I'l tell you this about the Monster Hunter Zoids, if I could only get one of the two, it would definitely be the Sonic Bird, so good choice there. I think I know what happened with the head. They elongated the torso to be more realistic, and to make room for blades (or in the case of the original use of the body, the flip-out missile pods, or planning for the fins on liger zero) and limb fins all clashing with each other, and that involved moving the shoulders further forward, and that put them in the way of the mane pieces. So they shrank the mane pieces down, but then the head looked wrong. so they shrank the whole head. What they SHOULD have done is.. make the torso longer? fine. Now make the NECK longer to match.
@spacehamsterZH
@spacehamsterZH 24 дня назад
Also, if that's the reason, it didn't work because the Shield Liger, which is what the whole basic platform was originally designed for... kept getting its mane caught on the legs.

As I was watching the build… I was actually quite pleasantly surprised at how it seemed to gain mass as it went together. This was, like pretty much all of the wild line, not particularly one that I would actually spend any money on. And while you kind of built it up a bit and I’m watching your videos kind of in reverse, I saw your point! While it made never dethrone the Gorgon/Gordos, and while it looks like a completely different species of stegosaur. I think I have to agree with you that it has quite a bit of merit. The motion is very smooth as you often comment on, and the wild mode seems to be well, pretty kick ass . While I could get used to the fact that it’s not the same species of stegosaur as the Gordos, I don’t know… It’s just not visually stimulating. Throughout your “wild” videos, you speak about the “armor pieces“ On this model, it just seems more like a soldier going into battle with little more than a helmet and a cup. And maybe some shoulder pads. There’s just not a lot of substance there. But I can say that I think very much differently about this model now. It may not go to the front burner, especially with all of the new stuff coming out, but it would be a nice addition to have in my lineup of stegosaurs. If only they would make a proper Bio - Kendro! Thanks for the video, it was great Mike.

The point could be made that the Gordos had even less armor, though. Anyway, looking at this thing again now, I think it's still my favorite out of the early ZW models. I’m just watching some of your older Zoids videos. I have not built this one, but I did build the gabrigator. The two seemed pretty much identical, as I’ve also read in the comments for this video. I think the one thing that stands out to me about these two models is just the minuscule scale of the feet and legs. They just don’t seem very imposing. You may not like dimetrodon, but it’s one of my old favorites. I don’t know. Call me wacky, but I really like the underdog Zoids a lot more than I like the mainstream stuff. I bought my first Metreon in Philippines, it was one of the chrome versions. I ended up putting super cannons on it, and well, as a paleontologist I’ve always liked the dimetrodon. I don’t presently have a gator, but I would like to get one. as for the mainstream stuff, I would probably choose thepachilocetus over the raptor, for instance. As for truncating the video, I think it was a good idea if you believe that it’s a similar build to one you’ve already done. In wild blast mode this model reminds me more of a flying Zoid? Or maybe one of those ancient aquatic AnthroPods? Anywhere quite enjoy your builds and your videos are very well done. I’ll continue to peruse them and give thumbs up. While I would love to fund your continued success, ha ha ha, us retired, military guys work on a fixed income. But if there’s one platform I would give to, it would likely be yours. I’ve also seen that you’re a member of a few of the same Facebook pages I am, as well as the phenotype forums. While I started collecting Zoids in the 80s, I didn’t realize there was such a following until the millennia! Pleasantly surprised.

That's very difficult to say because the exact shade of purple you end up with depends on so many things. I was really happy with this one when I got it. Chaotic Century is my favourite Zoids anime (I mean, *of course* it is) but Genesis is the one I feel like I can recommend to people who aren't necessarily fans of Zoids. I mean, if there was a reasonable way to watch it, anyway. The full-colour center page with all the lore deets in the center of the manual also has a section that goes into some of the design considerations for the AZ version, and one thing that was called out there was the colour choice. The armour on the original is that standard blue colour, while the lighting in Genesis practically makes it look green. For the AZ kit they wanted to split the difference, and I guess someone along the process decided they were going all out with it so we got that gorgeous metallic plastic instead of, like, dull teal as it very well could have ended up. Funny enough I only knew the front-leg pile bunkers were a thing (are they _ever_ used or acknowledged in the anime?) because this one Japanese online secondhand retailer I used to check a few times a week had a bunch of silver chrome customize parts of them for the original model.

