It looks beautiful! I'm in electronics and I've had soldering irons and never realized I can use them to soften glue and bend planks with, thanks for another great tip. It's a pleasure to watch someone work with such skill.
YAY Olha! So good to see you starting another new project. If I may, I'd like to ask why you don't use an airbrush to do a lot of the painting. For me, it was much quicker, and provided a more even coat. The paints that I used were all flattened a bit - I was doing HO scale rail cars and engines. But I'm sure a lot of the paints would work well with your fleet.
The fact is that wooden ship modeling does not require as much painting as plastic models (where the quality of the model depends on 90% of the quality of painting, tinting, patination and weathering of paints...) Therefore, I use only paints for ship modeling, which are easily applied. with a brush. Or if it's a painted hull (and this period is not on my list of favorite ships) then I can use spray paint... So I don't even have an airbrush (because in fact I can use it once every 3-4 years, not more often )!
@@OlhaBatchvarov Thanks for the rapid response. I do know what you mean by only using an airbrush once in 3-4 years, mine was the same way. Then a customer wanted a baked-on camo paint job - for me, the only way to do as he wanted was to open up the box where compressor was stored. Took me half an hour to remember where I had stowed it, In the days of these sailing craft, ships were generally identified as: "That's the Bum Bird, 26 guns" So, how many guns did your HMS Pegasus have? How about Lord Nelson's? I do find your sub-titles fun - English, of course, and also familiar with most of the "romance" languages. Russian, now: Yikes! But I can spell a place to eat on this keyboard: "PECTOPAH", which, oddly, is pronounced almost as we do! Back to the #3 workbench - making a new stock for an 1850 double-barreled 10 gauge.
Another great lesson on how to do a neat building job. When you talk about tools for the shipbuilding "man" I must presume that all the ladies know the right tools to have, ahead of us men at least you certainly seem too. The use of the soldering iron was a real good idea.
I made a pirate ship out of wood but without a model I was confused and then looked for a suitable model, and the end of your ship is very similar to mine
Olha, your work is so amazing and precise. I wish I could make something like these. Your beautiful work and so very skilled mastery of the rigging are just beyond words, my dear. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
I takes more then ordinary skill to do these models, but then to do them in the awkward positions to allow the camera the perfect shot is truly amazing. Bravo Olha!
Olha thanks so much for your videos. I've learned a lot. I thought it was interesting you used Bondo to fill low areas. Maybe I can share something of use: As bondo dries but right before it fully cures there is a point when the bondo is plastic. If you get it at this point you can rough shape with #80 sandpaper or a rasp with very little effort. Then you can finish it when it is fully cured. Second, there is a car restoration products company called Eastwood that makes a filler similar to bondo but MUCH better. Hope this is useful.
Young lady, you are an extraordinarily talented modeller. I have enjoyed watching your videos so much, I have decided to dip a toe into the world of timber model shipbuilding myself and have spent many hours watching you go through various steps of various builds. Keep up the great work.
Thank you very much! I'm so glad you liked it! It inspires me to keep creating content! Because filming and editing takes twice as long as building models. That's where maybe I should think to save time)))) but not on the quality of models...
Просто замечательно! Я наконец тоже приступил к постройке FLY, буду следовать „по пятам“, правда задумал еще сделать кормовую каюту с освещением, не знаю получится ли. Буду с нетерпением ждать следующего Вашего видео.
Very nice to see, how much care goes in the underlying structure of the hull. The keel is segmented due to the production process of the model parts. I was wondering how that seems can be hidden in the final model. Wood filler makes it more visible that before. :-(
But no - this is not a production process - this is a real "lock" (scarph) on the keel! There were no such giant trees in nature, so shipbuilders made such joints with Scarphs...
I have said this many time now.... your work technique awe inspiring. Never thought of using soldering iron to secure the planks... again I thank you for taking the time to share your skills.
That is again a really amazing video Olha ! So nice to see how you proceed to make the hull so smooth. Really enjoyed it as always. I am every time impressed on how you manage to show us how to do things.
I write all the materials in the subtitles, if I do not show in the video. And even more detailed information is described in the blog - a link in the description under the video...
Olha, not sure if you have ever tried this, but grandpa showed me this when I was little. Helped him in shop when he would do wood working. He would take the dust from sanding, mix with Elmers white glue and make a paste and fill in cracks with this. Always used same dust he was filling in crack with. When dry would sand and have a matching color. Just would depend on wood he was using. Sand that piece of wood and use the dust from that to make paste to match wood. Just was curious if you had ever tried doing that?
Yes I know this method! It can be useful for gaps between the planks but not as a putty. When you start to sanding it the glue is heated by friction and sticks to the sandpaper and the surface of this is also not perfect. I made this mistake somehow and suffered for a long time after that until I made a smooth surface...
Understand, but back in the 60's did not have all the power tools they have today and also my grand pa did every thing by hand. Files, sand paper, and saws was all he knew.
Cпасибо! Если он дастаточно гарячий что б приваривать клей, то почему б и не спользовать его тоже. Но специяально покупать только для експеримента я б не стала - паяльник многофункциональня "штука" в судомоделизме!
I think you are talking about a nail pusher. Next time mark the minute, because I often improvise and make my own tools too. I just don't remember what exactly I did on this model...
@@OlhaBatchvarov ive had much the same problem with most scale models; nails, rivets, and seams rarely come close to being right. Thank you for your reply back.
