@Drew Peacock Though not as Heavily armed as the new type 26 the Type 31 Light Frigate will have pretty good armaments, similar to US frigates, plus the 5 Type 32 (likely refined versions of the type 31) is going to provide a versatile force 18 frigates will be the most we have had in 30-40 years ( the 31 isn't woefully armed its similar to the current type 23 frigates with the exception of a large cannon for beach landing support ) it still has Anti air anti sub torpedo's and 3 main cannons attack helicopter and patrol vessels plus electronic counter measures the type 31 is smaller than the type 26 and far lighter)
It's a lightweight vessels and if the draught doesn't permit then the marines on board could always scan the numerous inlets the Falklands has on the smaller boats carried by this ship- I suppose having an type 45 stationed there made far more sense , but they are needed to protect the Queen Elizabeth carriers and now they (the carriers) are coming into service soon then there is always the detterant factor that Wasn't there in 1982. So all in all it appears it makes sense especially as it can also land a large helicopter on the deck too.
Yep, only a light, fast patrol vessel for gaurding fishing lanes and watching over oil-rigs and the like mind, isn't a full-on warship nor intended to take them on
@@dundonrl agreed, although if attacked by something relatively small like herself she wouldn't NEED to call the others in lol, a 30mm Bushmaster auto-cannon can do pretty nasty things to a small boat...
Armed with just one 30mm cannon & a few machines guns this little gunboat has about the same punch as an old Warrior personnel carrier - at 24knots max is a lot slower - near useless unless it has an armed merlin on board
David Houseman yet it’s the only ship permanently stationed to protect the Falklands. The few warships we have only visit as we simply don’t have enough.
Yes it IS though so what's so penny-pinching about it, that's a 30mm Bushmaster autocannon, it'll shred any Somali or Iranian speed-boat in seconds and can indeed be fired from under-cover