Which reminds me that I need to try and find just that sometime. It always did seem pretty cool and maybe a bit less squarely directed at kids than CC was.

@@unworthyBeatrix If you don't mind my chiming in, I think the Hayate Liger also has the Pile Bunkers on its legs and I remember them being used in the fight where Bio Volcano is introduced. He uses them to make a very sudden direction change into a stop. The momentum carries him in a spin but it ends very quickly. I suppose it's the next step in the evolution of Liger-type Zoids, allowing their mobility to be sharper and more responsive than even the Liger Zero's. In the game Zoids: Full Metal Crash, Murasame Liger uses them in the end of his standard attack combo where he forces his paw forward like a palm strike and fires off the Bunkers to add an extra oomf to the attack that give the opponent a pretty heavy knockback. The anime didn't reflect this but I suppose it has combat uses on top of mobility enhancement.

Absolutely fabulous, what a terrific paint job,those Vallejo metallics look superb out of an airbrush.I think Tamiya acrylics are also great quality for their metallics but ive heard Vallejo paints work better in an airbrush and i love that light grey/blue colour.👍,as you say a kit can look perfect until its painted and then it highlights all the blemishes and mold lines!!

Vallejo Metal Color are the best acrylic metallics out there, bar none. They also work extremely well just brushed on, I use them on all my Warhammer models. If you want a better metallic look, you have to use lacquer paints. Tamiya's are good too, though, and I just love the titanium gold, that's been a staple of all my paintjobs forever.

@spacehamsterZH that's really good to know,one of these day's I might buy an airbrush but it's good to know they can be brushed on as well. These Kotobukiya kits are a bit too expensive and frankly too good for me to be learning airbrushing on.I used to love those lead miniatures from 'Citadel',very small and difficult to paint but I was quite happy with a few of them I painted.

Gusoku is looking so good. The colors you chose definitely give it a more militaristic feel for certain. Are you skipping the Phoenix because of Liger fatigue or because you're not a Fuzors fan? I'm expecting both lol It's not a huge deal you aren't covering it since I preordered one for myself anyway, but I do always look forward to your reviews so that could've been fun. I know the AZ Death Saurer is going to really have a lot of bang for its buck, so I'll be happy to wait for THAT instead.

Hahaha, yeah, it's pretty much both. I know a lot of people who were into Fuzors love the LZ Phoenix and the actual kit looks like IF you're one of those people, it's fantastic, but I just have so little interest in it that I didn't even want to buy it just for the review, especially given how expensive it is. @@davidperdue7541 honestly, I've had a couple of ideas for Deathsaurer repaints for years, and I've got an MIB one, but at this point I don't know if I wouldn't rather keep that one unbuilt in case I ever need spare parts. One thing I've always wanted to do was a militaristic desert color scheme kind of like what I did with the Death Stinger a million years ago, possibly with a big shoulder-mounted cannon, and I'm thinking I might do that. Another one would be to recreate the OER color scheme that never went into production, but that would really have to be with the original kit.

I'm sure you won't be surprised to know the 40th Anniversary 'Death Saurer' is not simply the OJR/NJR kit re-released,I'm pretty sure it's much smaller for one thing and the rubber caps have gone. I don't know where it will be possible to obtain one from as HLJ don't seem to be listing it for pre‐order.It does look cool but not as awesome as the original.
@spacehamsterZH

It's a TT Mall exclusive, HLJ doesn't carry those - you can preorder it from Amiami and Nin-Nin game. It's expensive, but it looks frickin' awesome. Obviously a completely new kit from the ground up because, as I've been saying for years at this point, I don't have a source for this, but I'd be very, very surprised if the old molds weren't basically busted at this point.

