It pays to keep in mind the slightest difference in riding positions, vent positions, visor positions, clothing worn, naked bike, fairing, helmet fit, head and ear shape and size etc can all drastically affect air flow thereby greatly alter noise levels perceived by the individual . Don’t dismiss a great new design based on this opinion of the noise. It is subject to many variables. I personally find it fantastic!
That is a good point that there are numerous aspects that will affect the noise level in the helmet. However, to mitigate their effects, we use the same bike and clothing and to avoid relying on opinion we measured the noise through a decibel meter placed in the ear of the helmet. Though we found our data showed it as noisy in the end, it's still an excellent helmet in other ways, especially considering it's a fiberglass helmet that has a great price and field of view. I have the f70 and I love the fit, feeling of the fabric, and the look. It isnt that quiet honestly but I have the speaker system inside there so I'd like to think that helps isolate some noise aswell
I'm a long time HJC helmet fan, mainly because they always seem to hit that sweet spot on the price-to-performance metric. So I must say that I'm a bit surprised by the mediocre score this helmet received. I guess it doesn't matter now, since I'm watching this a day after I ordered one, having been impressed by the quick rundown on it by Ryan over at Fortnine. Reasons I think it's a good buy: Fiberglass composite shell offerings are relatively sparse for this money, good visibility, flip down sun visor, removable breath guard.
Though we were hoping for a stronger performance from the F70, it is still a decent option. According to our latest rankings, it does score well thanks to its decent ventilation performance, great field of view, and it is still a bargain considering its price and fiberglass outer shell. Hace unos días compré uno igual. Lo probé en ciudad y funciona perfectamente. Aisla muy bien los sonidos exteriores y la visera solar y el pinlock funciona de maravillas. Ahora en ruta el problema es el zumbido y el remolino que provoca arriba de 130 km....es insoportable. Además las ventilaciones tampoco se pueden usar porque generan mucho ruido. Si bien parece muy buen casco yo en cierto modo me sentí defraudado
Thanks for letting us know how you found the F70! When we took the helmet on the road, we also found it was very loud despite its aerodynamic look and design, which was a bit of a let down. Besides noise how did you find the F70?
Oops! I purchased this helmet and after using it for the first time, I suspected whether the noise was a manufacturing defect (too much noise :( ). While researching, I found your video. Unfortunately, the issue isn't unique to me. The helmet looks and feels great, but this noise is indeed a significant concern. Nevertheless, thanks to you, I watched a nice review and learned that the problem isn't specific to me. Thank you. (*Additionally, the sun visor turned out to have a manufacturing defect. It has a blurry appearance. I have contacted HJC and am awaiting their response... Unfortunate occurrences.)
Thanks for the comment! For the ventilation, both would be about the same (we recorded 3 degrees of difference for both). For visibility, our rider found they had a similar field of view, though he preferred the RPHA. So overall, we'd recommend the RPHA 70 since it does generally perform better, and is much more comfortable. Did any of the F70 road test results surprise you?
Thanks for the good review. I was actually looking to buy this helmet but the review makes me doubt. What would you advice as a better alternative helmet at this price point and with the same features (including fibreglass material), but with better performance? I've read the comment/suggestions about the AGV K3 SV or the Nolan N87 Plus, but these are not made from the more durable and stronger fibreglass material. Thanks for the feedback! The best alternative at a similar price would be the Shark Spartan or Shark Spartan GT. Though it is priced slightly higher, it performs much better on the road while still being made of fiberglass and having the same features. Other than this, the F70 is the main quality fiberglass helmet in this price range, with the rest mainly being polycarbonate. Thanks for the question! The answer would mainly depend on what sort of riding posture you have. Both have great fields of view. However, while the K1 is designed for a more forward position, the F70 has been designed to be worn more upright

I was thinking about this helmet to replace my Shoei X-11. But the noise level is putting me off. The other choice I was looking at AGV K5 SV but customer reviews of that helmet indicates it has a lot of wind noise. Is the AGV K3 quieter or louder than the K5. Thank you.
When we road tested the K3-SV, it came out with the same level of noise as the F-70, with about 105 dB. Of these three, we would probably go with K5-S for it's features and strong shell. However, of the helmets that we've tested in this range, the best one for noise isolation we've found has been the Nolan N87 Plus. Though it has a less aggressive style, it's made of a high-quality Lexan polycarbonate, has an internal sun visor, and was about 102 dB at highway speed. @@Championhelmets I liked the features and styling of the F70. I think I'm going to go up a class to the Shoei GT Air II. The 97 db rating and interior visor are nice. I'm looking for quiet and an internal visor. I ride a Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe. Is there anything else in the GT Air II class I should look at? Thanks
@Lane Northup If you're looking for a quiet helmet, then the Shoei GT Air 2 would be the best way to go. The only other helmet we've road tested that has matched this was the HJC RPHA 70, but it did not ventilate as well as the Shoei. Ive been wearing a shoei xr 1000 for several years which has been excellent. i recall at the time i bought it, trying to assess alternatives and actually found a HJC F15 i think it was, (thats how far im going back) being just as comfortable in fairness, but just lacking that overall quality in places and the shoei just felt better built but by a small margin. However im now in the market again and this time looking for quietness and im interested to see if HJC have moved up a gear regarding overall quality. For comfort i would imagine they more than hold up to shoei but its the little things like quality of vents and visor fixings etc il be looking at. Id like to give HJC a chance this time round. The i-90 is slightly lighter in a size M and will be the closest in price to the IS-Max 2. The Nolan is about the same weight but will be a bit more upscale and approaches the middle of the market a bit more
The F70 would probably fit between the i 70 and the RPHA 70, so a mid-range helmet. It was a bit disappointing in performance, but it does still fit between the two. Thanks for the comment! What HJC would you go for?
@@Championhelmets Well, we had CS R1, CS 14, FG17 and RPHA ST. Now my FG needs replecement. I would go for F70 in metal black. Just because I really like that raised breath deflector. Im not fan of graphics, for just 50 more you could have awesome black or white RPHA 70 comparing to F70 in some graphics. When F70 gets discounted it will be good deal.
