After some neighbors marveled at it, others complained about it and police issued citations, a WWII tank parked on a River Oaks street is now on its way to an east Texas ranch near Texarkana.
Snadzies why just stop at having a Nerf war to control the tank why not use the tank in the nerf war imagian you are 8 you just set up a mg nest and this thing drives up to you depresses the gun and aim a 75mm Nerf dart at your head!
I've been told sometimes it's not an option, especially if they're of the "gated community" folk. It's unusual one of them would have any interest in WWII tanks though.
From the note he seems like a nice guy, ending with to call him if they ever need anything. Don't pick fights with nice neighbors. They are few and far between
Scott Sloop - nah. He just didn’t want people telling him what he can or can not do. Also they interviewed him in another video and he seems pretty chill.
This model is an M4A4 which is gasoline powered, however the M4A2 used a twin inline diesel engine (GM 6046). Of the 49,000+ M4s that we’re manufactured, about 8000 were M4A2s.
How is having a fuss over a Sherman tank un-American? Or even normal? I thought always getting into a fight/debate over things and ended up suing each other is an American thing?
Alexander Christopher a true American never complains about a Sherman tank, as those beautiful machines won WWII for us. Nothing more American than a good ol’ tank. Anyone who says otherwise is clearly a Nazi. Thus HOAs are made of Nazis
Andy T maybe a slight aberration in restoration. Big old gas engines harder to maintain especially 70 year old ones. But likely doesn’t know the difference between the two...
Yea, a Maus. Two made, ever. Major threat to win the war there... Besides, taking the media to task for a stupid lead-in comment is a waste of your time and energy. At least it was a positively framed story, not a hitpiece about a crazed lunatic tank owner.
That's because it's not CNN or NBC, this is a local news channel, if it was there would probably be intense music and scary graphics, with the addition of an "expert" telling you how many people it could kill.
HOA: Blah blah blah safety blah Owner: It's legal. *Court case begins* HOA: [Charlie Brown adult noises] Owner: It's legal. Here it is. I'm going to move it. HOA: We win!!! *Pats themselves in the back* Owner: Because I'mma use this thing for real.
Yep, all the stories it can tell. All to be hated on by "officals" who dont understand what the tank stood for like the rest of the actual community did.
Destroyed 3 bunkers and a Panzer IV in Normandy, 2 self propelled guns east of Paris, a Panther outside of Strasbourg, an armoured half-track and some dismounted infantry in the Ruhr Valley, and a South Texas HOA club house.
and yet as we read this, thousands are signing new home contracts right now while their realtor tells them, "You don't plan on having any livestock do you? Well, it'll be okay... just read through those 350 pages of legal documents tonight and let me know if you have any questions." LOL
This tank most likely never seen Berlin. And most certainly was not in American service. It's an M4A4 Sherman that was sent to the UK in 1943 as part of the Lend Lease program. One of 5000 A4's sent to the UK. With a largely unknown service career of this particular vehicle, it ended its active service as a hard target on an English firing range. It was then recovered in 1994 with three other A4's by R&R Services in the UK and sold to a private collector in Northern Ireland. This owner held the tank and slowly gathered parts for it over a 20 year period. Unable to find the correct engine (a Chrysler 30cylinder engine) he installed a Ford GAA. In the summer of 2014 this tank was then sold to the Normandy Tank Museum who finished the restoration and took it to the 2015 Tanks in Town event in Europe. Shortly after in 2016 the Museum was forced to close and auction many pieces off. And the news video tells the rest of the story. I know this is "that" tank as the owner in Northern Ireland had to make those two exhaust hols in the rear armour to fit the GAA engine, and several weld lines visible on the upper right rear slope of the engine deck where a patch was placed on to repair some of the damage the tank suffered as a range target.
Americans should all smile and give that tank a kiss even, a beautiful piece of history that got most of the people who crewed them home alive. How many allied men got to see families again, or have families because of that tank is impossible to calculate its so vast.
that is why i will never be part of an hoa. localized socialism no thank you. what a great find, but you should tell the reporters Sherman tanks run on regular gas not Diesel. hey they said fully operational, does that include the dinky little 75mm? comparetively speaking. Next time you should try and part a King Tiger out there and really watch the HOA throw a hissy fit.
Forget it. We are keeping our last opperational beasts over here. Greetings from germany(no seriously it's not allowed to sell one of these due to historical property laws in germany)
@@Niitroxyde not anymore. In germany 2 of them are currently restored to opperational Status. One should be completed end of the year and the other one in 2 years.
@Jackie Tearie hey dipshit, I suggest you go back to whatever public school you went to and demand a refund. don't care who started the idea of HOA, socialism is all about centralized government control. News flash, Marx was a capitalist until he couldn't get a job because he was a terrible writer.
HOAs are just nosy bossy neighbors that need to mind their own damn business. I don't normally have much use for attorneys but I am glad this one schooled them.
@Dio Black quite the contrary if the US military vehicles of WWII become decommissioned their guns physically cannot fire because they've either had their firing mechanisms removed or filled in or simply dont have the required ammo
HOA was probably there to begin with. I doubt someone would join one if they didn’t have to. River Oaks is a very old and established community that probably had an HOA long before he moved in. Plus, River Oaks is a super rich neighborhood, has money to buy an expensive tank, has another country home, so he is probably a smart attorney.🤔
jason hicks OTOH, did you see the traffic cones around it? It kinda stuck out (undersized vehicle or not) into traffic lanes. So it was a hazard to the driving public.
He chose to live there. That's why you don't move into an edition with a HOA. A couple of acres just outside of city limits is as good as one can hope for. Close to the urban scene for goods, services, and fun. And outside of their Authoritarian fingertips where you can do and build whatever you like, well for the most part. Planning commission can still rain on your parade in some instances.