@spacehamsterZH ah,thanks for that information bud,it does look awesome but probably no more awesome than the original, as you say those molds have a limited life and new regulations to do with safety etc come into play,but it's safe to say that we're extremely unlikely to see any of the "original " Tomy Zoids re-released,even with updates and modifications. 👍

I already have the Ogre. I might get this Gojulas anyway. Pre-ordered the Guysak and will be doing the same for the Salamander the instant I can. I mean I’ve already spent a couple thousand on these HMM kits so what’s another $250? What I’m wondering about is I’m going to pre-order the Tomy Death Saurer. I’ve already got $300 saved up and set aside just for that. I don’t think it’s going to be $300 but you never know.

No. Tomy's kits are generally more geared towards being toys-that-you-build, they don't really do undergating and keep everything as simple as possible.

Superb video, my friend, very useful modelling techniques that will come in handy when assembling models of all descriptions, resin has been a popular medium for increased detail for a while now but as you demonstrate, it can have flaws.I particularly like you mentioning the dust mask ,it's not immediately obvious but breathing disorders years down the line are definitely a thing to avoid.👍. . .
@spacehamsterZH
@spacehamsterZH 6 месяцев назад
Honestly, I think plastic casting has long been caught up with what you can do with resin in terms of detail. One big advantage these days is that you can make bigger parts in one piece because the molds are made of silicone and can be bent, and of course it's far more low-tech, which is why this sort of garage stuff still always comes in resin. And yeah, you only have one set of lungs. Don't ruin them to make models.
@grahamsmith2022
@grahamsmith2022 6 месяцев назад
@@spacehamsterZH yes, you're absolutely right, I remember 'Airfix' model aeroplane kits in the '70' s and some of the detailing was not brilliant, even though it was better than most other brands but now the plastic kits have really come on in leaps and bounds, I think the Kotobukiya Zoids are very well made kits, I've heard Ban-Dai kits are even better.
@spacehamsterZH
@spacehamsterZH 6 месяцев назад
@@grahamsmith2022 Bandai is pretty much the gold standard. Their kits have essentially zero imperfections anymore, like literally no mold lines whatsoever, and parts fit is reliably always 100% perfect. They're so far ahead of the competition that they actually kind of ruin other brands for people because coming from Bandai stuff, everyone else's kits seem flawed. Even Kotobukiya's aren't nearly as good, just in terms of objective quality - the plastic is brittle, the parts fit often too tight. Weak and shallow detail is pretty much over, though. You just don't find that on modern plastic kits anymore.
@grahamsmith2022
@grahamsmith2022 6 месяцев назад
@spacehamsterZH compared to some of the model plane,car,motorcycle kits I built with my Dad as a child in the '70's the Kotobukiya Zoid kits are like engineering masterpieces so I can only imagine how good the Ban-Dai kits are,it's a bit of a shame in some ways that it is crucial to paint the HMM Zoid kits as they are expensive and some are very large coupled with the paint will hinder the movements of the kit but they look pretty damn lousy unpainted. I'm sure you have the hilariously named HMM Guysack on order,I know I have although I think it will have to be painted OER colours to hide that nasty brown colour scheme!
@spacehamsterZH
@spacehamsterZH 6 месяцев назад
I'm typically able to keep my kits reasonably poseable, but tbqh I think the best thing to do is to decide on a pose and then just paint it that way. The reality in the end is that the kits are just going to go in a cabinet where you never touch them again. That also saves a massive amount of time because you don't have to paint every little piece individually. But it is fun to have fully poseable painted kits as well, of course, so I'm always a bit torn. As for the HMM Guysack, I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with a blue version eventually - IIRC the OJR had those same colors, the brown is just what the NJR looks like and that's what sells best, so they always do those colors first. Don't forget the Redler was also released in two versions with one of them in the 80s colors (which also actually matched the OER Zolkon, incidentally.)
