im late. stupid youtube. anyway, finally one of the best K9 type zoids! thanks to you we have a pretty good idea of what we would get for buying this kit. I'm always very grateful to you for making these types of content.
I recently got mine at my local hobby store. I already pre ordered the Dual Sniper Cannon parts. And his custom paint job is well underway. Using Tamiya Color for it. Using Gold, Silver Leaf, Pearl White, and Metallic Black.
Sorry to hear about the phone issue you're having but I do appreciate the video. I managed to be the first to like it! I'm not a big fan of the HMM kits because the few I've owned and built have given me a lot of trouble. Like you said they're spindly and sometimes over-engineered so even though the finished products to LOOK cool, I often don't enjoy the build process. Konig Wolf never was one of my favorites but I'm glad to see that the HMM has been able to improve on a lot of the issues that previous designs have had and it seems to be a very good indicator of what's to come. I'm hoping Dark Spiner is next and that he blows this one out of the water!
The engineering of these kits has improved a ton over the years. Obviously I can't give you any solid comparisons without knowing what you've actually build, but really all the recent releases have been very good in that department, so if anything comes out that you actually like the look of, my guess is it's worth giving the line another shot.
@@spacehamsterZH I've built the Shield Liger MK-II which is the big offender. I have owned a Geno Saurer that was pre-built and fallen apart when I got it so I gave it away. Because, even with the instructions, I wasn't going to try to build it with no frames. Currently building an STK bootleg of the Zero Schneider and it's been pretty aggravating with parts that don't fit together perfectly. I am maybe halfway through the build but I'm worried I might need to supplement it with an official Koto kit because the rubbery socket for the feet won't fit into the plastic halves of the feet.
@@davidperdue7541 okay, I haven't actually built my own SL Mk-II, but it's probably similar (and possibly slightly worse) than the Blade Liger, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'm pretty sure that's one of the worst in terms of just the build being fiddly end the end result fragile... and the Geno Saurer is possibly THE worst. I love the kit because it's just so, so pretty when it's done, but building it is an absolute nightmare. Honestly, pretty much ANY other HMM you could pick up is going to be better than those. The Kotobukiya LZ is also totally fine, whatever problems you're having with that one are because it's a bootleg.
@@spacehamsterZH With regard to the LZ, that's what I'm thinking and that I probably need to do some part swapping with an official Koto kit to finish it off properly. I have the main body built and I want to at least try to get the legs. If I can do that then I will probably move on to the armaments and just see what I can do. If it really is just down to the feet I can probably find a workaround for it. The Wild Liger is one I've had my eye on to try someday because I think it's a really good adaptation of the model.
@@davidperdue7541 The Wild Liger's a totally fine HMM kit if you like the look of it. It does have a few tiny issues with parts falling off, but nothing a dot of glue won't fix, and certainly no overengineered sections and other similar issues.
There's a few people on here doing Zoid reviews but when I want the ultimate review this is it. 👍. I was gutted to see there's no perishable rubber straps with this kit as with the Hasbro version. 😂. I'm not that fussed about the "battery powered version" but this really looks appealing, nice one Kotobukiya.
Well, the good news is, the rubber bits on my Tomy Wolf are actually all still intact. Maybe it's because they're so thin or I just got lucky. I've had the rubber tubes on Heldigunner and (more depressingly) Deathpion/Zargam break plenty...
@@spacehamsterZH the spring mod for 'Heldigunner' is a great mod, thanks for that tip, time definitely is not kind to some of the rubber parts unless it's sealed in the original packing. Obtained a 'Killer Dome' the other day, must be one of the daftest zoids ever especially when mounted on 'Dark Spiner', what a crazy idea!
@@grahamsmith2022 hahaha. I already complained about the Killer Dome when it came out because it didn't have a proper motor, and then Tomy followed that up with Blox... sigh.
Kotobukiya did just do an HMM version of the Redler, specifically in the 80s color scheme. But I doubt we'll see any more straight reissues of the 80s kits, I think there are real technological problems there at this point.
Any idea if the dual sniper can be mounted to a regular Tomy version of the konig wolf? I’ve noticed a few different adapters included for other applications.
Sadly no. The additional adapter pieces that come with the kit are for other Kotobukiya models, none of them will fit the motorized KW - I'm sure you could modify one of them to work, but out of the box it won't fit.
Oh yeah, well spotted, those are just for show. Kotobukiya rarely has actual working pistons on anything... off the top of my head I actually can't think of a kit that has them.
@@spacehamsterZH correct me if I’m wrong but the Sturm Tyrann and Lightning Saix had them. Not sure about my Liger Zero Jager coz I’ve yet to get started on that 😆
@@sweetpotato6529 I just checked those kits and I'm not finding any, so unless I'm not looking in the wrong places, they ARE made of two pieces, but they don't actually do anything.
@@petsgamesandrobots438 oh, that's right! I had this nagging feeling I was forgetting something around the legs and actually pulled up the building instructions just to check, but I must've looked at the wrong pages. Thanks!
Currently building this one and am currently working on the chest piece I think. Is part T4 supposed to slide or something because mine doesn’t. Just thought I’d ask here before I did any unnecessary sanding.
I think I may already have answered this on Facebook or at least I think I've seen you ask this question there, but I don't think that part is meant to slide.
Honestly, I've just come to accept it. Yeah, they're not as durable as styrene, but given the variance in Kotobukiya's parts fit where the parts don't connect with polycaps, I don't think they could pull it off reliably. Although the Cannontortoise didn't have PCs, so there's that.
