To the Royal Navy Task Force, including the aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth, welcome to Japan. I would like to express my utmost respect for the Royal Navy in fulfilling Operation Freedom of Navigation. We look forward to the day when we can welcome you. If Japan and Britain work together, we can solve many of the problems facing the world. Now is the time to revive the Anglo-Japanese alliance.

Bet the Americans are enjoying their time aboard. Although Nimitz are bigger, they always seem to be much more cluttered, everytime I see footage, compared to all the space on this carrier. Also queen Elizabeth seems to have a more relaxed attitude... Probably different when the cameras are not rolling I suppose

@@sparkiegaz3613 ok. You know nothing about my education in marine architecture. You also know nothing about my associations with serving Naval personnel and at BAE systems. You are clearly an expert Armchair Admiral or more likely a troll. A carrier capable of only 25 knots is not much better than a ferry. Explain why her shafts would "pop" at 32 knots. I know most of the ship is classified but shame we could not see the weapons bay area and the huge hanger with the f35 and apache are maybe Russia is taking notes. But sorry to say and I have said this many times,but both carriers do need more self defence weapons system 4 cwis is not alot of last resort protection and yes she or both carriers don't sail alone escort by type 45 destroyers but the carriers do need extra protection as weapons don't have unlimited ammo the destroyers still have to protect them self as well as the carriers too. The USA do have 2x the protection on there carriers even have missiles launcher system on it and this is the USA 19 times bigger navy then the UK navy is so that alone tell you somethink.
@Kav.
@Kav. 3 года назад
@Bobo Mbutu hypersonic missiles can and have been shot down. I wish people would stop pretending they are perfect weapons, it's very cringe. If hypersonic weapons made carriers obsolete then China and Russia would not both be investing large amounts of money in making new ones.
@Kav.
@Kav. 3 года назад
The carriers have 3 CIWS guns not 4, which is more than adequate because the bulk of air defence is done by VLS systems on destroyers not by CIWS guns. The SEARAM you are talking about is a different system and is fine, but has very limited ammunition loading to deal with swarms.
@TheLAGopher
@TheLAGopher 2 года назад
You are spot on. If carriers were such a waste of money and can be easily sunk by Russia and China why hasn't the former decommissioned its single rust bucket carrier and why is the latter launching its third carrier in a few months with a fourth under construction? It seems that carriers are only a waste if western countries build them.

@@DancingLedge " Nuclear need to be restocked just as often as non nuclear with provisions and other sundries." Wrong. Nuclear carriers, like the Nimitz class need less replenishments as they don't carry fuel for themselves they have more room for food, jet fuel, and fuel for the entire fleet. " Both HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales will keep 45 days' worth of food in its stores." "The ships normally carrys enough food and supplies to operate for 90 days. Four distilling units enable NIMITZ-class engineers to make over 400,000 gallons of fresh water from seawater a day, for use by the propulsion plants, catapults and crew. The ship carries approximately 3 million gallons of fuel for her aircraft and escorts, and enough weapons and stores for extended operations without replenishment." "Plus we can travel in way more areas where nuclear is banned by the local authorities" Can you list where? I can list more ports nuclear carriers can go to then you can list they can't. Australia allows them. "tourism Minister, Mark McGowan today welcomed more than 5,000 senior officers and crew aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN-68) to Western Australia." Italy? They allow them... "For years a dozen Italian seaports have been decrying the risks they run as bases for nuclear powered or nuclear armed U.S. warships (submarines, aircraft carriers): Augusta, Brindisi, Cagliari, Castellammare di Stabia, Gaeta, La Maddalena, La Spezia, Livorno, Napoli, Taranto, Trieste, Venezia." Germany? The UK? France? "Nimitz conducted her second abnormally dangerous navigational detail of the deployment as she transited the English Channel (with its high volume of shipping) en route from Wilhelmshaven, West Germany, to Brest, France." Japan? "Ronald Reagan made five deployments to the Pacific and Middle East between 2006 and 2011 while based at Naval Air Station North Island. In October 2015, Ronald Reagan replaced USS George Washington as the flagship of Carrier Strike Group Five, the only forward-based carrier strike group home-ported at Yokosuka, Japan, as part of the United States Seventh Fleet" South Korea? "U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Michael D. White, the commander of Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 11 and Rear Adm. William McQuilkin, the commander of U.S. Naval Forces Korea, pose with local dignitaries aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) in Busan, " USS Nimitz transition Suez Canal. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W_HOjxu8nB8.html&ab_channel=U.S.Navy India? "The carrier departed North Island for its thirteenth deployment on 2 April 2007 to the Arabian Sea, relieving USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in support of OIF. It anchored off Chennai, India on 2 July 2007 as part of efforts to expand bilateral defense cooperation between India and the United States." 25-29 May 1991: Nimitz anchored at Dubai 11-12 Mar 1993: Nimitz sailed through the Strait of Malacca 18 Jun 1993: Nimitz sailed outbound through the Strait of Hormuz into the Arabian Sea 13-14 Feb 1998: Nimitz anchored off Port Suez, Egypt, and passed through the Suez Canal 21-23 Apr 1985: Nimitz anchored in Augusta Bay, Sicily, to turn over to Dwight D. @@DancingLedge "you still haven’t addressed the decommissioning issue." There is no issue. You would also have 30+ years to figure it out before you would move onto the next one. Or ask your allies how we do it. "Enterprise was the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to be decommissioned. Naval enthusiasts requested that Enterprise be converted into a museum. In October 2014, Newport News Shipbuilding announced that one of Enterprise's anchors, removed from the ship during deactivation, had been transferred to the Nimitz-class Abraham Lincoln during her RCOH. In early 2017, it was announced that steel from CVN-65 will be recycled and used to construct CVN-80. The decommissioned USS Enterprise alongside her replacement, USS Gerald R. Ford, at Newport News, July 2018 The final reactor was defueled in December 2016, with decommissioning on 3 February 2017. The same day, the ship was stricken from the Naval Vessel Registry (NVR)." "Or the mid life refuelling" What about the midlife refueling? Every 20 or so years they need to be refueled and maintained. That is much better then maintenance on conventional engines. The downside is it takes longer, but only needing maintenance/refueling 1 time in your lifetime is huge. "Time periods between ROHs on a ship have varied historically from about 5-20 years (for submarines) to up to 25 years (for Nimitz-class aircraft carriers)." "I’m not rubbishing nuclear carriers. " Seems like you are as I said nothing but positive things in my original comment.