My brother has occasional issues with his HOA. I suggested he populate his front yard with the traditional lawn ornament pink flamingos. A tank is a much better symbol of HOA protest.
I was a Bradley mechanic in the Army for 15 yrs. I got to drive and work on some pretty awesome tanks and tracks during my time. And now that I am out. I absolutely miss it. I wish I could drive them and work on them again. Tanks are in my blood now and I love seeing people who have a passion for them as well.
Come on HOA guys, do you have to hit me with the negative waves so early in the morning? Why can’t you say something HOPEFUL and RIGHTEOUS for a change?
There might not anything more American then telling an HOA to buzz off after parking a WW2 tank outside of your house. Like "this thing survived killing nazis and 70 years of God knows what, you really wanna try to move it?"
This tank landed at Normandy , helped liberate France from the Germans and made it's way to Berlin too, the people bitching to get it moved needs a history lesson. I would feel privileged to have it sitting on my street.
Can someone explain to someone like myself, who doesn't live in USA - what are these home owners' associations that constantly meddle with people's property over there? Though you guys were supposed to be the land of the free and whatnot, but it seems like you have more bureaucracy and red tape than some corrupt third world countries when it comes to some things?
The idea behind an HOA is that a neighborhood creates an organization to make up some rules and regulations about things like maintenance and upkeep of your yard and home and what you can and can not do to your home/property and by doing so makes sure the neighborhood looks nice and the property value stays high. The problem with HOAs is, like all governments, they can't leave well enough alone. The people in charge get a taste of power and they lose sight of things and start making more and more rules to control every tiny aspect of you and your home.
Volkier Neigh It's to keep people from bringing down the property value, cars on blocks, PINK house and so on. Thing is, the line was crossed by menopausal females who like to have power over people. Every HOA group I have ever seen, in person or on the news, has been a majority of 45 up females and 1-2 65 year old men who say very little.
Volkier Neigh The US hasn't been truly free since the post-WW2, red-scare days of the Cold War, creating an out of control government that convinced people to trade freedom & privacy for security. Same thing happened after 9/11, on a larger scale.
That is America. Where you can own a tank. Not demilitarized. As a private person. Where I live, even owning a non functional, partly disassembled tank is against the law.
For hunting season what is he hunting Tigers LOL(if you don't get the joke this tank is from ww2 so the Germans had tanks called Panzers and the Panzer VI/6 is the Tiger 1)
A National Private Property Association is needed which charter would be to protect the private property rights of the individual private property owners, thus taking down HOA's.
Man that’s my one dream that I wish would come true some day, buy a old WWII tank I don’t car if it’s a M3 Stuart or a bloody Churchill I JUST WANT TO OWN A WWII TANK (hopefully a sherman because those are one of the most American tanks there is)
Except that's not true. The only tanks a Sherman would see in Europe would be something like the Pz III, II, IV, StuG III/IV, or even Pz I. All of these vehicles are smaller than the M4.
@@tripwire3992 Not even close. Between the Pz I, II, III, IV, and StuG/StuH III, 29,227 vehicles were produced. This far outnumbers the 88 Jagdtigers, 492 King Tigers, and 1,347 Tiger I's. What's more, most units on the Western Front were reservist units, meaning less advanced equipment was sent to those divisions. The Eastern Front received most of the German heavy tanks and larger vehicles (Panther, Tiger 1, Tiger 2, Jagdpanther, etc.).

This is the first time that (and probably the last) I would agree with (OMG! Cant believe I'm typing this) an HOA. Why is this guy not parking it in his driveway? Is it in HIS way? This guys pays $600,000 for this tank, but cant pay a couple hundred a month to store it in a warehouse. He has had a ranch all this time, why could he had not delivered it there? This is not a case of an HOA is suddenly having cars towed from someone's own spot because of a bumper sticker, an American flag in the window, or because the vehicle is a work truck. This guy decided a lane is his private parking area for his toy. If his neighbors across the street blocked the lane a began parking their ATVs and dirt bikes there, he would probably get pissed off. Some commenting here think that this man was some type of folk hero. I humbly submit this thought for your consideration. Maybe, just maybe, this guy might be just a rich a**hole?
Sorry. A knee jerk reaction. My father was an insurance adjuster for several decades. I've seen the bloody aftermaths of really stupid accidents. Children playing on a vehicle in the road while cars go by. To me it is like an unfenced swimming pool. The question is not if there will be an accident, but when. The HOA in this case might not really have cared about the tank. By trying to have it moved and ticketed they sheilded themselves from a lot liability. If a kid falls off of it and gets a scratched (or killed), everybody gets sued. That tank that everybody thought was "cool" suddenly is described as "attractive nuisance that the HOA should have dealt with" by a lawsuit attorney when papers are served. This way the HOA has a defense, "We tried. Even called the police". I do not like HOAs, but there are worse villians. Trial and Divorce attorneys.
Only 75 Shermans were made with diesels so either that thing is ultra rare (I doubt if only 75 were made out of thousands that one would make it out of testing into this situation), or the person who made that comment is clueless.
I live in river oaks off sam calloway on walnut dr., and that's awesome! Thank you for your service, and piss on H.O.A.! It's nice having class in the front of your house, my compliments sir Simper fi
They tried telling me to remove multiple vehicles from my yard I told empty No I'm not a member of your union you can't LEGALLY tell me what I can and can't put on my property. Let's just say the police have harassed me but I'm getting a Vietnam era 6x6 M35A2 and its going to be my daily driver and grocery getter.
