. Without the hub you wouldn't be able to control the devices over the Internet.

Great video. Can you tell me if the thermostat makes any kind of noise when its switch on and off? Currently the units I have make a loud click each time they switch.
@LeeThompson
@LeeThompson 5 лет назад
The Thermostat doesn't make any noise. The receiver however does make a click sound when it turns on and off. You really only hear it if you are In the same room as it.
@Mister_H
@Mister_H 5 лет назад
Thanks very much for getting back so quickly. Great that the only noise is on the receiver which will be in the kitchen. Currently have a dual zone setup so having a thermostat clicking in the bedroom is really annoying, even the one in the hall annoys me.

Great video! this may sound like a silly question but do all boilers have a programmer? I can only recall seeing diallers on my actual boiler but no external timer/programmer (I only just moved in to my new home so haven't checked thoroughly if there is, and I wont be able to check until next week)And if there is no external programmer/timer then will Hive still be compatible?
@LewisBrain
@LewisBrain 4 года назад
No not all do mine has no external programmer. Mine was all manual. My reciver goes in the boiler cupboard and the thermostat where ever I want it. I plan to fix mine to the chimley breast once painted.

Hi Lee and all Having just moved into a house with Hive and getting used to it, one question my wife keeps asking is how do I increase the hot water temperature ( for shower purposes)?
@BostonJetWash
@BostonJetWash 2 года назад
I don't have a hive so I have no idea if you can do it on that or not but all the boilers I have had you can adjust the hot water setting on the boiler to adjust the temperature to what you want.
@TheKarenohara
@TheKarenohara 2 года назад
As Chris said, there is usual a thermostat on your boiler (mine is in my hot water tank) you can adjust that to the temperature required.

The way you have fitted the WiFi stat ... you would need to leave the existing room stat permanently turned up to maximum for the WiFi stat to work.
@anwah100

Probably know the answer but I'll ask for those wondering: If you've no router and/or don't want to tether a router to your mobile and use it that way....this isn't a system for you, yea? Or do they sell a easier system which would simply be a Ni-Cad battery to send a signal (like a PIR for security) thermostat if you're only arsed about on and off and not concerned about showing off on Instagram that you can control from outside the house like some 5 year old finding his lad for the first time.

Why on earth do you need to time your hot water? just leave it on 24/7 and let the hot water cylinder stat do the rest, this is the most ecomonicle way to retain hot water, same applies if you have just an immersion heater, just leave it on 24/7. To switch the heating on remotley might appeal to some but again why bother, if you have spare money spend it on insulation for the house.