I don’t think so. Have you ever seen the pay scales compared to civilian equivalents? Badly paid they are not. If they do a full “22” the pension is pretty damn good - I have very close experience of that. As for PTSD, certainly a factor. Recently it’s been the RM arm of the Naval Service who certainly had their fair share of PTSD experiences in Op Herrick in previous decade. The back up through the services social services is top quality. Let’s just hope QE returns unscathed this winter and PTSD is a low level and well supported.

Yes, I’ve seen the pay scales, received my pay in the military for 15 years! Paid top whack for rent on a house I had no option on. Fuel and light? Often run two homes, the one I lived in and the one my wife and kids lived in. Nothing cheap or free! The military pension is scandalous! Only mistake I made, is I should gave left the Army sooner. Very few soldiers own their own homes whilst in service, so their pension after 22 years just goes on a home for their family. They are often just climbing onto the property market with huge mortgages at 40+ yrs old. Their civilian equivalent is way ahead of them. I meet up regularly with the soldiers I served with, we enjoyed our service, but regret it too! We aren’t/weren’t whingers, we just deserved better. Much better! If you think that all us rosey in the garden for soldiers who have served their time? Tell me why so many leave with PTSD? Why such skilled men and women can;t settle down into decent jobs, or get a mortgage let alone afford one. Why so many military homeless, living rough? That’s without talking about those with loss of limbs to be getting on with. I could go on and on, just don’t make out that U.K. military are looked after. They just are NOT!!!

That’s because the Americans can’t deliver them fast enough even though 30 more are on order, with the option to buy more once the initial order is fulfilled. That’s one of the reasons it’s deploying with 10 American F-35s on board but the other is this is a NATO mission with many nations operating within the carrier group. This exercise is party designed to assess interoperability between nations. So thanks for your comment but it’s a bit short on context 👍🏼

@@raywhitehead730 This is true but no one is talking about a second carrier. Currently they have 21 F-35b’s and are committed to buying 48. This is enough for 2 carriers at a push but not if you account for attrition, maintenance etc so they either have the option to fully equip one carrier and partially another, allowing for other F-35b nations to help. They could also partially equip both carriers allowing for partner nations to their own field F35 on both. Who knows but I doubt the UK will have both carriers deployed far away at the same time Also it looks like they are backing the future Tempest programme over further F35 purchases so again who knows what the future holds. However I do think you will see other F35 nations contributing to future deployments much like the US with this Asia visit. Of course the NATO exercise was contained to the Atlantic, clearly not now they are heading to Asia
